I’ve been thinking about how Adrien is generally not an empathetic person. He’s well mannered and generally nice but I’ve yet to see him share a moment of vulnerability with someone that wasn’t about himself. There were the times he’s given Ladybug pep talks but he never seems legitimately concerned for her emotional well-being, simply smiling after she hugs him instead of showing any interest in why she was feeling the way she was and how he could help her. He literally felt the pressure she’s under every day and didn’t feel any need to change himself to help alleviate it. Of course, a large portion of empathy is learned and he hasn’t had great examples and sometimes people just don’t have the energy to genuinely care and all that but the point remains: Adrien rarely thinks about other people’s feelings. Despite how it sounds, this isn’t a criticism of him, just an observation.

Something else that goes with his lack of empathy could very well be the Umbrella Scene.

Just a friendly reminder to everyone who says he apologized to Marinette during Origins Part 2, there were only three instances of someone saying “sorry” in the transcript for that episode, and none of them came from him. His actual canon line is as follows:

Adrien: Hey. (Marinette still ignores him; he opens his umbrella) I just wanted you to know that I was only trying to take the chewing gum off your seat. I swear. I've never been to school before. I've never had friends. It's all sort of new to me. (He hands her his umbrella, and they share brief eye contact through the exchange, before the umbrella closes over Marinette's head, causing Adrien to laugh, resulting in Marinette smiling and laughing as well and Adrien sighs)

...I’m not seeing an actual apology anywhere in there. He does give an explanation, but ultimately makes it about himself. And without revealing Chloe either, so he’s still more concerned with protecting Chloe than apologizing or making it up to the person he inadvertently helped bully.

It could arguably be a means of manipulation. But it’s certainly not very empathetic. It’s about getting her to understand HIM rather than try to understand HER and HER feelings.

I know there’s way earlier examples but how does anyone walk away from Puppeteer 2 where Adrien’s “prank” brought Marinette nearly to tears and his apology still managed to make it a pity party for himself and not realize this guy just Can Not think about anyone else’s feelings or situations?

Here : this is Dr.Robert D.Hare psychopathy checklist. It is used to define psychopathy and recognize psychopaths. So, if you check at least 3 of these behaviours, a psychologist should diagnose you as a psychopath, in the clinical sense of the word of course.

Now I think 4, 5 and 6 at least are checked for Adrien. Some episodes like Copycat could add the 3rd but there are not that many of them (because there aren't many episodes where Adrien gets screentime ?). Adrien also checks the 9th as other than his day dreams about him and Ladybug, he hasn't shown any goals on a long term. Like, what does he want to become ? What is his dream ? (Thanks wish maker). And there might be the 10th too ...

So ... Yeah. What I'm trying to say is that Adrien is a clinical Psychopath.

On one hand him being a psychopath with no sense of empathy definitely explains his obliviousness.

On the other hand, HE IS the writers' self-insert !! What does it say about them ??

Aro Joy, 1/1 - it’s almost AUTUMN!!!! 🍁🎃🧣 ✨ (and I’m very excited lol, early fall is one of my favourite times of year 😂). Ok but back on topic - I’ve actually had a vision for this specific comic for … a while 😭 Like, half a year ago. It’s been a journey, accepting my arospec identity (and from what I’ve heard talking to y’all, it’s been like this for many of you too), and though I’ve been open about the bumpier parts of the experience, I wanted to also talk about the positives, all the joys of being aro, too 💚💚🐸

As a general disclaimer: The sentiments here aren’t meant to speak for all aros - because some aros want to be in romantic relationships (or be otherwise partnered), and of course this is equally valid and should be respected! And on the same note, allos can be happy with being, or just want to be single, because again - this isn’t something defined by orientation.

