Jesus Tapdancing Christ... THIS is a good welt pocket and the people who designed Simplicity 2895 ought to be blasted well ASHAMED of themselves for the crap way THEY wanted a welt pocket made. *SNARLS*
This is how I learned to do it and a good example of what you want to see in a short form tutorial: pinning, pressing, seam finishing, good fabric handling.
I would mention that you can make the pocket facing with a small panel of your matching fabric that is visible and the rest in a lighter fabric to reduce bulk. That's a lot of denim layers for comfort.
here is a master list of great art tools that can make your workflow easier! š (updating, please consider supporting me on kofi or check out my other works)
There's a bunch of adhd advice out there that's like "people with adhd tend to work better under deadlines due to the anxiety so here are ways to artificially induce a stress response in order to get you to get work done" and it's like well what if I don't want to be stressed out all the time in order to function
this gold shouldn't stay in the comments
hey loves, Iāve been reading through the comments and loads of people are asking how to not fall into this pattern because thatās all they know. so, hereās some advice from Auntie Pan whoās been in the trenches (stress-caused disabilities and chronic illnesses).
context: grew up in an abusive, controlling home, escaped to uni, had a prolonged mental breakdown, became a teacher and worked in a dysfunctional school with amazing kids and nightmare management for years. I did not realise I have adhd and autism for a long time. (You might even be able to scroll back through this blog to find the time around which I did realise lol.)
ANYWAY, things that have helped me because my body can no longer handle any kind of stress without flaring up:
If youāre doing anything that requires you to do a lot of prep before you begin the actual thing (e.g. cooking, deep cleaning a room, moving house), mise en place. Thatās a fancy french way of saying get everything ready before you begin. So if Iām cooking idk spaghetti carbonara, that means fry and chop the bacon, separate the egg yolks from the whites, put water in the kettle, put dry spaghetti into a pan. Once everythingās ready, it reduces the mental load and means I can focus on the actual cooking and any clean up that I can do along the way. H/t to @ms-demeanor for this, you changed my life!
the Might As Well rule. This one works really well for me but you gotta be careful otherwise youāll get sucked into the Vortex. Basically, letās imagine youāre in the bathroom, brushing your teeth. You notice that the extra roll of toilet paper has been used. instead of thinking, āIāll get to that laterā, and then forgetting about it until you sit down on the bog (no judgement, weāve all been there), you think āMight As Well put an extra roll while Iām here!ā This tends to help with the little tasks that build up over time. This Does Not Work for big tasks.
Leading on from no.2, Do It Immediately/ASAP really helps me too. My current boss will email me on a Friday and say, ādonāt reply to this now! Leave it til monday!ā But she and i both know that if i leave it til monday, I will forget and get stressed and this will make me Very Ill. So, instead, the moment i receive the email, Iāll either schedule in replying to it as soon as Iām done with my current thing, OR Iāll reply to it immediately.
Anything that canāt be actioned immediately, i mark as Unread. Anything Unread in my inbox is a future action, and i check those Unread emails/texts/whatevers Every. Day. To make sure whether today is the day i have the info to action it. (This also means i have to stay on top of my inbox. I read all my emails and then mark them accordingly. Iām also brutal with unsubscribing)
The House Always Wins. Both in a literal sense, because i am in a constant battle with keeping my house clean, and i know now that Iāll never get it as clean as i want it. Itās impossible, i no longer have the energy or stamina to vacuum and scrub everything. But also just in a life sense. Iām never going to achieve things to perfection, and perfect is the opposite of done. And getting things done is that much more important when you have limited energy and strength. Accept that you often have to half-arse life in order to Full-Arse the few things that really matter to you.
Have multiples of everything, everywhere. I wear support gloves, so i need to have handcream at every sink and everywhere i sit down in the house. I try to keep it unobtrusive, but it means i donāt have to trek upstairs just to moisturise my hands. Gum, phone chargers, pens and pencils, water bottles, hand sanitizer, whatever you need.
Work with people, even if itās online. Body doubling actually works. Also Iāve found that if Iām working on assignments, taking myself to a library or study area that isnāt my bedroom helps so much.
Show off! Tell people on here or elsewhere in your life about the fact that youāve just written 100 words! Or that youāve cleaned the fridge and thatās a really big deal for you. Celebrate your wins, no matter how small.
