So I put on a tumblr/Fanfiction themed burlesque show last May and I wanted to share one of the numbers i did. It is to a re-arrangment of this parody (I ship it by not literally productions), to be a little more palatable to people outside of fandom. It is a number about "writing" Kirk/Spock Star trek AOS fanfiction. Featuring Tommy Tease as Kirk, Queer Anne's Revenge as Spock and me Miss Isley Can Tease Ya as the author. You might have seen photos of the pasties I made for the number (they went viral on instagram), or the fanfic dress i made as well. The show was in Tucson Arizona, held at the Splinter Collective (An awesome queer owned, anti-capitalist non-profit group/Venue) and is booked again for Next February , so if you are in the area make sure to come out for it. I will be posting links to other numbers form this, including an amazing Onceler act by Tommy Tease in the future. I love that Bryan Fuller wrote this part for Mads and said, 'I have tortured this man enough. No more three-piece suits; I will give him all the athleisure wear and stunt scenes he deserves, but I will serve them up to him á la Fuller, whimsical and demented and embellishments galore!'

The whole movie is like that, a perfect fit for these two but also something new. At the Q&A Bryan cited Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro's The City of Lost Children as a reference point and that is so on the money for Dust Bunny. It's a dark fairy tale, starry-eyed enough that even kids can see it provided said kids don't flinch at the idea of assisting hit man Mads Mikkelsen as he carves up a dead body in a bathtub and stuffs it into adorable panda-themed luggage. Sigourney Weaver shows up and almost steals the movie out from everybody; mother is EATING. Like any Fuller joint, the aesthetic is off-the-rails, like if somebody took the sets from Amélie and made a wuxia movie with them. So many fun split diopter shots and nods to classic horror, wackadoodle fight choreography that often involves Mads barefoot climbing walls, and a delightfully designed monster with actual tactility on screen.

*bangs drum* Go see! Go see! December 12 in theaters, go see!

Look, we all know this is true. But there isn't a SOURCE for this, and the graph itself is basically illegible beyond "ooh colors". If we want to be good stewards of our informational resources, we need to cite our sources.

From a reverse image search, I found the website Show Your Stripes, run by the University of Reading in the UK, which is likely where the above graph originated. It provides temperature data for various regions of the world from approximately 1900-2025. For example, here are graphs for Canada, India, and Papua New Guinea:

All clearly show a sharp rise in temperature beginning around approximately the 1980s, which corresponds with the graph in OP's post. But now we know where this data came from, and we can verify its validity accordingly.

the thing about media literacy is that understanding why the author chose to specify that the curtains are blue is the same skill set as understanding that the way the author characterizes all black characters as angry or all chinese characters as meek and silent is racist. it is the same skill set as being able to identify when a news source is biased or when someone is feeding you propaganda. the ability to ask "why did this person choose to present this premise in this specific way?" is a critical skill in a world full of misinformation. why are the curtains blue? maybe it's a characterization detail. maybe it's extraneous worldbuilding. why is this character written as being right all the time? maybe you're intended to disagree with them. maybe it doesn't matter. maybe you should still ask why.

I was in Mormon brain jail concurrently to when Elizabeth Smart was kidnapped and held, as it turned out, like 20 miles away from us. We would see billboards when we were driving past in our big white institution van, and we would see magazines in the checkout aisle, on the rare occasions we were allowed to enter shops accompanied, about Elizabeth Smart being held somewhere by some guy. This teenage girl who had been kidnapped and brainwashed and held basically in the next valley over. I don't remember how long she was with him, but this was when everyone was freshly looking for her and panicking about how she had been abducted and was being held against her will and brainwashed. Her picture was EVERYWHERE.

So. Imagine dozens of other teenage girls, being held against their will and brainwashed in Utah, seeing these billboards and going, "huh. I'm having a complicated emotional reaction to all of this. It's possible that I might unpack that in two to three decades."

Both of these situations arise from the same societal attitudes. This guy wanted a teenage girl to be trapped with him and unable to leave, regardless of her feelings on the matter, and for her to act a certain way and comply with his desires. He took her from her home and forced her to be somewhere she did not want to be and would not let her go, and he tried to turn her into a different thing. The difference in societal reactions to when one specific, unauthorized guy does this, compared to when someone's parents pay a fancy sounding institution to do it for them, tells you a lot about how we think about the autonomy of teenage girls.

In Utah, the reason these types of institutions are allowed is because their youth rights laws are abysmal even compared to the rest of the US. Children aren't people, they're the property of their parents. Elizabeth Smart's parents didn't want her to be kidnapped, so it was bad. Our parents did want us to be kidnapped, so it was fine.

Elizabeth Smart’s kidnapper’s crime was that he didn’t go through the established system for kidnapping and brainwashing teenage girls. This is not even a little bit hyperbolic.

🚨 Scam Breakdown: The "Urgent Concern" Inbox Bait

So, I just got a message in my inbox, and I wanted to speak up about this.

"Hello, I regret reaching out this way. I have an urgent concern to share and cannot do so here please contact me via direct message."

Do not reply. Block and report immediately these types of accounts immediately.

Why is this a scam?

It uses emotional words ("regret," "urgent") to panic you into responding without thinking.

It gives zero context on purpose. They want you to drop your guard and ask what's wrong.

Once you message them, they typically launch into a fake copyright extortion attempt, a phishing link to steal your login info, or an elaborate sob story asking for money.

If someone actually has a legitimate issue or business inquiry, they will state it upfront. Real organizations and genuine users do not send cryptic, panicked messages asking to move to private channels without giving any context.