But I think for a lot of us, our arospec orientation can be tied to how feel about our lives in relation to partnership … which is that, we’re okay (or happy) being single! For the longest time, I held it against myself that I wasn’t in a relationship, but not because I wanted to be in one - I just thought it was a milestone that would make other people think of me as a ‘real’ adult 😭😭 Realizing I was aro gave me the opportunity to reassess how I viewed myself, and my relationships with other people. I was able to actually let go of that idea of having a “””missing piece”””, and appreciate everyone and everything I have in my life. I sound kinda cheesy saying this, but for the first time, I think I have everything I’ve ever wanted, relationships wise? I’m at peace, and I really appreciate it.

On technical grounds: absolutely. Even if you don’t like fruit, it’s only like 4 smoothies.

On fae trickery grounds: I bet the timing thing is a red herring - it is a suspiciously reasonable amount of fruit, and a suspiciously long time - and I bet the catch is that it would be invalidated if even one other person besides the challenger ate even a single blueberry. So the real difficulty here would be … concealing the fruit and the task from everyone you live with. But the design and nature of the fruit and its platter, it would invite snacking if left unattended. Where could you consume the fruit in safety and peace? Where could anybody? What Eden would be safe?

9/11 is coming up - and with it, a sharp spike of anxiety that always accompanies the anniversary. each year our community deals with attacks, threats, even deaths. each anniversary i don’t leave my house. i don’t go to the masjid.

i know i told people not to comment on this if they weren’t muslim but i will absolutely accept this addition because it’s generally really useful info to know. this happened to me once and someone used a tactic like this and it worked wonderfully!

in my situation, it was a woman who pretended like she knew me when a man was verbally assaulting my friend and i - she approached us like we were old friends or relatives and asked “what took you so long? i’ve been waiting!”

and just like that, i had an out! the guy didn’t follow when she guided us away, and she stayed by my side the entire time until i had gotten to where i needed to go. the situation was de-escalated quickly and peacefully

i know a gut instinct to seeing bigotry or injustice is often confrontation, but it’s not always the safest response and tactics like this are extremely useful!!!

(however - just to note: if the situation looks potentially dangerous or on the verge of escalating to that level, call the police. there is a difference between uncomfortable comments on public transit vs the threat of verbal or physical assault - tactics like these work well in the first situation, but the second should be treated differently and with extreme caution. never hesitate to notify the proper authorities in situations where it looks like things are getting out of hand.)

Especially when the male lead is arguably doing things that are worse and the only one being given a free pass for it all by the narrative. Including 1) LYING and letting his partner take the blame for an incident that was his fault; 2) trying to blackmail his kwami instead of listening to him; 3) refusing to work with his partner at least twice because she rejected him and still refusing to accept that she’s not interested; 4) listening to and believing in an akuma and sentimonster over his own partner at least twice; 5) using his knowledge of his partner’s identity to date her without her knowing; 6) threatening to abandon the city to drown. And yet we’re supposed to be seeing the female character who did none of these things or was at least called out for the things she did wrong as “worse” somehow because the narrative at least frames her poorly for it.

A lot of us have been saying from the start that the problem is the writing and this is a huge part of the reason why.

Here’s What’s Happening In Cuba

This is a basic summary of yesterday’s events. It is important that word of what’s going on gets out and spreads because the Cuban government is tying to silence and isolate Cuba from the rest of the world. I am begging you to read and reblog this.

Yesterday, Cubans took to the streets and started to protest against the government, the Castro regime, and the current president, Miguel Diaz-Canel. Do not be fooled by the word president, Canel was not elected by the people, he was placed into power by people who were already in power. Cuba isn’t a democracy, it’s a dictatorship.

The protests started in San Antonio, and they spread to every province in Cuba. People, all kinds of people, were out there in the streets protesting against the dictatorship all day. They faced off against police officers and the military, these protestors were unarmed. These unarmed protestors were beaten and arrested right there in the street, and shots are heard to have been fired. There are videos of Cuban protestors being shot at by the police, and these are the kind of videos that the government doesn’t want you to see. A child was killed. As of right now, I know of a 13 year old child who was out there protesting, and the police murdered him right there. They don’t care who they have to hurt, they just want Cuba to be silenced. Younger children have probably also died at the hands of the police yesterday, and I wouldn’t know about it. They say that there’s a massacre happening over there right now, but I don’t know the exact number of people who’ve died.

