Joking aside, it's not just yearning. I think he finds Jay-Den utterly fascinating. This whole ritual has him captivated. I really do believe that he was enthralled with Klingon culture before he even met Jay-Den. I think he was so excited to see a Klingon irl, and a hot Klingon at that. It's why he immediately walked up to him and made a total idiot out of himself trying to act like a tough man thinking that it was the best way to get Jay-Den to like him. And I think Darem finds the dichotomy of who Jay-Den is vs the culture Jay-Den was raised in to be even more interesting than Klingons alone.

Side note, I headcanon that Darem 100% knows how to speak Klingon and was just pretending bc he didn't want to look too thirsty.