Basically, youāre aiming to reduce the mental load as much as possible. Wear the same types of clothes all the time to minimise the amount of laundry. Eat the same three lunches so decision fatigue doesnāt take over.
All of this takes time to implement and it is cumulative, but i hope it helps. Reading the comments on this post, i finally understand why adhd is comorbid with so many other conditions. letās take care of each other <3
I'm so glad to hear that helped you!
For anybody looking for resources from someone dealing with actual ADHD, I have an incomplete but ever growing list of ADHD tips, tools, and suggestions on my website.
A lot of the pages on that site are adapted from my tumblr posts, for instance I'm adapting this post about car repair projects with ADHD into a guide on project management and completion with ADHD.
(Red links are stuff that I've got planned but haven't published for reasons that are probably clear to anyone looking for ADHD advice online)
Ref Recs for Whump Writers
Violence: A Writerās Guide:Ā This is not about writing technique. It is an introduction to the world of violence. To the parts that people donāt understand. The parts that books and movies get wrong. Not just the mechanics, but how people who live in a violent world think and feel about what they do and what they see done.
Hurting Your Characters: HURTING YOUR CHARACTERS discusses the immediate effect of trauma on the body, its physiologic response, including the types of nerve fibers and the sensations they convey, and how injuries feel to the character. This book also presents a simplified overview of the expected recovery times for the injuries discussed in young, otherwise healthy individuals.
Body Trauma: A writerās guide to wounds and injuries. Body Trauma explains what happens to body organs and bones maimed by accident or intent and the small window of opportunity for emergency treatment. Research what happens in a hospital operating room and the personnel who initiate treatment. Use these facts to bring added realism to your stories and novels.
10 B.S. Medical Tropes that Need to Die TODAYā¦and What to Do Instead: Written by a paramedic and writer with a decade of experience, 10 BS Medical Tropes covers exactly that: clichĆ©d and inaccurate tropes that not only ruin books, they have the potential to hurt real people in the real world.Ā
Maim Your Characters: How Injuries Work in Fiction: Increase Realism. Raise the Stakes. Tell Better Stories. Maim Your Characters is the definitive guide to using wounds and injuries to their greatest effect in your story. Learn not only the six critical parts of an injury plot, but more importantly, how to make sure that the injury youāre inflicting matters.Ā
Blood on the Page: This handy resource is a must-have guide for writers whose characters live on the edge of danger. If you like easy-to-follow tools, expert opinions from someone with firsthand knowledge, and you donāt mind a bit of fictional bodily harm, then youāll love Samantha Keelās invaluable handbook
If the output rate on the sculpts is surprising let that be a testament to Blender being very easy to use I promise if I can learn to sculpt in Blender you can too I am not that smart. I only realized two days ago I can change the brightness on my phone flashlight.
Gonna see how quickly I can rough out the basics of a Mickey sculpt and try to post pics and basic explanations of the major steps I take (+keywords to help look up more in-depth tutorials) on here over the next few hours, 'cause I really wanna encourage people who are curious about learning it to give it a shot!!!
It's 1:15 PM here, Mickey timer begins now
At the 1 hour mark I've got this. This is just how I personally have started blocking out the basic mesh before I start sculpting it lmao. This is made entirely out of cubes, UV spheres, and cylinders, and I just resized and assembled them bit by bit while measuring the parts against each other for proportions
this is all done in the Layout tab
I add and arrange objects in Object Mode
I can go to Edit Mode to move around the vertices of a selected object (like his torso cube) to change its shape
I assembled the limbs only on one side and then selected them all, then right click>duplicate objects. Then go to Objects>mirror (you will have to select the correct axis to mirror them along, either Z or Y depending on which way your model is facing)
When the full shape is assembled, I select all the objects and right click>Join
I'm going to remesh this after getting assembled so I want to keep fingers, limbs, and in the case of this model genitals separated so that they're not touching each other, otherwise the remesh process may fuse them into each other. You have to be in Object Mode to run a remesh.
Once it's remeshed, the shape will have A LOT more polygons and they'll be smaller, so I can sculpt it in more detail in the Sculpting tab
here's my remeshed model in Edit Mode. All of the black is millions of vertices that will move as I'm sculpting.
