I really like allowing Koji to steal something that is safe to have like a receipt or money wrapper and watch the delight as he prances around bc "look!!! I have thiefed thine item!" And he brings it to me, but not too close, to show so that he can scamper away as I lazily chase him. Because he just loves it. He's so proud of his thievery. And really he doesn't take things like food. Mostly paper. He loves paper and he knows he's allowed to steal it without having to trade for something else, I think. Idk it's just real cute

Thistle’s relationship with her muzzle is complicated

It depends on a combination of factors as to if she will be wearing it, including but not limited to:

Do I have one or two dogs with me?

Do I think there may be prey animals ?

Is she seeming overexcited?

Is she seeming cranky?

Is she seeming defensive?

She being mellow?

Do I think it will make her struggle to control herself?

Familiar or unfamiliar situation

Chances of being approached by other dogs

How populated an area is

Street walk vs middle of nowhere

My line of sight and level of comfort

If she’s tired vs not tired

If I’m tired vs not tired

If she seems engaged or disinterested today

If any recent risks have happened

Is she on lead or offlead

Is she going to be left alone in the car?

Has there been a sad news story recently where an offlead dog ran up to a stronger but leashed dog and died?

All those interconnect in all kinds of ways that have me evaluating on each basis if she will be muzzled or not.

Bonus round, if I suspect there’s 1080 or KFC trash in the area - both dogs get muzzled.

It’s not unheard of when I do puppy or kitten exams for one of the assistants (or even another vet) to swoop in, grab the puppy or kitten, and disappear with it for “socialization,” which mostly consists of every single person in the hospital cooing and telling said pet how cute he or she is.  Quite often loudly enough for the client to hear.

Litter exams end up being a rotation, with me examining/vaccinating/deworming one while the others get spirited away, and me having to yell out “Next!” into the hallway when it’s time to swap.
