You do not understand how the saints in Heaven can hear us when we pray to them? But how do the rays of the sun come down from the sky to illuminate the whole world? The saints are the same thing in the spiritual world as the rays of sun are in the physical. God is the eternal, life-giving Sun, and the saints are the rays of this spiritual Sun. Since the eyes of the Lord constantly gaze at the earth and its creatures, the eyes of the saints cannot but turn in the same direction as the providential gaze of the Lord of creation at the treasures of their heart (their bodies, works, holy places, and people devoted to them). "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matt 6:21). You know how quickly, how far, and how clearly the heart can see (especially objects of the spiritual world); you notice this is in all sciences, especially in the spiritual ones, where much is learned by faith only (i.e., through the eyes of the heart). The heart is the eye of human existence. The purer it is, the quicker, father, and clearer it can see. But God's saints have refined this spiritual eye, even during their lifetime, to the highest degree of purity possible for mankind, and after their death, when they have become united with God, through God's grace the limits of this vision become even more expansive. his is why the saints see very clearly, widely, and far; this is how they see our spiritual needs. They see and hear all those who call on them with their whole hearts--that is, those whose spiritual eyes are fixed straight upon them, undimmed by doubt. In other words, the eyes of the heart of those who pray meet the eyes, so to speak, of those to whom they pray. This is a mysterious vision! Those who have experienced this will understand what I am saying. This is why it is so easy to communicate with the saints! it is only necessary to purify the eye of the heart, to fix it firmly on a saint that you revere, to pray to him for what you desire, and you will receive it. What is God in reference to sight? He is all sight, all light, all knowledge. He is everywhere present, both in Heaven and on earth, and He sees everything in every place. "The eyes of the Lord are in every place, Keeping watch on the evil and the good." (Prov 15:3).
