also I don't think parents "these days" are uniquely terrible, I just think neglect is showing up in new ways as technology progresses. today's ipad kid would've been wandering around in a ditch alone all day and night before. parents not wanting to have to deal with children is not a new phenomenon.
mmm. I remember when my son was three or four years old, and I suddenly realized, hey - he has had NO serious injuries! When I was that age I had had multiple major injuries, been to the er twice, tons of scars. My parents joked repeatedly that they'd have to send me to school, when I got old enough, as a "bag of pieces." And we all laughed - funny, right?
And it hit me like a BRICK that I was taking careful care of this little one every day so he didn't get hurt - but! my own memory was of being alone, unsupervised, a ridiculous amount of time. Outside on the farm and alone as a toddler, or literally being looked after by a farm dog.
Memory being fickle, I checked with one of my aunts who I was close to as a child. "Was I left alone, like, a LOT?" I asked her. Her friendly face got serious, and she just nodded. "You raised yourself," she told me, "Then you raised your brother."
That was the 70s. So, yeah. Hard agree, op.

not even joking this is one of the worst possible changes that i could've reasonably conceived of to happen to video games.
having thought about it this is a generationally anti-consumer announcement that will have a profoundly detrimental impact on consumers and retail markets. this will price out new consumers even more than a $600 PS5 and $80 games will. this will make games less accessible and more nickel-and-dimed. this will make games impossible to share irl without giving your console up, and will stop institutions like libraries from being able to loan copies of modern games. and most importantly, it will be for a minimal profit, as most of the sales in video games are already digital.
this is such a staggeringly catastrophic piece of news that i'm shocked it wasn't said by nintendo. congrats to sony for one-upping them in anti-consumer practices.
"what if someone regrets transitioning" if you are 18 or over in free country usa you can walk into any tattoo parlor and ask for a tattoo that will be on your body forever and ever and ever and they will give it to you with the understanding that if you dont like the result or you regret it later that's your fucking problem and not theirs
i feel like it's absolutely crucial in the social justice world to take "he a little confused but he got the spirit" and similar sentiments/situations as a Win. intent is so much more important than saying it right the first time! if someone is approaching with scuffed language and incorrect terms but they're visibly being as polite as they know how, that person is a friend and should be treated better than what their words might invite in someone else's mouth.
someone who's confused but who's got the spirit has the best thing, which is respect. the other stuff is secondary. I'd take someone who's messing up but doing their best to treat me respectfully any day over someone who's using the right words to do me wrong.
this has been my worst nightmare for years this is gta6’s fault omg someone DO SOMETHING
had to move recently from a house i thought i'd be living in long term, and i had painted a mural of clouds on my ceiling and one of my walls that i'm really going to miss, especially now that i've learned it's going to be painted over completely with pure white in an attempt to make the house more "sellable" by the owner. so here's my photos of it taken for posterity:
(the blinds are fucked up because of my cat, she loves window time more than any other activity)

The idea of Mario and Peach having any kind of relationship beyond the occasional kiss on the nose and "mama mia" is like viscerally incomprehensible to me
Not like in a prude way I just can't conceive of Mario experiencing... urges. He's a character outside the scope of that. I'm not saying he's asexual either cause positioning him on the allo/ace spectrum implies that it's a dimension of his character that at least exists, that he has at some point noticed it. I think he just jumps.
Luigi probably fucks though.
#op interrogate yourself about why you think this right fucking now
So unlike Mario, who continues to be essentially a void with no internality, I actually act with thoughts and intent and already did do that when writing this post.
Mario is a mascot of one of the most sanitized corporate brands in existence. He differs from real, full-fledged ace people in that his sexlessness is not queer, not transgressive in any sense of the word, just a void left by his position as a player character. He has no queer identity because he has no identity beyond the fact that it's-a-him, Mario.
Ok but why is Luigi different
displays internality by being capable of fear. to fear is to have something to lose. and what does he stand to lose? fucking.
Similarly, I don’t know if Peach could comprehend the concept of sex. There is no light beyond that blank stare. She doesn’t not understand anything besides baking and being a princess
Daisy fucks nasty
Peach lives a life that is almost entirely defined by her position as an object of other people's desire, wherein she is robbed of autonomy by Bowser and expected to reward Mario with signs of affection. I think if anyone in Mario has complex thoughts about sexuality to work through with a therapist, it's Peach.
What I'm hearing is Daisy needs to take Peach to a strip club
It's crucial to help her escape from comphet
I really like emo music in concept because there's a lot of meaning to just up-front expressing one's deep, painful emotions; I just wish fewer people's deep emotions were about just breaking up with someone
musician: I FEEL LIKE EVERYTHING ABOUT ME IS WRONG, I HAVE TO CUT MYSELF OPEN TO FEEL ANYTHING
me: this is personal and powerful
musician: BECAUSE SHE LEFT ME
me: shut up
