Cai my son. I’ve been so hyped for Fortune’s Weave ever since the first trailer dropped, and it’s lasted pretty steady up to this point. Then they started announcing the EN VAs.
Aaaaaa the Lords sound so good!! And I’m really excited to see who’s voicing the retainers too! FE has always had good English dubs, so I’m really happy to see them carrying on the tradition.
Anyway first time drawing Cai! I tried to go for a mix of canon and my own style, and kept it pretty loose without worrying too much. I probably did his hair wrong though, sorry about that. But yeah, he’s fun to draw. Especially his hair, I’ll get better with it.
Nintendo is driving my silly by not only drip announcing the voice actors for the new Fire Emblem game, but also region locking them to the USA. Would’ve loved to open my app and get jumpscared by cool names but alas. Guess I’ll be jumpscared by browsing xcancel on incognito mode
As part of Fanlore’s Fandom in Color month, we’re holding two editing chats over on our Discord on Sun July 19 at 4am UTC (What time is that for me?) and Sun July 19 at 3pm UTC (What time is that for me?}.
What is an “editing chat”? It’s a real-time chat where everyone works on doing some Fanlore editing, usually themed around pages of a certain topic. There’s no requirement to have edited Fanlore before, as we’re happy to show you the ropes!
The focus will be creating and adding to pages related to fans and fandom of color – characters, communities, events, activism, meta essays, and much more. If you’re passionate about expanding Fanlore’s coverage of this extremely under-served area – so are we! We’d love you to come along and take part. All participants will also earn a fun badge to post to their Fanlore user page!
Use this link to join our Discord server, and we’ll join you there for the chat!

We value every contribution to our shared fandom history. If you’re new to editing Fanlore or wikis in general, visit our New Visitor Portal to get started or ask us questions here!
Talking about the Oracle Deck here for Murdle and some implications, if you don’t want to be spoiled then avoid it. Also CW for mentions of racist stereotypes accidentally arising out of fanfiction
So I’m guessing it’s been soft confirmed that there are no set “canon” designs for any of the Murdle characters? Because Oracle Deck!Irratino looks pretty different to Puzzle!Irratino. I think I prefer the Puzzle design, that’s what I based my headcanoned design on, but the Oracle Deck look isn’t bad! I like the extra accessories.
But if this isn’t a soft confirmation, it does mean I have to update my Logico design quite a bit. Especially with the facial hair. I did not think he’d pull it off as well as he does ngl, I do like it. Also the pencils on the hat is something I am incorporating into my HC design, no matter what. That’s genius. Also I do like Logico being darker skinned in this, I think that’s nice.
The only thing I don’t like is that if this not a soft confirmation that there is no “canon” design then this comes with unfortunate implications for my fanfic (for context: it features child abuse and abandonment, and I (a white person) don’t feel very confortable writing that subject matter about a PoC character because of racist stereotypes). It’s not cancelled, but if this isn’t soft confirmation that it’s cool to just carry on with my own designs and go forth with it, then it might take longer to write.
Also I was gonna end it there but I checked on the Barnes and Noble page and there’s a very small render of Dame Obsidian and I’m pretty sure she also has darker skinned than her Puzzle and Website counterparts. Again, I think that’s soft confirmation, but at least this time she’s moving closer to my headcanoned design. I love the red on her, to boot. Hat less so, I don’t think Dame Obsidian needs a hat.
Hi. I’ve got another fanfic out! Letterinth/Bordergrams crossover! Major spoilers for Bordergrams 1, all cases, and AQftQ, up to Case 65. And July 15th’s Letterinth, for good measure.
I don’t think I’ve ever played a book this quickly. Anyway, final thoughts on Bordergrams: A Quest for the Queen!
Spoilers for: Bordergrams (both the original and A Quest for the Queen); Murdle Volume 1; Fire Emblem (Sacred Stones, Warriors, Heroes (specifically Book 6)).
