dungeon crawler carl is fun because you go into it thinking it'll be an unserious, fun and gratuitously violent action book, and then you get to the very first boss, and then you think, now hold on. Hold on. And then all of a sudden you're seven books deep and insane and also holding on to the indomitable human spirit for dear life and also a crab has to jack off. like holy shit dude. i've got relentless hope and found family in one hand and the world's weirdest foot fetish in the other
It will make you say: "What the fuck? Give me more."
There is functionally no difference between doing something nice because you actually care and doing something nice because it makes you feel good or because you think you're obligated to.
A charity does not care if you're only donating because your religion says you should; either way, your money is still going to help people. That little old lady next door does not care if you only help her with gardening because being thanked makes you feel good, it's just nice to have some extra hands.
"Fake it til you make it," is a phrase for a reason but it's also okay if you NEVER make it, if you never feel the "correct" emotions behind your actions. Your thoughts and feelings matter considerably less than the impact your actions have on other people.
It's like that story about the man who was going to donate to the hospital so he could get his name on a plaque, then realizes his motives were self-aggrandizing and spiralled on whether he should donate at all. At last he asked his rabbi, who said. "The sick in the hospital don't care if you just did it to puff yourself up. Don't shy away from doing the good thing just because you cannot do it perfectly!"
What an utterly cruel thing to tag this post with while completely missing the point. This post was about reassuring people with low and non-existent empathy that they are capable of being kind and doing good, even when they aren't feeling the "right" emotions.
If someone does good for gratitude, as opposed to genuine care, that's better than doing nothing out of apathy or a belief that nothing good you do matters because your motivation is selfish.
Damn the perceived world sounds cool as hell
(blue is average of people’s estimate of percentage of population of which x is true, and red is the actual percentage)
I appreciate how it’s perceived jews are 30% of the population, muslims are 27% of the population, and atheists are 33% of the population. nobody wondered why christians were 10% huh
I honestly don’t even think this is as much “minorities being extremely visible”, and more just that the most people don’t understand fractions and statistics.
To most people, anything less than 10%, in any context, is basically “insignificant, not even worth your attention.”
The idea that Asians could be “only” 4% of the US population, and yet you still see a couple Asian people every day of your life, is deeply counterintuitive to most people. People don’t truly grasp that they pass by hundreds if not thousands of strangers every day and about 1 in 25 of them are going to be Asian.
Right now annual inflation is at a pretty high 9%, which is more than triple what the usual inflation rate is. But I guarantee if you asked the average person on the street what the inflation rate is right now, they’d think prices have gone up by anywhere from like 30-100%, because “9%” just doesn’t feel like a substantial or noticeable amount in their minds, even though it is.
Obsessed with the fact that 92% of people live in NYC, California, and Texas
This reminds me of a different post I saw recently, wherein OP was - understandably - irked that so many professionals will characterize something that affects 1%-2% of the population as “a rare illness”. In actuality, if you’re in a lecture hall with 300 people, that means 3-6 of people who are in the same room with you. It means you might meet people with [disorder] every day, and not realize it.
reblogging for that last comment. I’ve been saying this for years
same thing with “only” 1% of the world is trans, and “only” 1% of the world is ace. I saw somewhere on here that if you do the math, there’s more trans people than there are Canadians. This is where the jokes about aces conquering Denmark/Belgium/the Netherlands come from. There are more aces than the populations of some countries.
People with celiac are estimated at ~1.4% of the world population (confidence interval 1.1-1.7%, as per Singh et al. 2018)
1-2% of the world population are natural redheads.
When people say celiac is “super rare” or “not common enough to consider/factor in/plan for” I bring up that stat. it usually does make people do a double take. Sometimes I even get an apology!
Also as someone who is celiac and a redhead it amuses me.
Yuuuuup. So what you’re saying is that about 2 out of every 100 people have it? And you think that’s not worth planning around?
Fundamental life advice: never trust a product from a youtuber/influencer sponsorship
Raycons - overpriced repackaged cheap bullshit
Hello fresh - last years workers were on strike for shitty work conditions and there’s reports of union busting. Never have i seen a youtuber acknowledge this at all
Adam and Eve - the dildos aren’t all from body safe materials. Don’t risk it with cheap dildos it can fuck your body up
Audible - owned by amazon
Idk which one but one of the vpn ones mined bitcoin from ur computer and they’re useful but generally falsely advertised, not a big tech person but this guy talks about it
All the fit teas and shakes etc are bullshit that just makes you poop and loose water weight short term
Raid shadow legends - lol do i even need to explain this one
All the loot crates - filled with cheap junk they’re getting wholesale
The online coupon thingies are a data harvesting scam. Just google the shop name + coupon when shopping
The online therapy better help was a whole big controversy and i still see this shitty company being promoted
Idk maybe the learning platform ones are the exception but i never looked into them
Adding on to this. Skillshare is hard to cancel. There’s a slight chance this has changed but when I looked into subscribing, there was a lot of people complaining about having to email the company multiple times to cancel.
