did anyone else ever find it odd how easily zeus offered percy godhood? and how it almost seemed like he secretly wanted percy to accept? well i did, and after thinking long and hard about it…
i don’t think percy understood what turning down godhood really meant
demigods do tasks for the gods because they don’t have to follow any rules. they aren’t controlled by anyone or anything. demigods are a strange hybrid - not god, not human. they are in between the laws of immortal and mortal. they are not supposed to exist. yet they do, which is what makes them so extraordinary.
percy is crazy powerful. of course, there’s the aspect of raw power. he has domain over air (storms/hurricanes), land (earthquakes and volcanic eruptions), and sea (monster waves, tsunamis, floods, basically anything that involves water.) he can control bodily fluids. he has super strength (with one hand, he held up an unconscious annabeth who was being pulled down by both arachne AND the forces of tartarus). he has super speed (he moves faster than bullets in TTC). no matter how badly you hurt him, he automatically heals and regenerates the second he touches water (an ability no other demigod has). he’s an extraordinary swordsman. very skilled in combat and warfare. he’s smart, and thinks of plans quickly. but he also has a great deal of social/poltcial power… i mean, he’s a leader and hero to both the greek and roman camps. if he says “attack,” all demigods, greek or roman, attack. no question. do you have any idea how threatening that is to the olympians? he’s also best friends and has an empathy link with the lord of the wild, which basically means all of nature is by his side too, including all land creatures. he’s also prince of horses, which means pegasi too (both of which are extremely useful in battle). and of course all sea creatures, including the mythical ones like krakens and leviathans. not to mention many of the gods really like him. hermes, hephaestus, athena, aphrodite, and dionysis have all gone out of their way to help him. artemis holds him in high regard, especially since he saved her. apollo literally considers him his friend! and poseidon - his dad, the god who is the biggest threat to zeus - is fiercely protective of him and cares about him a great deal. many minor gods also like him because he demanded them to be given more respect and for their kids to be welcomed at the camps.
percy unknowingly has more power, both physical and social/political, than anyone should ever have. he may have absolutely no idea, but it must scare the living daylights out of zeus. by accepting zeus’s offer to become a god, percy would have submitted himself to the control of zeus. zeus would be his king and ruler. zeus would then have complete control over him.
but percy said no. therefore, percy remains out of zeus’s control.
percy had no idea what he was doing. but thank the gods he made that choice. thank the gods he’s an incredible person. thank the gods percy jackson has no desire for power, because he has more of it than anyone should ever be able to have.
That post about 30 year old coming of age stories?
I’ve been thinking about it all morning. What would the plot points be for that? What makes a 30 year old coming of age story?
Old folks sound off in the comments
A few ideas:
Burying a parent that never encouraged independence
Acknowledging a trauma you’ve spent your life ignoring
Finally opening yourself up to a truly mutual, non-transactional relationship (platonic or romantic)
Leaving a community (religious or otherwise) that has kept you from growing
Obtaining a diagnosis for a health condition (mental or physical) and finally getting treatment and recontextualizing your life.
Student loan forgiveness kicking in, suddenly you can afford to live. That one small change snowballs into something big.
Starting over after the end of The Big Relationship you thought would define your life. Engaging in a new hobby/social group that adds context to how small life felt in that relationship.
You find yourself with a pet you have to care for, which teaches you to care for yourself.
You take a class somewhere that unlocks skills you didn’t know you had.
In limbo between leaving the job that used your degree and finding the job you know you actually want—either your “calling” or something that pays well, is low-stress, and you will be treated well.
You’ve settled the wild and restless needs of your youth, as well as the mistakes you made or opportunities you missed, and you realize the first 30yrs were training wheels. Your real life is just starting.
I was like "I love you" to my partner and they said "I love you" and I was like "Prommy?" And they were like "I pr--" and then they physically recoiled from me and looked at me like
My partner and I were in bed when I saw this, he was about to fall asleep when I showed it to him. He laughed and said he liked the post. I started to laugh and said "Uh oh I've given you a dangerous weapon, you can't use this word." And he said he wouldn't, and I immediately shot back with "Prommy?" I got him. I got him so good. Light laugh about that, then said he was trying to go to bed, so we said goodnight, I said I love you. He said I love you too. We then locked eyes, my lip quivered, and I started laughing into hysterics. Full blown tears, about to throw up kind of laughs. The mere thought of getting him with two attack "Prommys" sent my body into a crazed state. Probably laughed straight for 5 minutes. After I finally calmed myself down he said, "The least you can do is reblog their post" that added another two minutes of laughing like a crazy person. So thank you, have a weird lovely memory now due to this post.
🐝: remember thou art but mortal
Love how the kid accepts death but is so shocked to learn that everybody else also will die
she thought it was a special message just for her
I can’t believe I wasted two hours of my life drawing a joke I’m sure a million others have made and done better.
Atleast its out of my system now.

It shows up as 0 for me.

Happy Birthday Percy Jackson, I wish you were real bc you would have loved kissing the homies on the mouth.
Governor Tim Walz signing into law a bill to give all kids in Minnesota free lunch no matter their income
Oh shit, Tim Walz.
“I know basic gun safety isn’t a threat to my rights. It’s about keeping our kids safe,” Walz said last month about his evolution on the issue. “I had an ‘A’ rating from the NRA. Now I get straight ‘F’s.’ And I sleep just fine.”
He was beloved by the NRA. When Parkland happened, his daughter was 17. She asked him to do more. I guess he doesn't do shit by half because not only reformed gun control, he donated all the money the NRA ever gave him to charity, and now has straight Fs. In 2016 he was a 'top 20 politician for guns' He turned it that fast.
I know this is the website of catholic guilt structures, but the idea of a politician that changes their mind, doesn't pretend it was different before, admits he was wrong, and then gets shit done? I adore that.
I did not expect him, so I have not done my learning yet, this was one of the first things I saw. And Damn.
Movie of all time