Protestors have thrown rocks at the police, they’ve overturned police cars and dumped garbage cans on top of them. Protestors are out there, filming everything to try and get the word out, outsiders need to see what’s happening. These same people are having their phones ripped out of their hands, these same people are being dragged away by the police and being beaten and arrested right there.

Any Cuban person with any sort of influence, mainly Cuban singers, who have been seen supporting the protests have been arrested in an attempt to have the protests die out.

5 people that I know of where killed by the police in Santiago de Cuba.

Later into the night, the government shut down electricity everywhere in Cuba and most access has been cut off in an attempt to silence them from speaking out about this. As far as I know, the people continued to protest late into the night anyways.

These protests are important because Cubans have spent 62 years without nothing. There’s barely any food on the table, not enough to feed one person, much less a family. The people have been starving for 62 years. There aren’t any clothes, not nice clothes anyways, most people have been using the same clothes over and over for the last however many years because they simply can not afford to buy new clothes. There’s barely any electricity or internet access everywhere, and those who do have those privileges are now being silenced by the government. There isn’t even any medicine! So many Cubans have died because of  medical incompetency, they died because there’s no medicine. My aunt’s mother died this year because there was no medicine, because Cuban doctors didn’t have the proper tools to actually help her. Covid has been mismanaged terribly in Cuba, 6,000 cases daily, and those are the numbers that we know of, who knows how many it actually is. My aunt died in the hospital because of this. And nobody in Cuba knows much of the outside world because Cubans don’t have access to the outside world. The government controls everything in Cuba, from the press to the internet service. The only things that you can see there are the things that government wants you to see. You have no freedom of speech there. If you so much as dare to say anything bad about that government, you will be thrown in jail. They torture you in that jail. You have no freedom in Cuba. These protests are important because Cubans deserve justice. These protests are important because Cubans deserve freedom.

The world needs to see what’s happening in Cuba, do not turn a blind eye. You want to help us? This is how. Stay informed and spread information, the government wants to silence Cuba, the government doesn’t want the world to see this, so we will make the world see this. Please, stay informed.

There are the hashtags #soscuba and #cubapalacalle that you can use to spread information and stay informed. On my blog, you can use the hashtags #patria y vida and #cuba protests to see more of my posts on this. Please, spread the word in whatever way you can and do let Cuba be silenced.

I actually agree with you with how Miraculous Ladybug is heavily flawed. For one person to make a mistake and face consequences, but another person makes the same mistake and faces no consequences is messed up. This is why and I'm not trying to bash anyone is why quality in the writing has decreased. All characters need to learn from mistakes to grow. At this point I preferer all the characters get called out for their actions, not just solely on one person

Agreed, especially when other characters do substantially worse for more selfish reasons than the one character they keep using and forcing to be in the “wrong”.

Adrien lied to Theo about him and Ladybug dating, causing an akuma that was entirely his fault, and blamed it on Ladybug not showing up at the statue unveiling instead of at any point admitting what he did.

Adrien twice refused to work with Ladybug because she rejected him.

Chloe was actively bullying people. Willfully and happily. Constantly.

Chloe sabotaged Uncle Cheng’s soup to make him lose a contest out of spite and caused the other judges to get food poisoning. No, I don’t care that they didn’t actually suffer for it, Chloe didn’t know or care what the effects would be except that the guy would lose. He’s a famous chef! Losing this contest could have irrevocably damaged his reputation and cost him his livelihood.

Chloe stole Marinette’s design and tried to frame her as the thief, which could have ruined her dreams of being a fashion designer and lost her any credibility which you KNOW Chloe would continue to use against her at any opportunity had her plan succeeded.