When I get into very detailed areas like the face, I will need even more vertices to make small, fine creases. I will come back to Edit Mode and select the area I intend to sculpt in detail (turning on X-Ray in the top right might help get them all) and Right click > subdivide once or twice to further divide the polygons in that area
(the bolded keywords here are to help with tutorial searches)
And now I'm gonna go sculpt this thing for a bit
Bout 1 hour of sculpting lol. I'll get to the face next
Here's Mickey's face after another 2 hour+ of sculpting, I'm gonna pause here and go game for a bit. The sculpting phase mostly just requires getting used to your tools at the bottom there. If you've ever had to teach yourself how to use a digital art program, you can learn sculpting in blender the same way. Here's the tools I use the most tho
Notes on using these brushes:
-Holding CTRL reverses the action of a brush, so if it normally pushes the surface INWARD, holding ctrl will make it pull material OUTWARD in the same shape
-Holding SHIFT makes whatever brush you're using function as a smoothing brush so you can smooth down and buff out weird lumps you make as you go
-Holding "F" and moving your cursor adjusts the radius of your brush on the fly
-You can open bonus viewports by moving your cursor to the corner until it forms a + and dragging. These bonus panels can be locked to different angles so you can see what you're doing from multiple angles simultaneously
Anyway I hope this made anybody feel more confident tackling Blender. If I can learn it, if you can learn digital drawing programs, you can use Blender!!!

Homie gonna share this
@c-grace for practice!!
numb hands
The fact that one of these moves is significantly more difficult for me than the other two at least tells me which nerve is probably the most fucked up
Reblogging so I can find this!
i saw someone say nobody needs to know what a .txt file is anymore. what the fuck is the world coming to
unironically i think we need to bring back computer labs because APPARENTLY some people WERENT taught basic computer literacy and internet safety in school
things about computers/the internet i think kids should be formally taught in schools because theyre important to know and the amount of soon to be grown adults i know who know NOTHING about any of these is quite frankly almost all of them (and resources to learn if you dont know these things, because its never to late to get better with computers)
how to troubleshoot by yourself when you have a technical problem
what common file types are
some very basics on how to use ""developer tools"" on your computer (because i cant think of a better way to refer to them) like task manager and command prompt (and their mac equivalents, terminal and activity monitor ofc)
how to read and understand a privacy policy and what your personal data is, as well as what it being collected actually means and steps you can take to keep it private
how to understand terms of service (hey. if you have trouble with reading legalese and worry about being able to understand these policies anyways, here's a site that gives basic summaries of privacy policies and ToS)
what a cookie actually is
internet privacy and your digital footprint!! seriously i dont know why we stopped teaching people that they shouldnt be putting their entire real identity online in a world where your online actions can ruin you irl
basic safety measures like antivirus software (and why you should use it or if the built in one on windows or mac is enough for you) and backing up your computer (also a mac guide)
common keyboard shortcuts (and on mac)
as an additional note: things i think everyone should know on computers and the internet but schools may bit hesitant to teach about for whatever moral/legal standards schools pretend to operate on
vpns and adblockers! (btw for most of these where you can pay for things im purposefully not recommending any specific software but seriously just use ublock origin for an adblocker)
how to not get a virus while pirating something
what a temporary email is and when to use one
red flags that you shouldn't trust a website (and how to quickly check the security of a site)
what javascript on a website does and how to disable it to get around paywalls
ok one last addition! if you want to take it one level higher, i think learning the very basics of at least one programming language is good for people. it makes computers less scary and it makes you feel very cool, and a lot of people get discouraged about it because it seems overly complicated and hard to learn outside a formal classroom setting, so heres some resources for learning the very basics of python (because i consider it the easiest language to learn and knowing one language will make it easier to learn others)
an online compiler so you dont need to download anything or worry about running code directly on your computer if that makes you nervous
a basic video guide to introduce you to python and walk you through beginner steps
a guide to some syntax and commands you should know (this was literally my lifeline in my first CS class)
some performance tasks to give you things to code to practice and assess yourself
man we had a whole ass class that was computer literacy when i was in highschool, as in a full school year of the computer lab just doing this kind of dry computer basics stuff
they made us make a damn website (PER PERSON) and everything
nOT teaching that in modern day feels like what it must have been like to cut home economics and shop class in the mid 1980s, and then like 20 years later all the boomers being shocked no one under a certain age knew how to cook, clean, repair basic things or maintain their car, fresh out of college >:/
back in the 00s a single dancing anime chibi gif would feed us for months on end
Hereās the template. Go forth and recreate the dancing anime chibi gif. Revive the old ways.
