Sir Valentine starts reaping what he sowed in this comic update on Patreon!
There are lots of reasons why fandom is "quieter" now than it used to be. Some theories are more compelling to me than others, and they all have a different scale of impact. We'll never know for sure, of course, but I like to think about it. Thus, this poll.
Of the list below, which reason do you find most compelling or do you think had the biggest impact?
New entrants to fandom don't know the old ways
fandom olds didn't teach the newcomers how to fandom
covid/surge in fandom due to quarantine and lockdowns
"antis" and other harassment campaigns against creators
creators posting complaints about comments (people worry about commenting wrong)
rise of discord popularity - fandom is walled off from each other
tumblr porn ban and other reasons people left the site
capitalism turning fandom into a passive "view and move on" commodity
rules from social media impacting fan culture (eg. don't comment on old posts)
general state of the world / burnout
social anxieties in an increasingly complex online culture
"surveillance state" worries and not wanting to be perceived
This is an incomplete list, so if your most compelling reason isn't listed, feel free to add it in the notes.

wizard college is going to kill me I swear to god. I just saw someone without a component satchel reach into their pocket and pull out a handful of LOOSE tapioca to use as a substitute for blood in their fell ritual. and it worked. I've never been so fucking mad.
experiencing microaggressions apparently

my Harrow comes in the mail later this week I might digest myself in that time
while it was on my TBR list for awhile, seeing your art of Gideon moved it higher up, and I’m so GLAD I finally got my grubby mitts on it

YESSSS LETS GOO one of us!!!
Have a gideon gummy for the wait until HTN gets to your hands. Look! No suspicious fence-post-shaped perforations in her! Just microscopic Gideon!
And when the time comes, good luck reading HTN, I barely survived that book. I'm but a ghost of what I used to be. Take it as you may
Study with Sandro Botticelli and "What's it like working at Lush"
I wasn’t built to be employed. I need to stay up until 4 am like a normal person

unreasonably charmed by Pendant in the shape of a ram's head, Eastern Mediterranean, 5th–4th century BC, made of glass
I never thought about this... you're right, that's awesome
You are a mystery detective that solves fake monster crimes. When you finally meet real monsters, they reward you for being their most trusted agent against identity crimes
A watercolor painting of a swimmer encoutering some sapphic mermaids, edited slightly for tumblr. (The titty-out version is over on my bluesky at juliedillon.bsky.social )
