This panel is so important to me, okay? Cass calling herself stupid (and she’s considered herself broken and in need of fixing before, but the specific usage of “stupid” here is important). And Tim just going, “you’re not stupid.”

Firstly, this is a direct callback to Cass’s fight with Barbara:

Because of this scene, Cass and Barbara have a huge falling out which takes 13 issues for them to resolve, which is part of why Cass moves to Blüdhaven and is fighting crime there with Tim during this issue. Cass calling herself stupid, using that same word that hurt her so much…it’s a sign of how much this incident (and Barbara’s pattern of ableism towards Cass) got to her.

And then Tim…Tim has been kind of scared of Cass before and not really sure what to do around her, and he certainly hasn’t been the most respectful to her in the past, but right now, Tim says something that Cass really needs to hear. And he says it so easily too. “You’re not stupid.” No ifs ands or buts. Just simply stating a fact. Cass is not stupid.
