🤗 i dont like this emoji. this is not a hug to me. this is someone doing condescending jazz hands in my general direction when i am in need of affection. not comforting.
🫂 i love this emoji. this is a hug. we are hugging and its nice. and as a special bonus they appear to be my old friends from the msn messenger logo? very comforting.
ID: A youtube comment with 11 likes by Niceone, it says "I've lived 46 years without knowing this. How nice of life to save some of the best bites for later." End ID.
Normally, people tend to get frustrated, even jokingly, if they miss out on something. This comment was on a song from 1974 and it made me smile quite much. Simply appreciative. Like a dessert after dinner.
It is genuinely mind blowing to me just how many Tumblr posts have changed my life for the better and taught me to be happier. Not all of the thoughts originate on Tumblr, but the way people collect and frame them has literally changed my brain chemistry.
Gremlins in the tech!
My OLD wrist cuff suddenly works again, after receiving its replacement. And I tried to get that thing going for two weeks before giving up. So now I have two.
The scale, however, has officially kicked the bucket. RIP to a scale that ran about ten years. And I got it used. It saw the sunset of most of its functions when we went from WiFi4 to...where are we now, 6? Basically was unable to connect to anything anymore because its tech level was basically ANCIENT by now, so it couldn't talk to the Internet anymore. Even so, it functioned as a scale...until it didn't function. Again, RIP to an MVP.
Its replacement, a ten dollar no-name unit, is here, and with more bells and whistles than the first. I took my first weigh in and actually got such a comprehensive overview that I low-key don't mind my Aria's sung its last song. (I regret nothing about that pun.)
Before anyone says anything:
Not backsliding. Therapy is making sure of that.
I am aware that the number on the scale is not my worth.
But the fact is that I am way, way past the weight that would be considered even 'borderline unhealthy.' My joints can't handle it. My cardiac health is Not Great. And apparently, my bone density is shite! So I have to do this, in the name of feeling better and doing better. And it's going to be a part of my life going forward. I'm very what used to be known as 'health at every size' (is it still known as that?); however, my size is not healthy FOR ME. So I am going to be working to change that.
That said, I will do my best to tag any weight loss entries with something in case any of y'all need to nope out of them. I haven't come up with a clever tag, but I'll do that at some point. I'll also throw them under a cut, LJ-style.
As always, I hope that everyone has a nice day.
I just saw a video title on YouTube that said something like “Why is glass transparent?” And that’s an interesting question and I’m sure it’s great that the video exists but my first thought was like “Because glass is terrible, obviously.” Because it’s unwieldy and let’s out warmth and needs to be heated to hundreds of degrees to be shaped and turns into hundreds of tiny daggers if you drop it. Why the hell would we bother with that if it didn’t have some magical quality like being totally transparent despite being solid? Glass is transparent because if it weren’t, we’d use something else.
looking through my “me” tag and this is apparently what I was thinking 3 years ago
If you’re still curious we did not start working glass for its transparency. It was most likely started as a sanitary concern. Glass is easy to clean with soap and water, once it’s cleaned out you can use it again for anything and no germs or flavor from the previous meal or drink will remain.
Other materials at the time, namely clay, would absorb flavors and germs meaning that if you ate beef off a clay plate your next meal with that plate could have beef flavor and microbes common on cow meat on it. That would leak out seemingly at random no less. Heck imagine a sick person coughing into their soup bowl and then months later their germs hiding in the clay would pop out to infect whole new people.
Also the earliest human use of glass we know of is for its sharpness. Pre-historic people would use volcanic glass as sharp knives for food preparation. Also beads. Pretty much any new substance humans get their hands on for most of our history we immediately try to make into beads.
The fact that it could become see through was a side benefit.
this is amazing and I’m really glad I reblogged that old bullshit post because I got to learn this
Also, early glass was Not transparent! That’s actually a fairly recent innovation. In order for glass to be transparent, especially to be clear, the silica sand has to be a certain level of purity, so before we could filter and refine it to that point, glass was opaque!
