being told you’d cruise the seas for american gold you’d fire no guns, shed no tears, now you’re a broken man on a halifax pier might not be a universal experience, but like neither is the club. so a little perspective might be nice
!!! the skeletons aren't fully mineralized yet !!!! 🎉 vet thinks we can keep her spay appointment next week! getting supplies just in CASE she goes before then to be prepared, but glad to be wrong about how close she was to whelping, lol. yaaay. the vet DID say she can see six or seven on xray So Far 😱 but we think we can safely spay next week.
the vet and techs were all really shocked by how sweet and stable she is and one was even like "she kind of acts like a service dog?" which I took to mean she was observing the same stuff that I was when I was thinking yesterday that she seems like she has received some positive reinforcement training. she's a very mysterious dog. she needed to take her Emotional Support Cow Ear with her to the x-ray, but she wasn't guard-y about it at all when the techs picked it up to give back to her if she dropped it etc.
so ummm... who wants the world's Sweetest Baby Pitbull? 😂 she should be ready for a new home once healed from her spay, if no one claims her. I'd keep her if it was at all practical, she's the world's sweetest lovingest doggie.
Dog is in northeast Georgia (Habersham county) but we can probably meet halfway somewhere. Hit me up if you're interested in her and I can answer questions! she turned up just two days ago so I'll know more about her after she's been spayed and recovered a bit but it doesn't hurt to start putting feelers out now.
Anyway, here's a helpful diagram. When I was hit on the temple this was one of the harder things I had to reteach myself. Don't be shamed into not asking questions, and it's alright if it takes you a while to figure it out. Don't let someone make you feel bad for learning new things, or relearning old ones.
Sometimes, unfortunately, you have to teach yourself. YouTube is a valid option.
cut content. i am so sorry i had to take it out i ran into some issues. but i promise it will make a return someday. i promise i'll make something someday where you can eat the orbs
women should lift weights because it prevents osteoporosis in old age and makes you a more capable person in everyday life please shut up about butts and waists and hourglasses i'm going to fucking kill
genuine question from someone who would rather chew their arm off than go to a public gym, and also doesnt have a lot of money: how do you safely get into strength training? are there youtube channels, apps (android), etc anyone recommends that makes it approachable and don't lean into diet culture / body shaming?
also the biggest thing that keeps me from working out is that I already have joint and spinal issues and moving the wrong way can fuck up a knee or a shoulder or my spine for days. I really don't want to injure myself, and have unwittingly done so before. resources that are extremely clear on exactly how to move and offer gentler / alternative ways to move for people with limited range are vital.
Okay, so this may not technically be strength training, but muscles are dumber than bricks and cannot tell the difference between your own bodyweight and actual weights.
So, may I recommend:
Hey everyone! My name is Hampton and my brand is Hybrid Calisthenics. You can find me by that name pretty much everywhere on social media.
He runs a YouTube channel where he goes over how to work your way up to more complex exercises (for instance, his pull-ups videos start with using a door jamb and moving your weight back and forth) so it's good for easing yourself into things.
You also don't have to fork out for expensive weights and such if you don't want to/can't. Substitute with stuff you either already have at home or can get from the supermarket and build up the weight you can exercise with. 500 gram cans of butter beans then 750 gram bottles of pasta sauce. 1 litre drink bottle then your 1.5 litre milk bottle. 3 litre bulk-buy bottle of laundry detergent. Etc. One of my dogs weighs 13 kilos and I pick her up on the regular (to her delight). One weighs 16 kg and I pick him up too (to his consternation and mild disapproval). You don't have to fit out some fancy home gym before you can start strength training.
I second Hybrid Calisthenics, that's the program I use. It's run by one guy who's taken it upon himself to make exercising more accessible and it's completely free! Each exercise has different variations based on your ability and each variation is further divided into different levels of difficulty so you can work up to where you want to be. If you can't do a single push up for example then this program will help you work up to the point where you can, and if you're a master of push ups then there are more advanced body weight exercises you can tackle so you can keep moving forward in your training without stagnating. The routine offers a full body workout with absolutely no equipment required for the beginning levels. The only reason you would need to buy anything is if you want to work up to a full pull up, at which point you would need actual pull up rings
Here's his actual website which I feel is easier to navigate than the YouTube channel on its own and organizes things in a way that's easy to understand. He explains everything you need to know about the routine and each individual exercise has both a text description and a video tutorial
“oh no we need to practice for our fake dating” is the funniest trope to me cause like. there are so many people who force themselves into a shitty relationship they hate just because of amatonormatiivity that it’s an ingrained part of popular culture to joke about hating your partner.
which is to say, oh my god you dont need to hold hands and go on fake dates, you don’t even need to agree on a single detail of your cover story beforehand. you can literally stand 6 feet apart at all times and look profoundly uncomfortable and all anyone will think is “yikes™. not my problem”
actually people should address this in fanfic more because “i know we could half-ass it, but i would never fake mistreat my fake husband, how dare you” is absolutely delightful
“Look, my only goal here is for our pretend relationship to be demonstrably healthier than Aunt Rita and Uncle Carl’s fifteen year, three child marriage - which means the bar is so low we probably can’t fuck this up”
Wanna try voice acting but you're scared to? Cool! So are we! So we're making an audiobook about cats killing each other so we're not scared anymore! Wanna join?
Long story short: a friend and I are going to get over our fear of putting ourselves out there by narrating and voice acting a Warriors field guide, and we're looking to see if anyone wants to join us! This is not a casting call, just a check to see if others would be interested in joining. We plan on making a Code of the Clans audiobook regardless of if anyone else is brought on.
The main idea of this project is to create a space for aspiring VAs to dip their toes into voice acting purely for fun (and possibly to pursue something they want even if it makes them anxious). No voice acting experience or knowledge of the Warriors series would be needed! Purely a hobbyist fan project so it would be unpaid.
As you can tell by my gimmick account, I've always been fascinated by voice acting. It was something I always wanted to try myself, but something that always intimidated me. I didn't have experience or training, I didn't even know if my voice was pleasant to listen to. Every time I even toyed with the idea of being in a project, I worried about what people would think of me.
And you know what? I'm sick of being scared!! People should make things because they want to and because it sounds fun!! So I decided, fuck it, I'm just gonna do it and start a voice acting project.
Then I thought, "Hey, if I'm scared but want to do it, there's probably a bunch of people who are scared and want to do it". So this is my invitation for others to do it scared with someone who is also scared. Let's be scared together!
"Why 'Code of the Clans'?" Is probably not the first question you have but it is important to answer. CotC is a collection of short stories, almost all of which feature one-off characters who only have a few lines and are never heard from again. And there are tons of characters throughout these stories! This way, no one VA has to be committed to any role for very long and they can play as few or as many characters as they'd want. Since these characters have such short screen time, there isn't really a precedent for how they should sound, so VAs can play around as much as they'd like and don't have to worry about accents or anything like that! And I don't expect this project to get big by any capacity, so this way there should be room for everyone who wants to join.
If there is enough interest from other VAs, I'll make a casting call and go from there! If not, then we'll continue as a two-man show.
Thank you for reading this far, it means a lot! :]
Younger people, one thing I want you to understand about Millenials is that, overall, our parents taught their daughters to aim for careers and employment, but they didn't teach their sons to keep house. This causes a whole lot of Situations.
