we really need to internalize "my own experiences can lead to blindspots that prevent me from recognizing something is racist even if i never intended to hurt people"
getting called racist is not a condemnation. and no one is asking white people adopt a catholic's guilt-driven mindset. its just a guideline to help u not hurt people of color.
I do think some online activism spaces actually are asking everyone to adopt the catholic-guilt mindset (I've written about this before), and the more I learn and grow as a person, the more I think that outlook is actually detrimental to confronting and correcting bigotry. We are all biased. If you're not a person of colour, you benefit from and sometimes perpetuate racism. If you're not disabled, you sometimes perpetuate ableism. If you're not trans, you sometimes perpetuate transphobia. If you're not Jewish, you sometimes perpetuate antisemitism. If you're not Muslim, you sometimes perpetuate islamophobia. If you're not gay, you sometimes perpetuate homophobia. And so on, and so and so.
We all fuck up. We all misread things. We all engage in bad faith. And we're all biased, and we all live in a world that is fundamentally shaped by racism, which means we all do racist things—even people of colour themselves, whether it's one racial group being biased towards another, or something that's been internalised. So, like OP said, I think we need to realise doing/saying racist things isn't an individual failing so much as it is almost a factory setting that we need to constantly debug. It's the refusal to do that work/depogramming that is the problem.
Right now at this very moment you probably hold a belief that will be considered bigoted 5-20 years in the future. And I don’t mean a belief that you know is wrong that just pops into your head that you try to dismiss—I mean you believe something that you think is morally neutral or that is even positive, but that at some point in the future you will be told to unlearn. It’s useful to keep that in mind when you’re striving for social justice in the here and now.

honnêtement ce post est probablement vraiment drôle en anglais mais je l'ai automatiquement lu en français et ça fait aucune fucking différence
Some of you have never debugged 10k lines of code you didn’t write and it shows
you’re not crying, for starters
You’ve heard of the Roaring 20s........
now get ready for the Screaming 20s - coming to a decade near you in 2020
is it too early or can we start screaming now
There’s actually a fair deal of overlap between cultural decades. So not only is it acceptable to start screaming now, we can keep screaming up to the mid 30′s.
I remember when this post was funny
post is still funny only it’s your therapist asking you how you feel and you’re doing That Laugh you know the one
Today, an innocent man was fired because he was being abused and, according to how this f*cked up world is, men can’t be victims of domestic violence if their abusers are females. This is a shame. But the corrupted system can never silence us.
Shame on Warner Bros. Shame on the Sun and shame on women who think they can abuse their partners and get away with it only because they have vaginas.
Johnny Depp walked into the court with dozens of solid evidences proving his innocence but still lost the case because “he’s a man, a man can’t be a victim of abuse” even though his abuser has confessed on tape she did abuse him.
They cannot silence us. The bigger the battle, the greater the victory. This is not the end.
We are stronger than they think we are and we will not give up fighting for justice
Johnny Depp is innocent. He’s a victim, a survivor and a fighter who is fighting not only for himself but also for all the men and women who are victims of abuse.
He is not fighting this alone.
He will never walk alone.
We are here for him.
Dear men who have been through domestic violence, please don’t let this discourage you from speaking up or coming forward. I believe you and I stand with you.
Abuse has no gender. Women can be abusers and men can be victims.
Justice for Johnny Depp
Justice for all the victims of abuse
So, boycotting anything that has AH and also fantastic beasts, does anyone like that idea
Sounds good to me

Okay, hear me out:

Brought America to the brink of nuclear war after tensions had long subsided, removed safety regulations, sent federal troops to brutalize protesters, crashed the stock market,
the fact that biden cant landslide an impeached president responsible for a massive lethal disease outbreak shows how fucking pathetic he really is
Biden has over 70 million votes, which is the most of any Presidential candidate in history. He's leading Trump by 4 million votes.
He came very close to flipping Texas, Georgia, and North Carolina.
The take is that 1) the electoral college is fucked up and 2) white supremacy and hate are extremely strong motivators for this country's right wing, not "Biden is pathetic," you fucking dimwit
How are y’all going to spend months talking about voter suppression, watch the Republicans do it using the dirtiest tricks they can come up with, and then fully ignore it and pretend like these votes are an accurate representation.
The fact is that Biden pulled more votes than any presidential candidate in history, and would have pulled even more if everyone who was eligible had been allowed to vote/everyone’s votes had been counted.
This election is a massive indictment of the Republican Party who couldn’t win it despite their best and most base efforts at voter suppression.
don’t forget biden did actually manage to flip georgia in the end :)
Everyone say it with me: THANK YOU BLACK VOTERS AND ORGANIZERS
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
THANK YOU