This fucking thing all over deviantART in the 00s-10s LMAO
The bases on this post are all JPEGs for some reason. That makes them hard to use properly. I will link to the originals and provide some additional ones, along with a tutorial on how to actually make them into a GIF.
I couldn't find the caramelldansen base in this post, but here is a version that should work just as well.
Here is the original lick icon base.
To save these and have them be usable, you have to click the "free download" button underneath the image.
Some other good bases:
Dance Icon
Caipirinha
Run Run Run
You can find many other bases like these through DeviantArt.
How to make them into a GIF:
Step 1. Edit the base however you like (I used MSPaint)
Step 2: Crop and save each frame individually as PNGs (Note for the lick base: It's best to crop them to include the black boarder. This makes the GIF 50x50, which is the standard DeviantArt icon size and can easily scale larger if need be.)
Step 3: Go to ezgif.com/maker and upload all your frames
Step 4: Set "delay time" to 10, then click "Make a GIF!"
Step 5: Right-click the result and save it. Congrats! You used a GIF base!
ID: 1. A collection of early 2000s animation meme gifs and their still images. 2. screenshots of instructions to edit animation meme templates in ms paint and ezgif.com to result in a licking gif. End ID.
this messed up vintage cat sewing pattern has tormented me since i saw it & like some other folks have done in that post - i tried my hand at tweaking the pattern to resemble the illustration (and my personal tastes) a little more. i've ended up with this, which i have only tested at a small scale and not this final version exactly (where i have done such things as further widening the cheeks and finalizing the leg shapes.) i bestow it upon you nice folks now š
go forth and make weird little beanbag kittens! pls show me if you do!
woah this got big!! and after another try i have another untested tweak for yall. this should help the weird pinchy side seams out. yey
My first attempt! I made the pattern a bit smaller as I wanted it to be able to fit in a pocket, but then (accidentally but perhaps unavoidably) sewed it with a wider seam allowance than the resized pattern indicated, so the face is proportionally a bit too big and I lost some detail in the ear shape. I'm pleased with it though! It was fun to make something and to do some handsewing.
SOO CUTE AND TINIE š
I tried this pattern a while back to try out some minky and I get no points for making the pattern well but looook at my boyyy
His name is Tofu. Thank you for sharing the pattern I will love him forever

Okay Iām currently furious that migraines are often so blindly easy to treat and I had to find this out myself at the age of 26 when Iāve been to a neurologist since I was 11 lol so Iām about to teach you two neat and fast little tricks to deal with pain!
The first is the sternocleidomastoid muscle, or the SCM muscle.
This big red section is responsible for pain around the eye, cheekbone, and jaw, as well as some temple pain. Literally all you have to do is angle your head down a little, angle it away from the side that hurts, and then you can gently pinch and rub that muscle. I find it best to start at the bottom and travel upwards. The relief is so immediate! You can increase pressure as you feel comfortable doing so.
Here is a short and easy video showing this in action
The second is a fast and easy stretch that soothes your vagus nerve, which is the nerve responsible for calming you down. The vagus nerve, for those unfamiliar, is stimulated by deep breathing such as yawning, sighing, singing, or taking a deep breath to calm your anger in a tense situation.
You can stretch this out by sitting up as straight as possible (this does not have to be perfect to work) and interlacing your fingers. Put your hands on the back of your head with your thumbs going down the sides of your neck and, while keeping your face forward, look all the way to one side with just your eyes. Hold that until you feel the urge to breathe deeply or yawn, or until you can tell thereās a change. Then do the same thing on the other side. When you put your arms down, you should clearly be able to turn your head farther in both directions. If the first session doesnāt get rid of your migraine, rest and repeat as many times as necessary. I even get a little fancy with it and roll my eyes up and down along the outer edge sometimes to stretch as much as I can.
If you need a visual hereās a good video on it. I know some of the language they use seems questionable but this is real and simple science and should not be discarded because itās been adopted by the trendy wellness crowd!
I seriously cannot believe I didnāt hear a word of this from any doctor in my life. Additionally, if you get frequent recurring migraines, you may want to see a dietician. Migraines can be caused by foods containing histamines, lectin, etc. and can also be caused by high blood pressure in specific situations such as exercise, stress, and even sex.
If any of this information helps you Iād love to hear it btw! Itās so so fast and easy to do. Good luck!
*currently suffering from a horrible migraine. Tries this*
Are you fucking shitting me it works!?
What. The fuck.
