so about the “isn’t she lovely” sequence, if there wasn’t such mistreatment of black characters and black fans, do you think it would still be appropriate for tadc to reinterpret the song’s meaning?

No.

The concept of trying to reinterpret the song's meaning is exactly what I have an issue with.

"Isn't She Lovely" is a Black song, made by a Black man for his Black daughter. It is a song about Black joy, about Black fatherhood and beautiful Black baby girls. It is about Black people. It is for Black people.

Yet again, the issue is not with gender, but it is about race. To take that song out of its original context and rehash it into something whiter is what I take the most offense to, it's completely disrespectful and it doesn't even pay homage to the original culture. It's a form of whitewashing that is incredibly sinister, because it often follows along the logic of "wanting everything to be for everybody".

But you can't possibly partake in other cultures if you do not understand those cultures first, if you don't take the time to listen and be generous. To them, the song is just a song. Like most facets of the show, they take these brilliant works and strip them down to scraps, then try to spin that into something brilliant by telling people to look at the "abstract" and what isn't there. Then people go and theorize and completely overwrite the original intention, they erase the meaning, and it's very painful to witness.

The mistreatment of Black people both in and outside of the show is WHY they used the song in the first place, certainly part of it. If they had respect for Black people then this wouldn't even be a conversation.

It turns out that Goose, as a then-26 year old, interacted with a 17-18 year old through the latter's sexual fan art.

Evan after this, though, they continued to interact through sexual jokes and references. The following tweet, a couple of months after Adam turned 18, the two referenced their first meeting, and Goose said that the Elaine orgasm fanart was in a "special folder" of hers.

Ironically, Goose had a single moment of realization that Adam was too young to see her NSFW account... only to joke about him sexually AGAIN a couple of months later.

Yet again. Adam was 18 and Goose was in her mid/late 20s.

Words cannot describe how disgusted I am. It's no wonder she didn't give a shit about grooming, she did it herself. Even worse, she still interacts with him as recently as this March despite having never addressed what she did to him.

Like you will waste your breath spending writing entire essays about how we should be nicer to indie creators instead of like spending a single second listening to why theyre actually being criticized. and im sorry for triple dipping but I feel like this deserves its own post. In a lot of indie cartoon spaces, theres sort of this weird alternate definition of "indie creator" that a lot of people are operating under.

Like "Indie creator" is not a term for "person unassociated with a org who makes stuff", its like five-to-four specific studios that they like. They're always the most successful and popular "indie" creators with merchandise you can buy from hot topic and finales that release in threatres. Their pilots are always fully and professionally animated and get picked up half a second after theyre released. their series are always clean and have mass appeal, never uncomfortable or meaningfully weird beyond what youll see on post spongebob nickelodeon. Their teams are small, relative to the average studio, but they never have any monetary constraints, at least ones that meaningfully effect them. Oh and don't forget to watch their series on whatever big 5 streaming service its being hosted on. Still an indie series, even if its getting that amazon prime money!
