i suspect the reason a lot of young people are confused about black and white photos from the 70s is because they've never used film, or it stopped being a thing when they were like ten. but i've developed film. and black and white film is hard but full colour film is stupidly difficult. i've developed black and white film in a home darkroom with a friend but full colour you have to get someone else to do it. also it's more expensive.

yeah for sure and queer ppl didnt necessarily feel safe or comfortable getting their photos professionally developed if it could out you so a lot of early pride photos are b&w. or they were for newspapers and newsletters made by not super wealthy gay people who couldnt shell out the money for full color either way