So, yeah. Shit it was good. I know Lily had thoughts on it being a post-apocalyptic hellscape kinda setting, and I thought it was a good theory. Turns out she’s right and I couldn’t be happier. Nature retaking Earth after the end is one of my favourite fantasy tropes, and I am so happy it’s happening here.
Minor gripes before we continue: the puzzle section isn’t too bad, but man there was a lot of errors in my book. Some sections had completely different answers, and there were a few misspellings (notable Lllama) so at points the book wasn’t the clearest. Now, this could be because of adaptations (I am British, not American) but even then it never really went away. I’m sure they will make an errata at some point or issue reprints, but still a sore point.
Anyway, back onto the positives: I love Sir Render’s character development! Starting off as miserable and self-centered, and ending with him being a hero for the knights and actually getting the girl! Bro is a foil for B and I love it! He starts like B ended (despondent, miserable, angry at the world) and ended like B started (hopeful, in love, ready to make the world a better place). I’m very happy they didn’t just repeat B’s storyline and kept Render a straight protagonist, albeit a flawed one.
As for Leigh, ooh she was good. Love me a Queen kicking ass, and the hint close to the end utilising her name being phonetically similar to “RipLEY”… ouch. But so good. Can’t believe I’m shipping something fully heterosexual in a G. T. Karber book lol (shoutout to the straights, you are cool, I just expect more gayness). Also, the title being “A Quest for the Queen” as in both a quest given by a queen and a quest a queen is taking is genius, believing it to the the former at the start and then slowly becoming both as it moves on. I love double names like that!
Speaking of names, I liked all the pun names in general, I think Sir Chistory got the biggest smile out of me (Search History), and I liked him being Charge’s boyfriend. You can’t catch me out with that “He was more than my comrade” talk, I’ve read Murdle Volume 1(“he was more than a friend!” “For publication reasons it’s better he stays a friend”). Also as a neat parallel, B also loses one of their followers close to the end of Bordergrams, but the way it’s addressed is completely different. Chistory is mourned by Render and Charge, whereas the unnamed fallen friend is unnamed and brushed aside. Really shows the difference between B and Render.
Speaking of B… B is Death! I called B being the “Praise Be Their Name” as soon as it was repeated more than once. Also B is just referred to as they/them in this book! Shoutout to evil nonbinary people! Anyway, I love how this book integrates the original Bordergrams Lore in with the weapons being Ripley’s tools for B (notable the Light being the Spark for me) and the Atlas being a tablet. Also Ty being the oracle is very :eyes: as the resident Letterinth fan. I’ve got my own theories on that and may write a fanfic about it, you’ll just have to wait and see…
I thought Friar Pan was alright, but his plot essentially being “Out of the frying pan into the fire” was really cool. His name being both a pun and foreshadowing his possession. Also man, being possessed by B/Death must suck. He never got out of his mindset.
Finally, I just wanted to give my two cents on the whole “Render is B’s descendent” thing because I do not think B would have kids. I fully believe it’s a case of Render finding B’s Compass and becoming linked to them that way. Less a descendant and more a spiritual successor, but it’s easier and more knightly to say descendant. I’m a Fire Emblem fan, I’ve worked with descendants not being true descendants (hi Anri and Marth).
Also as an FE fan I am very much used to the possessed character who is close to a protagonist having to die to be redeemed, so maybe that’s why I’m not as choked up as others are about Pan’s death (off the top of my head: Hi Lyon. Hi Darios. Hi Bruno).
But yeah it’s very good. Recommend.
P.S. If someone can explain the joke behind both Ignomia and Lady Devanna I’d appreciate it!!
I’m about 1/8th of the way through the new Bordergrams book, and here are my thoughts so far:
It’s a bit more difficult than the previous book. There were some clues that really stumped me. I thought there being a leftover word would be more of a struggle, and while it very much has the chance to soon, it’s not too bad for now.
