I’ve loved Star Trek since I was a kid, but I’ve gotten back into it recently and I’m in love with TOS. I really want to contribute to the fandom and I’m working on some art I can hopefully finish soon. I’ve never really used Tumblr for much but I wanna get into it and I think ranting about my favorite intergalactic gays is a great way to go about it. Hope to be posting more soon!

I've done it! I wrote a tribble poem that I debated at length how to depict, and then decided to digitally illustrate it for my dad's birthday. i finished it just under the wire, because it's today! enjoy! i love the way spock says multiplicative proclivities in the episode and it really made me want to play with words

transcript:

a tribble

(one tribble)

small, spherical and furry

does provoke a disproportionate and inflamed worry.

a gentle trilling being may not suggest incessant threats

but the peril lies, not feral, in each replication of these pets

the multiplicative proclivities of tribbles cause some trouble

because one may expect a tribble, fat on kibble, just to double

but a tribble trapped and happy, spawning litters, average ten

which each, presuming sustenance, beget a litter yet again

and again

and again

and again

until tribbles taking nibbles of any loose edible matter

fill compartments packed with pests, propagating ever fatter

and while this does present a problem, there is another question

each overstuffed annoyance has passed from indigestion

and the storage full of grain became storage full of tribbles

taxidermied by their gluttony, and yet answering a riddle—

each creature within reach here became a sacrifice unknowing

so while pestilent, we must lament each of these corpses overflowing

and thank the humble tribble, while conceding confrontation

spare yourself, be warned and wary— you must invite no tribulation

do not, in any circumstance, purchase without quibble

one, not even one,

small, furry, helpless

Yesss thank you so so much for the ask!!!!! I’m so sorry it took so long, I just have a lot of thoughts 😭

Spock:

- If he isn’t explicitly invited to something personally he just assumes he isn’t wanted there, but then because of that most people assume he doesn’t want to come and it’s a cycle of miscommunication

- He really loves fibre arts, especially embroidery and knitting (which Uhura taught him how to do)

- When he first joined the Academy he wasn’t fluent in Standard and struggled to learn the colloquialisms of the language because those weren’t in the text books he was used to. Whenever he goes back to Vulcan his accent does temporarily get a lot thicker

- He has the ability to learn the basics of almost any skill very quickly if it’s needed. He learnt to darn because Kirk ran out of uniform shirts and now that’s one of his other pastimes

- Amanda is Jewish and brought Spock up with some of their traditions, but once Spock found out it was a strictly human thing that no other families did on Vulcan he stopped (then later on when he found out Jim was also Jewish he eventually started joining in on the customs again)

- He will do his makeup day or night, rain or shine. He could be violently ill and still put his eyeshadow on

- He is demisexual and (i don’t know if there’s a term for this, if there is please let me know!!) he very rarely wants to pursue relationships, he does feel romantic feelings for people it’s just rare

Kirk:

- He’s mostly recovered from Tarsus but because it happened at such a formative stage of his life a lot of his coping strategies are now just habits, like he doesn’t eat until everyone else has begun, and he has to be doing something while eating so that his focus isn’t on the food (he’s so so fine I promise)

- He was very shy when he was younger and one of his higher ups had to kind of give him a wake up call that if he didn’t start actually talking and making connections with other people he’d never be a captain, it was pretty much the only thing ever holding him back

- George Kirk was really into antiques like cars and record players and old films so Jim and Sam grew up around those kinds of things, and all the books and films Jim watches are still at least 200 years old

- He wears makeup but only for formal events as a special little treat (also it takes him way too long) (also why did he have foundation in his quarters in The Enemy Within IN HIS SHADE if not because he wears makeup sometimes)

- He lovesssss horses, if they ever go to a planet where there are any everyone will groan because they know they’re going to hear a million facts about every different breed and how to take care for them. He’ll also ride any horse-like creature he can, safety be damned

- He’s a massive theatre kid, he loves musicals so much especially golden age ones like West Side Story and Guys and Dolls, and he was in all his school shows in high school

- Uhura knew him at the academy and they were best friends, they bonded over old music and movies (she showed him the beauty that is late 90s/early 2000s rom coms) and despite the fact that they’re not best friends anymore they’re still very close and value each other. They still watch movies together when it’s been a rough few weeks

Bones:

- Despite the fact that he never has time, McCoy really enjoys baking. It’s more the experience of baking that he enjoys rather than the product at the end, more often than not he won’t even have any

- Speaking of which, one of the ways he shows his love is through sharing the things he loves with others. If he has an amazing time listening to a song he’ll make others listen to it just because he wants them to feel the joy he did

- Joanna is his WHOLE WORLD, they video call once a week and whenever he gets shore leave on Earth he spends his whole time with her

- He gives out lollipops to his patients after they visit (it’s an old Earth custom, he’s just keeping up tradition)

- He really loves fashion and hates the fact that he has to wear a uniform. He constantly complains about it and for fun on slow days he designs better alternate uniforms, and he really enjoys wearing something fancy and seeing everyone’s surprised reactions because he knows people don’t expect him to be dripped out head-to-toe

I don’t have enough for the others individually so these are just miscellaneous:

- Chapel really loves granola trail mix and she carries little baggies of it with her, it’s not even because it’s healthy she just likes nuts for some reason ???

- Chekov and Sulu’s favourite activity to do is say “ooh, trouble in paradise” whenever Kirk and Spock aren’t being lovey dovey with each other

- Uhura and Sulu are karaoke partners (much to Chekov’s dismay) and they absolutely tear the house down and make everyone else scared to have a go

- Scotty has arthritis in his hands that he keeps trying to ignore

- He also has a prosthetic leg he doesn’t tell people about (not because he’s hiding it, he just doesn’t think he needs to tell people) and once on a mission he got shot in it and everyone was rlly unnerved at the fact that he barely reacted

- Chapel can play the piano so whenever Spock isn’t free, she accompanies Uhura who sings and they lez out together

- Uhura hosts sleepovers in her quarters which everyone tries to keep under wraps because they don’t want to seem exclusive but you can tell when one has happened because the next day all the senior staff have painted nails

- Chekov really loves Scooby Doo and sometimes does the Scooby voice (‘ruh-roh Raggy’) but nobody else has seen it so they just think that’s what he does sometimes
