I cannot recall if I ever made a post about this or not but I've been thinking about it again and going absolutely bat shit over it
The way Arthur and Merlin are so very obviously foils; like love him or hate him Killagarrah was onto something when he said they were two halves of the same coin.
Like Arthur is a prince raised in comfort but lacked any kind of parental love or affection while Merlin most definitely struggled to survive each winter but never doubted his mother's love for him.
Arthur most definitely had so many people tripping over themselves to befriend him but knew he couldn't ever really trust any of them to be there for him and not the crown while Merlin was the village outcast who only ever had one friend but he knew Will would step up to bat for him if need be.
Arthur whose mom died in childbirth and only has his dad while Merlin's dad was forced to flee and so he only grew up with a mom.
The way Arthur is born of magic and yet possesses no innate magical abilities and yet Merlin is born to human parents and is magic incarnate.
Arthur who does things with honour and good faith while Merlin sneaks around and backstabs if necessary.
Arthur who fights physically; Merlin who fights with magic
Arthur who dies young, Merlin who lives forever
The way they are so similar and yet so distinctly opposites is just *aghhhhnnn* I can't I literally can't they are too much