There are more pun names! There’s Sir Vivor (survivor) and Sir Mount (surmount, but also serves as a mount for Render) in the main plot and Sir Prize at the start. I wonder if Prize will get a main story cameo, but considering his “killed by a bear” status, I’m guessing lot.
There’s new terms! The territories are now parcels, the shadow states are shadow lands, and a disputed territory is now a pivotal parcel. And given the plot so far, it doesn’t look like we’re conquering anything so we’re not forcing apart or together lands, just organising things to find our way through.
I like the journal entries interspersed in the main story itself, and the lead to finding the solutions having their own little twists. I think that adds to the charm of the book.
My only gripe so far is that my book came with an error! In Quest 5, one of the terms was “Monkey” when it was posted in the answer as “Futz”. Which is annoying, but I bet they’ll include an errata somewhere on the Bordergrams site (like with Murdle) and fix it on reprint. Ah well, it doesn’t seem like the book is littered with errors like this, and it was just a one-off.
Flavor Foley released a new teaser image. I'm bored again, so poll time. Who do we reckon it is?
Who is this?
Chis-A
Defoko
flower
IA
Meika Mikoto (or perhaps Hime)
Milk
Nekomura Iroha
Topaz
Zundamon
One of the Cryptonloids but with a really confusing silhouette
One of the SynthV letter vocals
(An option not listed here)
Voting ended onJul 20
There's a temptation because of the exact "ear" that's hidden in this silhouette for me to say Nekotuka R but Flavor Foley has never used VoiceVox as far as I know so it feels unlikely for them to start with a voicebank that obscure (plus the hair doesn't really fit).
Hey to all my fellow Murdle fans! There’s tons of cool colours still out there to name your OC after, and even some that work as first names too! Wikipedia has a whole list of ‘em! Knock yourselves out OC makers!
This note was in part addressed to me, who after failing to come up with a colour for my OC, gave her an actual surname that featured a colour instead.
Oh hey, I decided to participate in the Hatsune Miku in your culture challenge art thing.
So here’s Miku as both a British high schooler and in more traditional Anglo Saxon attire (also flushed cheeks, a lot of British people have flushed cheeks lol)
We won her in the football and that’s all that matters in the football world today
Forcontext: Brazil and Japan fought each other in the World Cup and since both have relevance to Miku, it was joked that the winner would adopt Miku. Brazil won. Then they were beaten by Norway. Then they were beaten by England.
This might be a hot take but ah well: I think if the romance between Logico and Irratino didn’t exist, I probably wouldn’t ship them, or at least not nearly as hard as I do now. Not because I dislike the ship, but because I would instead headcanon Logico as aroace (likely because I am also aroace and I do see myself quite a bit in him so that makes sense on my front).
TBH I do still somewhat headcanon Logico as arospec (I think he’s greyromantic?) but he’s definitely not ace anymore in my mind.
The good thing about headcanoning B as nonbinary is that they can have both doomed yaoi (Ty/B) and doomed yuri (Ripley/B) without needing to sacrifice one
reason:
Me submitting this is inspired mainly by his depiction in Hades 2 (but I'm still submitting the base character since the observations that telling makes about his character can also apply to the original) where they portray him as being autoromantic, where he seems genuinely happy and committed in his relationship. And it shows that his love for himself isn't the problem it was how he treated his ex.
So, here’s a fun tip for those looking to have a more pronounced rolling r in SynthV (idk if this works for SV2, I’m just talking based on my experience since 1)
- set the note with the rolling r to Spanish. The rolling r phoneme is labelled as “rr”
- the note before the r roll, you’re gonna want to insert an extra “r” phoneme. I’ve only tried this with Japanese, but it works really well.
You know, if I had a nickel for every time I wrote a fic about characters wanting to steal the moon and using it as an excuse to ship them and be a bit cute, I’d have two nickels.
Anyway, I wrote a quick Bordergrams fanfic. Enjoy!