Chloe tried to crash a train. SHE TRIED TO CRASH A TRAIN! No, it doesn’t matter that she was doing it to get her mom’s attention, PEOPLE COULD HAVE DIED! People, including Marinette and her family could have DIED if even one thing had gone wrong, and CHLOE DIDN’T CARE! It was NOT something that should have been hand waved to be as simple as a “mistake” and was NOT in any way comparable to Ladybug losing a Miraculous.

Alya had a major focus on revealing Ladybug’s identity regardless with no consideration of the problems that would cause. Furthermore, even though she moved on from that after becoming Rena Rouge, she still revealed sensitive information that only ultimately worked to Hawk Moth’s benefit.

Alya has also had an annoying tendency to push for Adrientte even when one of the two involved in that equation is oblivious and the other has specifically told her no. She wants her friend to be happy, which is admirable, but not when it involves disrespecting her wishes and causing her more stress in the process.

And then there’s Lila. Just...everything to do with Lila and her strange power to warp reality and intelligence as she needs it.

And yet they learn no lesson, receive little to no consequence, and the resulting blow of whatever callout they do get is softened by the end of the episode while Marinette’s torment is usually played up and usually done so for laughs.

I’m not saying Marinette doesn’t deserve callout, but she warrants callout for the things she actually DOES instead of making other people’s problems her responsibility, making up disjointed reasons to have her be wrong, or struggling to manage with a heavy burden the best she can with little support. And more importantly she shouldn’t be the ONLY ONE learning a “lesson” every episode. Especially if it’s one they already forced on her before.

When they’re doing THAT, they’re basically making her the Atlas to carry the entire show. And even if the show is about her, she is not and CANNOT be the only one in it.

I totally agree with you and I often wonder if miraculous is a good example for children. IS SHOWING Marinette self-sacrificial to that extent, or worse, some enablers like BUSTIER, while PRESENTING THEM AS GOOD CHARACTERS WITHOUT FLAWS, AND EXAMPLES FOR EVERYONE, BENEFICIAL ? (Honestly Marinette is far from being the worst, but she's the main protagonists and hero so she's the one children will refer to the most).

I personally read salt fics just because I didn't see those flaws at first and that SCARES ME. I'm scared when I think that i thought Bustier was a good teacher with a good pedagogy. I'm sacred to imagine that other people may think so as well.

And that's why I recommend to EVERYONE to give a shot to salt fics. Because even if you don't have to here the characters, or to agree to everything to writers says, there are flaws in EVERY developed CHARACTER and some are huge, when not DANGEROUS. (Bustier IS dangerous to all her students !! She blames the victims and bullies in the class have yet to face ANY consequences => ENABLER).

And i think it is important for everyone to notice these flaws that canon definitely tries to hide under values or Marinette's forgiveness. Either way, those flaws are never mentioned.

Being lesbian or gay is defined by the gender you assign yourself with, not the one given you at birth.

So if you change your gender from a woman to a man, and you like women, then anyone straight. If you like man, your gay.

Of course, you can also be bi, pan or anything else, but this is just for the simple cases that are common(at least i think so? I dunno, I'm not trans(i think), so I'm not sure)

As a former zookeeper we would hear this a lot. “If you don’t study hard you’ll end up cleaning poop for a living.” It’s the one time we’re allowed to go off on the visitors. I once heard my boss rant for five minutes at a lady, in front of her kids, about how he had a Master’s degree, how people literally worked there for free, and how dare she judge people without bothering to know anything about them. Something in me was just so annoyed by this 16yr old who was learning to work right next to me and somehow felt above us? Fuck that shit. Amazon Unveils a [Horrifying] Fanfic Publishing Platform

Today, Amazon announced the imminent launch of its newest endeavor, Kindle Worlds, a publishing platform for fanfiction. When I read the announcement, I was horrified, then angry, then sad. I want to take a moment to explain why this is such a tragedy.