Since Squarespace is templets, they legally own whatever you make. If you decide to change providers, you can’t take it with you. You’re stuck with them forever or have to rebuild your website from the ground up. You at least own the domain name so there’s that, but for me it’s not worth the work if I have to restart should I ever decide I hate the company.
I want more people to know this because every time I’ve looked into something advertised by youtubers, it’s never been good.
if they werent scams they would do real advertising. simple as
REBLOG THIS POST IF YOU FEEL SAFER WHEN QUEER SPACES ARE OPENLY ACCEPTING OF AMAB NONBINARY PEOPLE
wizards thinking of clerics as hacks cause we spent years of study learning the secrets of the universe they cheated and got a god to do their magic for them
clerics thinking of wizards as hacks cause we spent years serving and cultivating a deeply personal relationship with a god they copied down some cheat codes to make stuff blow up
I’m all for going about queerness with the goal of not being able to be understood by outsiders but like. you’ve GOT to be normal about aro & ace people if you do. you can’t go on about being confusing to cishets for fun and then complain about ace & aro people who go about sex and romance and attraction in ways that don’t make sense to you.
supporting queerness that confuses others should include queerness that confuses YOU too even if you’re queer yourself.
reading a tgirl self defense zine and wishing i’d know about this like 3 weeks ago
i cannot stress enough how important the last one is. your friend who’s kinda tall or looks tough? your friend who’s a little clocky in an intimidating way, or the girl who passes better than you or did a bit of voice training? she’s not gonna take care of it for you. there is no weapon, no intimidating stance, no threat more effective in de-escalation than even a single other person who at least looks like they’re willing to help out someone getting harassed. fan the fuck out and show up for your friends.
Okay the funniest thing about this is that everyone’s saying I’m taking away his space by putting things in the window
He has this entire one right next to it with a blankie and he uses it exclusively for people watching. He really only goes to the other window when he decides to be A Menace
Also his name is Banjo
He as a stroller
Omg there been updates!!
A thing that bothers me about wizard schools in popular media – outside of the magic-grade-school stuff, anyway – is that they're typically depicted as being basically magic universities, but their actual curricula and pedagogical approaches look much more like those of a technical institution. Like, buddy, that's not a wizard university, that's a wizard trade school. You can't just slap university student culture on top of trade school pedagogy. It doesn't work like that – the one emerges from the other!
"Well ACTUALLY wizards are" wizards are made up. They can be analogous to whatever real-world class or vocation the author wants. Wizard-school-as-university and wizard-school-as-technical-institute are both perfectly fine; what I am grumping about is wizard-school media that doesn't seem to have a clear picture of how different sorts of educational institutions actually operate.
Okay but now I really want to know what a Wizard technician would look like. Would he wear magical overalls with all kinds of reagents and magic tools sticking out of his numerous pockets?
A guy like that walks into your tower with a toothpick in his mouth, takes one look at your summoning circle and goes
“I see yer problem. You used chalk B12 instead of S3. B12 is only for transmutation circles. Gimme a sec I think I have a piece somewhere here.”
He fixes your circle, test summons an imp and goes.
“There ya go. Fit as a fiddle.”
“It’s the chalk.”
“The chalk? I always use that chalk, it’s never been a problem.”
“Ah - yes. This stuff will work just fine for most circles, but, uh - here, take a look with my loupe. You see the off-color flecks? Can’t hardly see them with the naked eye, but those are impurities. Silicates, might even be some iron in here, to be honest. Usually won’t cause a problem, but - you said you hadn’t tried this particular summons before?”
“First time trying a 5th level, yeah.”
“Those silicates will make your scribing a little fuzzy when viewed from the astral plane. You see, for example, these three fine lines here? With this chalk, on the astral that looks like one thick line with fuzzy edges. They can’t tell exactly what you want, and they’re picky lil’ critters so they just won’t do anything in response.”
“Really? Oh. I always thought the expensive chalk was just fancy to be fancy.”
“Making pure chalk is difficult, you need a dedicated production line or dust gets in the finished product. To be honest, you don’t need to bother with it for most things, but 5th and up, 5th level and up, it actually is necessary. Anything with lines within about two millimeters of each other.”
“So I need to start over?”
“Unfortunately yes. You’ll have to erase all this, but with some good chalk it should work just fine. Next new moon your summons should go off without a hitch.”
“Dang. At least it’s not my sigils, I was worried it was my sigils.”
“Nah Your sigils look good. Even and balanced. You know what you’re doing, it’s just an equipment problem.”
“Thanks for the help, sorry to make you come all the way out here.”
“No problem! It’s my job.”

There’s a big difference between respecting a person’s right to hold a belief and respecting the belief itself.

I dunno what young, transmasc needs to hear this, but like, you’re allowed to transition to look like a feminine man. You can just do that. If you wanna be a man in a dress, you can be a man in a dress. No one is stopping you. Like, who cares? Gender is fake. Just have fun. *blows kiss*
