...Anyway, I created a Userscript for the Chrome/Firefox Stylus Extension that reverts the new dashboard to the old format. This took a lot of tweaking and it's not perfect at all, but if anyone wants it I'll be uploading it soonish!
EDIT:
A fix for the new Tumblr dashboard! If you don't want the sticky header you can remove the labelled script at the bottom of the css below /*
You need to have Stylus installed. So if you don't have it:
Install the Stylus Firefox Addon or the Chrome Extension
Once it's installed into Firefox/Chrome you can proceed with adding this style or any other.
To add the style, follow the instructions:
Go to this link: https://userstyles.world/style/11023/old-tumblr-dashboard-july-2023
Click on "install".
Style will open a tag with it and in the left side you'll have a button that says "install style", click there.
(Copied from the lovely dorothyoz39 who wrote this in a reply)
If you don't want the sticky header you can remove the labelled script at the top of the css below /* Sticky Header*/
If you experience any bugs let me know, I did my best with what I had - feel free to edit it yourself too! It's not perfect but it looks mostly normal!
Be sure to check for updates, I'm fixing things as I go! To update click the Manage button on Stylus and click the check for update button below!
Check under the cut for the changelog and known issues!

EDIT: Might take longer than I thought ugh, will update when I can upload
EDIT 2: Version 1 is done, I might tweak it in the future cause there's still a few buggy parts
Edit: Ended up fixing the dropdown menus. I'll probably tweak any issues I find as I use this and make sure to update the userstyle so be sure to check for updates occasionally.
Remember you need the Stylus Chrome/Firefox Extension for this to work! I haven't fully tested it with Stylish but it should also work with that extension if you already have it installed
Edit (21/07): Fixed another thing I broke (search bar disappearing) and made the Account Menu look a little more like it used to
Edit (23/07 2:25AM UK time): Possibly solved the menus not closing when you click away - this may add some bugs, message me with any problems! Also moved the /*Sticky Header*/ option to the top so it's easier to find and remove!
Edit.5: (WHOOPS) Forgot to fix the sticky header. All good now!
Known issues:
The activity count in the Accounts Menu is blue (it uses the same code as the header buttons notifications) for some reason, still trying to figure out how to make it match the rest of them.
The search bar moves out of place on bigger monitors when not using the sticky header. You can adjust its position yourself under "/*Moves the search bar*/" by changing the "Left" numbers. I can't think of a way around that just yet without adjusting it yourself!
Search bar doesn't appear on some pages (like viewing a post), this is because Tumblr removed the search bar on those pages completely. Unfixable!
Post button disappears on very small monitors! (1 person with this issue so far) Might be hard for me to replicate and fix without messing with regular-size monitors - My recommendation if you are having issues with smaller monitors, is to adjust the labelled numbers (Left, Right, Top: [Value]) for the issue you're having in the code!
Solved issues: (Update)
Menus need to be manually closed I'm not sure how to fix this one, it might not be actually possible as I don't THINK I can add javascript to CSS in Stylus. SOLVED! in V.4 - Let me know if there's any issues!
The menu & icon WILL scroll with you if you have removed the sticky header CSS, however, clicking anywhere on screen will make the Menu disappear still.
DISCLAIMER: If you remove any of the header icons with Ublock the icon itself will disappear off screen or overlap with other icons. This is just cosmetic, as soon as you click elsewhere the Menu will still close. If you want to fix this adjust the 'right: 280px' and 'Right: 333px' values until the icons are back in place. (Search for "Ublock" in the CSS and both are labelled)
so far I’m loving this one! the only issue i’m having is that my search results are... um. funky
i have a pretty wide screen so it’s possibly just me or something I uBlocked(though I did go through my filter list and couldn’t find anything causing it), but I also couldn’t find any post spacing settings to fiddle with in the script :(
on the topic of uBlock, anyone know how to zap these things without killing any other icons besides them? figured this one out!
Something I haven’t seen discussed as often when people talk about Tumblr’s usability issues:
Why does blog view not have hard-coded page numbers?
Part of the joy of Tumblr is that if you really enjoy someone’s blog, it can feed you for days. Years’ worth of goodies they posted, found and reblogged over the years, some at risk of being lost to time if you hadn’t stumbled across them again... It fosters this sense of exploration, like a “what’ll I find next?!” type of attitude that makes you keep on scrolling. And if you have to take a break, you can always go back to (theirblog).tumblr.com/page/134 and continue where you left off.
But with blog view... you can’t. There are no page numbers. If you hit next page, the URL doesn’t change, and Tumblr doesn’t remember where you left off. One accidental refresh, one browser crash, one Windows update, one misclick, and you’re back to page one, even if you were hundreds of pages in. How deep were you? Where did you leave off? Unless you want to brave the archive, you’ll never know(and the archive won’t help you get back on track). It’s honestly easier to just give up and find another blog to scroll through.
The sad part is I don’t even necessarily hate blog view; it can be a bit more sleek than some cluttered custom themes(even though I love custom themes!) and personally I think it makes finding tags easier. But web view isn’t on by default anymore, so a lot of newer blogs just. Don’t have page numbers. it feels like you aren’t supposed to spend time looking through people’s blogs anymore. On the spend time looking through people’s blogs website.
That sucks :/
(image ID: the blog view version of the original poster’s blog. The URL has been manually changed to include a page number, and reads “tumblr.com/ebay-taxidermy/page/4″. OP’s blog contains more than four pages, but pages are not supported in blog view, so an error message “You’re too late. This post is no more.” is displayed.)
for a while there i was sympathetic to tumblr because of how much they’re in debt; i was kind of like “well of course they’re absolutely desperate for new users, they literally need the money or else tumblr goes down forever”. and then suddenly today it hit me that there’s actually no fucking reason for that debt to be causing these ui changes? the userbase has been INCREDIBLY clear about what they want from tumblr over the years, not to mention clear about the fact that even twitter people don’t need this place to look like twitter. it actually would be very… EASY? for them to just make changes in a direction people would actually be HAPPY with?
for fuck’s sake there were people trying to organize a “crab day” for tumblr despite tumblr doing nothing but telling us to go fuck ourselves for months on end. there were people spending hundreds of dollars on check marks just for the glee of MAKING FUN of twitter. can you IMAGINE how much money this userbase would donate to tumblr if they actually made ui updates geared toward what people have been asking for?
if tumblr actually crowdsourced ideas or even just LISTENED to their userbase it may have been possible for them to make way more money than they’re begging for now, they just insist on trying to drive their actual demographic and loyal userbase out for literally no reason
when a fictional couple is like “man who has never had a serious lover, has devoted his life to his people or cause, does not know how to flirt” and “woman who is absolutely unhinged levels of desire for him” though. let HER push HIM up against the wall while HE bluescreens. gender roles? No
I CAN’T BELIEVE IT!!!! On this day last year, the Galactic Starcruiser debuted.
Our lives were never the same after 😬
I’m terrible at remembering dates so I turned my utter shock into a meme 😂
Speaking of dates, I had watched the media previews back in… late February last year. Before the official launch. And thought—hey, wait a second. I actually want to do this. I don’t know if I can (budgeting and shyness aside), but these characters are amazing and I’m hooked on the story.
The armchair cruising started from there, then the decision to start this blog… and the rest, as they say, is history.
Here’s to a full year of cruising! And I’m raising my metaphorical glass to many, many more.
