The community is aware of the issue contributing to Education and Health in the Hispanic Community…
As stated “Racial and ethnic health disparities undermine our communities and our health care system.” (Families USA, 2014)
Minorities are overseen as part of the community within health care systems… Higher education contributes to improving conditions within the Hispanic population.
And “NAHN is committed to advancing the health in Hispanic communities and to lead, promote and advocate the educational, professional, and leadership opportunities for Hispanic nurses.” (National Association of Hispanic Nurses.)
The Hispanic minority group is being undermined in an educational and health level where they are restrained from opportunity that non-hispanic individuals have at a better reach.
When being in the educational level “Minority nursing student’s face multiple barriers to success including insufficient academic advising, program mentoring, technical support, and professional socialization. This highlights the need to create and maintain nursing programs capable of aggressively supporting minority student needs.” (Loftin, Newman, Dumas, Gilden &Bond, 2012)
In health care systems “Hispanic health is often shaped by factors such as language/cultural barriers, lack of access to preventive care, and the lack of health insurance” (U.S. Department of health and Human Services Office of Minority Health.)
“Today, in fact, Hispanics account for 42% of the population… roughly one third of the population in California and Texas.” (Minority Nurse.)
Hispanics are in fact one of the largest minority groups …
“Yet only 2% of the nation’s registered nurses are Hispanic, and the percentage of Hispanic nurses educated at the higher level is even smaller.” (Minority Nurse.)
Due to the lack of Hispanic opportunities with higher education levels
“More than one-fourth of Hispanic adults in the United States lack a usual health care provider, and a similar proportion report obtaining no health care information from medical personnel in the past year.” (Livingston, Minushkin, & Cohn, 2008)
“Universities, colleges, and nursing programs specifically are beginning to focus on increasing diversity as they seek to effectively prepare nursing students to serve diverse clients and communities.” (Bednardz, Schim & Doorenbos, 2010)
“The American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE) is an agent of change for improving education, thus enabling Hispanic students to fully participate in a diverse society.”
Health education for the community such as, “Eat Well El Paso department of public health incorporate health programs to help educate youth on healthy eating.”
“It is necessary to work in order to increase awareness and knowledge of the positive effects that healthy food choices can have on our health and our Hispanic community.”
Our mission is to improve health and advance education for the Hispanic community. Hispanic “community empowerment and developing a well articulated voice”
“efforts strive to deliver and form a fresh Hispanic perspective… as a solid voice for our Hispanic community, on topics of Health and Education” (Latino Institute.)
