It's been a while since she got here and there's no one around to ask what's happening. She wandered through Shibuya for a while and decided to check her apartment for further information, not knowing what else to do.
Arriving there, her first sign of something wrong was that she couldn't turn on the lights, it got her nervous remembering that even in her way there from Shibuya, she saw no one, not a single soul.
Tokyo was deserted.
Coming soon...

this is in yiddish too!! shm-reduplication, so phrases like "fancy-shmantzy" (implying mockery). and not only in hindi ("chai-shai" for tea and snacks) but it also filtered into english used by hindi speakers—e.g. my mother-in-law would always say "party-sharty" to mean a party and then the afterparty/hangout following. it's so beautiful :')
English also had a nicknaming form in the late 18th-early 19th century like this. it involved switching the first letter of a consonant-led name with a P and hyphenating it; the most common example is Peggy and Polly as nicknames from Margaret (Margaret > Meg > Meggy > Meggy-Peggy > Peggy and Margaret > Moll > Molly > Molly-Polly > Polly), but I've also seen "Sal-Pal" and "Sally-Pally" in c. 1810 letters from one specific family here in Boston
So... Hayffie fic idea because I binge read "Watch the fangs" by EllanaSan instead of sleeping... anyway vampires
Hayffie are vampires... old vampires... they know each other for 250+ years, together together by 200 of those (they are married your honor), and it's been hell of a ride!
Idk how to write drama, so it's a slice of life fic.
Who turned them? Plutarch turned Effie, for reasons that are away from me at the moment (i'll let you guys know if anything comes to me later). The white bitch turned Haymitch for shits and giggles (and projection!)
Snow transformed Haymitch after seeing him Lenore being love dovey anf generally an amazing couple, and remembering himself and the fairy (Lucy Grey Baird the icon the legend) who enchanted and left him millenia ago (giving crazy Calypso X Davy Jones vibes).
So he turns Haymitch, but no panic! Our lover boy just need to turn Lenore and everything will be okay, right? Wrong! Lenore does not want eternity, freedom is in the moment we make in the now... and Haymitch respects that, even if it breaks his heart a little, 'cause he loves that woman so freaking much! But he will watch over her and their family (the abernathys and the covey) even if he has to do it at a distance (it's the 1700s/almost 1800s for christ sake! He doesnt want to have everyone persecuted for witchcraft!)..... Snow acuses Lenore of witchcraft (his Frolo moment if you will) and their family is killed by man of God.
Haymitch can do nothing because Snow is keeping him caged, watching the fire leave his eyes. And they keep haymitch alive for years waiting for him to break, until Plutarch "meets him" and now there's a vampire society so they must prepare Haymitch to enter it, so they send Effie, who is gentle and kind and doesn't lie to haymitch nor placate him, she sympathize 'cause she also couldn't protect her family, she was a fairy (more like a white witch) who traded her life for her sister's who was dying from a plague, and while her sister got healthy again she contracted the plague fully aware she would die, but Plutarch "saved" which made the god of death mad which in turn caused her whole family to die as consequence. The whole situation made Effie suspicious of him, even she had to follow her sire to understand what she was turned into, that's why she kinda doesn't get why haymitch doesn't like Snow, who in her eyes is a kind distinguishable gentleman who offered guidance and a place to belong.
Anyway, Snow marries the two of them (my guy is traditional thar way and i'm a sucker for arranged marriages), with the hopes of endearing Haymitch to his side, so they start living kinda like a couple of roomates who argue a lot. Haymitch knows what snow's trying to do but can't help but be kind to effie who doesn't truly understand his dislike for the vampire society but also tries so much to connect to him... fast forward plutarch and haymitch divise a plan to kill Snow, without telling Effie a thing.. the plan fail, plutarch covers his marks and lets the blame fall on Haymitch who was prepared for everything except the exile from him and his wife from the society, his wife who didn't know anything about what he was doing and is devasted from having to leave the only place where she felt comfortable and belonging... they leave and settle elsewhere far far away and then they have the magnum opus of all their fights where things and words are thrown and shoved and ripped.. it's a whole thing.
In the end they leave each other to simmer in their misery, and then they come back 'cause they are alone, effie is worried for haymitch (she's older than him by 20 years in vampire life span, so she has had more time than him to understand her position the world as a person) and also she's kinda bitter, but willing to listen like she always was while demanding Haymitch listens to her too 'cause his pain is not the only one that is valid, so they compare notes and reach an understanding and get together together as more than roomates and agree to not hold any more secrets from now on.
Fast forward they meet other vampires like Mags, Chaff, Finnick & Anne, Cashmere, etc... and they are well for a while with their friends, but effie doesn't really belong with them as much as she tries (she was from nobility in the before, while they have always been lowborn merchants or farmers) their perspectives are wayyyy different. And when plutarch comes knocking on their door it's like a sentence, so in the middle of the night she explains she has to leave, travel, see the world from the ground to understand and also to run, she doesn't deny it, she gets it but doesn't wanna be part of whatever they're doing after all the distress it caused her the first time... and Haymitch sends her on her way, because he gets it, and he loves her. They will meet again.
And they do many times across the years...
When effie turns Portia, a friend she made on court and saw almost die from poison before having the instinct to exchange blood, the first thing our butterfly does is grab her new fledgling and get back to her husband's village, where both of them recuperate and stills themselves for the new reality. It's not every vampire that can make fledglings, it's not a great thing either for most, as with the times vampirism is now seen as a curse more than a gift.
Effie leaves again, Portia goes with her, village life is not for them, and they travel and come back, this time with Cinna, and as the years go by Effie makes her own coven, and she is happy.
(She's also the one who turns Peeta, who she met as a kind barista on her last travel, two months later she smelled his blood behind the Cafe and found him dying from blood loss and turned him, Katniss was turned by Snow not much after in another place for worse motives)
Peeta is different tho, more uncontrollable, it's like he is searching for something (you know what), so as she always do Effie brings him to the village and that's the start of the next part of the story I will take ages to write if I wanna sleep.
