I have an idea for how to entice more people to go for trains: allow for wealthy people to buy and kit out their own private train cars. Imagine: offer for sale, for the price of a house or two, a train car. You can customise it how you like, you can staff it with a personal chef and wait staff, you can have a little office or a bedroom, your own private bathroom, and all the rich people's train cars go like towards the front of the train and maybe they even have their own special boarding platforms or something.
Then they have to pay to have their car hooked onto the train and pay to have it towed, and the rest of us get to have trains.
Already I can see some potential snags, but overall I am confident this could work.
actually I think this post is good without tags, thanks
Amtrak still actually supports this!

NEW YORK (AP) — New York Attorney General Letitia James on Monday told hospitals that they would be violating state law if they stop offering gender-affirming care for people under age 19 in response to an executive order from President Donald Trump aimed at curtailing federal funding for such treatments.
In a letter, James, a Democrat, told health care facilities that refusing to provide the treatments would violate New York’s anti-discrimination laws.
“Regardless of the availability of federal funding, we write to further remind you of your obligations to comply with New York State laws,” her letter reads.
Everyone say thank you to NY Attorney General Letitia James!!!

“But why should we have to be useful and for what reason? Who divided the world into useless and useful, and by what right? Does a thistle have no right to life, or a Mouse that eats the grain in a warehouse? What about Bees and Drones, weeds and roses? Whose intellect can have had the audacity to judge who is better, and who worse? A large tree, crooked and full of holes, survives for centuries without being cut down, because nothing could possibly be made out of it. This example should raise the spirits of people like us. Everyone knows the profit to be reaped from the useful, but nobody knows the benefit to be gained from the useless.”

Not telling your kid they have a learning disability, chronic illness, mental illness etc. so they can “feel normal” actually does the opposite. They will not feel normal if they do not have the context to understand that their normal will be different from that of their peers.
The amount of times I’ve heard a parent say something like “I’m just not going to tell my son he has ADHD, I want him to feel normal.” HE DOES NOT. HE DOES NOT FEEL NORMAL. HE IS WONDERING WHY HE IS STRUGGLING AND COMING TO THE CONCLUSION HE IS AN IRREDEEMABLE FAILURE.
Hey, just so you know this applies to physical disabilities too. Not calling something a disability will not make the child struggle less, bit it will invalidate all feeling of suffering and needing help as just not trying hard enough.
and i don’t even like staying up this late i just do it
Need this as my ringtone
i think we've done a great job expanding the view of what a child's favorite animal can be. kids these days can say they love axolotls or pangolins or coelecanths and their decision is respected. maybe their parents can even find them a stuffed animal of it if they know where to look. and i think that's beautiful
“There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”
— Isaac Asimov (via patrickjoust)
