I was in line at Aldi and this girl with two toddlers in front of me had her card declined and she looked so fucking sad and said “let me call my husband real quick” and it was only 18 dollars, so I just paid for it, and she was very sweet and then as she walked off, the lady behind me said `”You know that was probably a scam, right?” and like, even if it was, like what a sad fucking scam, right? 18 dollars at the Aldi. If you’re “scamming” me for some Tyson chicken and apple juice and cauliflower, then just take my fucking money.

This happened to me, too. A woman had used WIC for the majority of her stuff (which I say from personal experience is such a long and embarrassing process) and to buy the remainder of her groceries, which included diapers and wipes, she used a card, and it got declined. I bought the other $30 of her groceries because hey, I’ve been there, and now I’m not. She was extremely emotional and began to cry and even hugged me. My mom called me on the drive home and could tell I had been crying myself, asked what was wrong, and when I told her what happened, she berated me for being “duped.” I couldn’t believe she could be so disappointed in one of her children for doing something- nice? Is that the hill you want to die on? Getting mad about people needing groceries?

I once paid for a woman’s bill at the vet…it wasn’t a big one, but she was trying to pay for some medication for her dog, and her card was declined. And her lip started trembling, and she says “I don’t get paid until Tuesday, would he be ok until then?” 

So I just told them to add the $20 something onto my bill, and I thought she was going to break down crying right there.

And I don’t care if it was a scam or not. Just do nice things for people sometimes.

Meanwhile in the Netherlands, the Dutch court has upheld a a historic legal order on its government to accelerate carbon emissions cuts. So we have the Netherlands doing that, Ireland divesting from fossils fuels and Costa Rica doing an outright ban while here in Canada the rightful parties that should be in power and unable to do anything while Trudeau and that fascist just keep going backwards.

Can you modify the original post to include more of the original article, specifically the part that discusses why the interim curriculum sucks monkey butt… not everyone wants to click through, and there’s very little content in the current quoted excerpt.

The point of not linking entire articles are two fold:

1.) Nobody likes huge posts stretching the screens

2.) Journalists depend on article clicks to get paid.

If you wish to quote an additional part of the article, you’re welcome to do that. But I thought what I quoted was sufficient for people to determine if they wanted to read more or not.

The point of a quoted excerpt is to give people enough of a taste that they can determine if they wish to read the full article. I encourage everyone to read the full articles of everything I post (or at least the articles you are interested in).

Then OP obviously doesn’t know good people. Yes there is a difference in showing sympathy to something that is temporary and something that is permanent. That doesn’t mean that sympathy is out the window. It becomes a different form.

You can’t give the same sulympathy to someone who is chronically ill because then they wouldn’t be able to do things on their own or continue with an independent lifestyle. But sympathy can be given in that aspect if that person is a friend to them and helps them manage whatever pain or ailment they have so that person could live with as little pain and discomfort as possible.

Also what op is gettinf at is that you get something from someone’s sympathy. They probably think it expires because it involves getting something from that sympathy. That’s not always the case.

Sympathy can be being someone the person can talk to, being their friend, and so much more. It’s more than just gifts or monetary values.

UCP Edmonton-West Henday Constituency president Terry Howlett says he did not know who group was at pub night

The United Conservative Party says it does not share the “hateful views” of Soldiers of Odin, after three UCP candidates were seen posing for photos with members of the extremist hate group.

Photos posted on the Soldiers of Odin Facebook page show UCP Edmonton-West Henday candidates Nicole Williams, Lance Coulter and Leila Houle smiling while posing with some of the group’s members at a UCP pub night in Edmonton on Friday.

At least 10 members of Soldiers of Odin are visible in the pictures, wearing hats, hoodies and leather vests emblazoned with “S.O.O.”
