as much as I love art of buffed to all hell Gideon (specifically gtn Gideon and not Kiriona) and yes, she has biceps the likes of which Jeannemary and Isaac have never before seen—I do think something is lost by making her shredded to all hell in back. and not just the realism of the fact that she only eats snow leek gruel and protein bars when she can find them. Gideon feels like she’s the hottest and buffest and the biggest around to herself, and by extension to us. but she’s still a teenager, barely an adult, she wouldn’t even be finished growing yet. I think there’s something important about the fact that she is physically imposing but she’s also smaller than we think. yes she is strong in all measures, but she’s still so young. she’s still small. she might not be as much of a wilted flower and drowned cat as Harrow is, but she’s still breakable. and I think that’s important.

"Harrow is a goth" "Harrow is a prep" "Harrow dresses alt" "Harrow would dress to fit in"

Harrow is the broke homeschooled kid from an isolationist cult that was let out on mission and/or bargained her way into attending a university so she could bring knowledge and funding back to the community. All her clothes are second-, third- or fourth-hand and have been patched and mended to hell and back and are not visually distinctive enough to identifiably belong to any subculture. The only exception to this lack of visual distinctiveness are her Church Robes, which are Church Robes. The only new clothing she owns is, like, underwear, maybe.

She is covered from neck to wrist and ankle because if anyone saw she had a human body under there she would gouge their eyes out. Most of her clothes are home-dyed black because she did it in the bathtub, and they must be black to show she is in permanent mourning. Also because then it's less likely people will notice she wears the same shirt and skirt for three days straight.

She does still have piercings (she is the only one on the Ninth mentioned to have piercings, I do not believe those are sacramental and are fully a Harrow Thing) because she can argue it's holy mortification of the flesh. Otherwise, thinking about what she is wearing is a distraction from more important things, which are a) being Righteous and b) proving she is the smartest person in the room.

people don’t dwell on how crux cared for harrow as much as they should. he was the only one left to attend to her when her parents died, aswell as being her caregiver before they passed.

these are a few examples of him feeling genuine familial affection towards her, because he was all she had. and harrow felt the same

even though crux is a detestable sour old man who swears fealty to the ninth at every juncture, he wasn’t committed to the tomb or to the house of the ninth, he was committed to the reverend daughter of the ninth; his daughter

ianthe tridentarius is fascinating to me. she’s a bitch. she’s a murderer. she has a borderline-incestuous relationship with her twin sister. she wants the goth nerd with mental illness beyond human comprehension. everybody always forgets about her. she’s the only saint loyal to god but not because she’s faithful. truly the most character of all time <3