If you wanna know the state of Yugioh TCG collecting in the wake of Overframes in the core game…
The situation is so funny man
Basically, Mr grifter announced that he might be getting into the collecting side of yugioh, which would lead to the scalping hell that now plagues the Pokémon and One Piece TCGs
As a joke, MBTYugioh gave them pointers on what to “invest in”, recommending some of the WORST shit products that this game released in the years
He then followed up with a tongue-in-cheek, clearly trolling video recommending shit like Legendary Duelists sets, Duelist of Deep and Synchro Storm, and the Platinum cards, and exclusive COINS before ending the video with “Don’t invest in yugioh. You will lose money due to this game’s reprint policies”
Like, it was very obvious for anyone with half-a-brain cell and is familiar with Yugioh that the video is a joke
BUT a bunch of scalping bots took the video at face value and bought out these doodoo, worthless products immediately after his fuckass video came out
Now they’re sitting on unsellable trash. 100% deserved, I hope everyone whose trying to grift this game like Pokémon loses their money
Yu-Gi-Oh fans really saw the scalpers coming and said "You've activated my trap card".
oh my gosh they really did pull a real life trap card
We're on a new platform with a totally different audience...we have to prove ourselves all over again...convince a totally new group of people to think we're funny and worth your attention....so allow me to drop some of my "A" material....the funniest thing I got.......here goes....... jeef berky

Wasn't ready for the tongue cleaner attachment on the water flosser
Not in that it hurt, no (it didn't)
Not in that there was a learning curve (there was)
But in that I DEFINITELY feel like I just stepped out of the dentist's office
This is not a complaint, mind you—that freshly cleaned feel is great, and the device itself is in large part responsible for the absolutely bubbly review at my last dental checkup, so if you're on the fence about one here's your sign
You don't have to get giant lives-on-the-sink ones anymore, either. Mine is travel sized. And if you're afraid it'll hurt, there's usually a "soft" mode you can start with. When I started it was more like a tingling but it subsided a couple days in. And according to my dentist,* it's just as effective as thread floss, and easier on my ouchy mouth.
*: my dentist is one dentist and there's like...discourse, almost, about what's better. The only thing that they seem to agree on is water flossers are easier to keep up with because the act feels more necessary once the habit forms—and they're not wrong. This is much easier than thread floss, which is physically awkward and painful for me. Any flossing is better than none is the one thing they agree on.
There are nights where I am in the middle of the thought "I'm too tired to do the thing" but by the time I finish the thought, I'm already snapping in a tip and measuring my concentrated mouthwash out. It only took a couple of weeks to get there. Watching my oral health improve was a big part of it. It's been four months and in that space I've gone from my dentist being ✨highly concerned✨ to raving about it. And I had a bad case of diabetic mouth. No more!
This is all to say (as I did earlier) if you're on the fence about one, go for it 。◕‿◕。
It's official: I am officially one of those people who has to monitor their heart rate and blood pressure.
According to my cardiologist, I should have been doing this since I got my diagnosis of POTS in the first place, but it's been a road getting here. The good news is, I've already been doing some of the things that I'm supposed to do about it--namely, monitoring my pulse rate, which is something that my watch can do.
(more under the cut. Content: medical talk, mostly cardiac, some talk of non-weight-loss exercise)

Well yeah it flares up the old tachycardia but sometimes you need a shower hot enough to melt the coconut oil you brought in for moisturizing afterwards.
I'm tired but I'm soft and smell like frankincense and vanilla, so I'm not complaining.
Glad I didn't put it off, because the heat actually helped my IC flare.
It's a lot healthier to go for a daily walk than to sign up for a gym membership you won't be using because you hate that kind of exercise. It's a lot healthier to eat a frozen meal than to skip a meal because you were too tired to cook something healthy. It's a lot healthier to take a quick shower than to procrastinate an elaborate routine for days. Don't aim so high that you won't be hitting anything!
this is actually really helpful and affirming thanks
*in tears* Thanks kitty, I needed this...
autism tests are so funny. I'm extremely literal most of the time, but people don't tell me that generally, so I'm inclined to answer disagree. because I'm taking the statement too literally
