[id: a gifset and accompanying quote, paralleling the strengths between Katara and Aang.

Katara sits on a pier, kicking her feet in the water. She seems…pensive, upset. Aang is similarily hunched over, and looks worriedly towards the viewer. The quote begins, “Which brings us back to the Hero’s shoulders, and the gentleness that comes,” Katara and Aang are shown hugging, first among the blue palette of Katara’s water tribe colors, and the next in the orange desert of Aang’s airbender’s palette. 

However, the story pivots. The fire nation is shown, marching forward, soot mixed in the snow falling on the water tribe. Juxtaposed next to them are all of the murdered Airbenders from Aangs childhood, only kept in Aang’s memories.

“Not from the absence of violence,” the quote continues. Katara, holding immense power at the man who murdered her mother, releases it, lowering her hands in mercy. Aang, similarily, wills himself out of the Avatar state, refusing to make that killing blow. The quote finishes, “but despite the abundance of it.”

I’m also trying to understand why they cast a Korean actress when the etymology of and the mythologies related to the name “Nagini” have South Asian origins??? And don’t get me wrong, it would still be extremely problematic even if they cast an Indian (or South Asian in general) actress, but this is just baffling to me. JK Rowling was very adamant about the movies hiring British actors for the original series, but suddenly things like that don’t matter for this role even though she definitely did the research when she named Nagini. Another instance of her being disrespectful to mythologies and religions of non-white cultures. smfh
