Hi, my name is Numinex! (Yes like the dead dragon skull I’m Dragonsreach) I’m a 20 something autistic adult who’s got a little bit of an unhealthy obsession with Skyrim I made this account to spare my main account from my insane Skyrim ramblings and to hopefully interact with the community!

I often thought "What the actual fuck is a Jill?!" whenever I come across it on here. After looking up the dragons lore page and seeing how they're not official material, I was a bit relieved.

No, I don't want there to be female dragons. Why? Cuz I think the concept of dragons only being "male" is quite interesting.

They wouldn't understand things like gender, I like to think that they're actually genderless. But because of their voice, mortals referred to them as males, so that's what they go with.

So I like to think, that dragons who are more interested in mortal affairs, would try different pronouns too.

Basically, I believe in she/her dragons, but don't you dare make them have two sexes

I'm ngl despite how much I hate the name I do like Jills as a concept. The gender fuckery is less actual gender (spirits having no gender and all) and moreso MK shoving more alchemical sex magic symbolism into his writing, which he's already prone to do.

The idea with dragons, gender aside, is that they are the primordial shape. The first spirit was a dragon, the Time Dragon. His twin was a Serpent, which is really just another word for dragon. All spirits were dragons before they figured out they were something else. The entire world is an ouroboros, a dragon that eats itself and sheds its skin whenever it eats too much. So on and so forth.

In this regard, the dragons we traditionally know are essentially the baseline of all divinity. Whenever a mortal ascends to godhood, they first and foremost briefly become a dragon, before their myth self actualizes into a distinct entity. The Dragon Breaks, and a new dragon is broken off from its tale, now an autonomous myth. These are our usual dragons.

Now, as per another MK quote, "Jills are to dragons what angels are to men".

Unlike regular dragons, who are associated with the breaking of time, Jills are the "minute menders" who are associated with fixing those breaks. In this, they are also directly linked to Mnemo-Li (aka Memory), another feminine deity who is the keeper of the Elder Scrolls, and the one responsible for writing and editing them in accordance with the actions of mortals every Dragon Break. She does this with the help of lesser spirits, mnemolia, who are also called Digitals (after "digit", as the one time they are portrayed they look like floating spectral hands, a la "ghostwriters") - which may actually be another name for Jills.

The reason for the "gender" divide is something of a... idk, benevolent sexism? that is present in much of TES metaphysics on account of it borrowing from occult tradition which has a lot of motifs regarding gender (see also Vivec being called the "divine hermaphrodite", referencing one of the terms for the Philosopher's Stone representing godhood; or Lorkhan being said to represent the duality of anima/animus, the feminine and masculine aspects of the psyche as per Jung). By MK's own admission, he falls into the trope of "all men are ugly brutes, all women are wise and beautiful" - and once you start noticing it you kinda can't stop. Jills are just another expression of that, being the "dragons greater than dragons" who mend time rather than break it, wrestling down their more unruly brethren to comply with the Time God's law.

All that yapping aside, I guess the bottom line of what I'm trying to say is, Jills are only "female" because of weird sex magic metaphor reasons. Dragons are still sexless and genderless. So, I personally ignore that aspect of them entirely.

However ☝️ I really enjoy the concept of a kind of spirit that normally exists only outside of linear time, dedicated to mending and stitching together the different invisible breaks and tears in time's fabric to ensure the world never notices the inconsistencies, which also means that:

When you are able to see them, they appear as gargantuan ephemeral dragons with a very Ezekiel "biblically accurate" angel type of vibe, like they are primordial beings that don't really have a physical form and what you're perceiving is just your brain attempting to compensate for seeing the invisible.

If you are seeing them, then something is going very, very wrong, and your memory - if not your very existence - is likely going to be redacted to preserve the illusion of reality.

Sooo yeah? idk, throwing out the baby with the bathwater. I just think they're neat.
