Last year, I befriended a Catholic seminarian. We've gotten to be pretty decent friends. Seeing as he was staying in town for the summer and I wasn't, I entrusted him with caring for my plant.

He did a wonderful job, but as he was returning my plant to my custody, he explained "I watered her every other day, I gave her new dirt, moved her into the sunshine, prayed the rosary-"

"What?"

He looked at me, confused. "Isn't she a plant you pray with?"

"No," I said slowly. "She's a prayer plant. That's the... colloquial name of the plant."

Upon seeing his stricken face, I realized something went wrong. Turns out, this entire time, he's been including my plant in on his prayers and leaving her near icons.

Listen, totally cool. My plant becoming Catholic is a great deal for her not dying over the summer. But now I must navigate this interfaith household. Keep me in your thoughts.

Lore: I am one with the machine. Its steel is my new flesh, its wires my new nerves, its reactor my new heart. My veins are aflood with coolant. The edge of a sword kisses my armor and I feel the sting of pain, sharp and clear and cold, driving me onward. I dash forth upon steel legs and strike with arms of titanium. The hot wind of the battlefield scours my shining chest. The many-lensed cameras that are my eyes roll back in blissful anguish. The thrumb of my main gun echoes in my loins. I am an iron god. 🥵🥴😵‍😵

This comment has been sitting in my head gently rotating like a rotisserie chicken for a while. Sloped Plating really is the complete opposite side of tonal disconnect between lore and mechanics.

It's one sentence, mentioning it's a common pick by pilots to reduce gaps in external plating. That's it.

And +1 armour is a pretty decent chunk of survivability! It's shrugging off a damage off of every attack, and massively impacts defences against enemies that use multiple smaller attacks over single large attacks. This level of armour plating, either granting your otherwise fragile mech a measure of static defence or even augmenting the already-mighty bulwark of the Drake or the Genghis is achieved by... putting plating where there are gaps in the plating.

So is every mech design by every company, collective, and hegemony stupid, and they forget to armour the joints or... what is going on here? Did IPS-N just forget to add the fourth point of armour to the Drake and you have to call them and ask for the missing parts like a piece of faulty IKEA furniture? Is every other pilot stupid for not noticing this?

Instead of sounding stupid like Full Subjectivity Sync, Sloped Plating gets to make everyone else look stupid.

I wish I could articulate why it fills my heart with love. Something about 2 very different generations of computer voices singing a very simple song together as equals. Something about how music is one of the first things people wanted to make a computer do. Something about how that has continued all these years later with vocaloids. Something about the simplicity and lack of gravitas given to the situation. It doesnt sound like a studio recording, its just two singers duetting an old song together because singing together is simply a joy that anyone can share with another

Supermassive Black Hole lends itself to soundtracking one thing and one thing alone and that is a strip club. Supermassive Black Hole is the most perfect strip club rock song I've ever heard. I've heard rock songs *about* strip clubs that feel less suited to a strip club than Supermassive Black Hole. I have heard songs where sex is explicitly described in the lyrics that feel less sexy than Supermassive Black Hole. Supermassive Black Hole is a song so disgustingly, flagrantly, enticingly slutty that I sometimes feel legitimately shocked that it was made by a band that most people make fun of for sounding like if Radiohead sold out after their first album. It is a crowning achievement in stripper music that may never be topped in our lifetime. It is best known for soundtracking the scene in the first Twilight movie where they play baseball.
