The Ides of March coin
Known as the EID MAR, is a coin minted between 43 and 42 BC to celebrate the assassination of Julius Caesar. On the reverse are the symbols: Phrygian/Liberty Cap (Latin: pileus, symbol of the Dioscuri, the liberators of Rome), two daggers, and EID MAR (short for Eidibus Martiis – on the Ides of March)
Cassius Dio (History of Rome XLVII 25.3.) mentions this coin: "Brutus had on the coins his own image and a cap and the two daggers and with the inscription that he and Cassius had liberated the fatherland".
"An augur had warned Caesar of the danger that threatened him on the Ides of March. And that day when Caesar found the augur , ,laughingly said : « The Ides of March have already arrived »'; to which the augur compassionately replied: « Yes, but they are not over yet. » (Plutarch).
The coin was minted in both silver and gold. Gold examples are displayed at the British Museum. It's considered one of the rarest ancient Roman coins.
Not to brag or anything but I’m Italian and I live in Rome and today they performed Julius Caesar on the literal ruins of the Curia of Pompey. aka the exact place where Caesar got absolutely wrecked in 44 BCE. on the anniversary of him getting absolutely wrecked 💅

I don’t know of the original poster might not be aware
but!
if you’ve been a victim of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking, you can enroll into the address confidentiality program (free of cost!) and be registered to vote as an absentee voter and your name and address will not be made available for the public
it is super easy to get enrolled - the application takes like 5 minutes, but it has to be with someone who is certified to do it (most likely an advocate! try going to a family justice center in your area or calling the Attorney Generals office in your area!!!!)
ALSO :
you don’t need to have any police reports or have a protection order to qualify!!! you just have to sign stating that you’ve been a victim of one of the aforementioned crimes.

You probably won't be shocked to hear that skiing has ancient origins in Scandinavia and in the Altai region of Siberia. There are references in Norse mythology to the gods Ullr and Skadi moving on skis.
The oldest pictorial reference to skiing on rock art both in Norway and in Russia, dating back to 4000-3000 BCE. Preserved primitive skis have been found in bogs and glaciers in Norway, Sweden, and Russia.
(read the article here)
The oldest written reference to skiing comes from the Western Han Dynasty in China, ca. 225-104 BCE. It was mostly used for travel across long distances.
Skiing as a sport, however, emerged with the industrial revolution and the development of the leisure class. The first official skiing race to be published in a newspaper was in Tromsø, Norway, in 1843, and the first ski clubs formed in the 1860s.
Ski wear was pretty much the same as other winter outdoors wear. It was made of heavy wool, in plain colors, and women wore long skirts.

Vice President JD Vance gets roundly booed at the opening ceremony of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympics. "Those are a lot of boos for him, whistling jeering," says the presenter. US athletes receive a warm welcome from fans, though.

Vaccines were the answer to a mother's prayer. They SAVE LIVES. Fuck this anti-vaccine movement and the people propounding it.
I believe that anti-vaxxers exists because people forgot what happens when diseases are spreading.
This was polio:
This was smallpox:
And those are the consequences of measles:
My parents were vaccinated against smallpox. I wasn't. You know why? Because we eradicated that virus through mass vaccination campaigns.
We could have probably done the same with measles but someone got scared (if I remember we'll one batch of measesl wasn't properly deactivated but was promptly resolved) and started listening to anti-vaxxer propaganda (like with the autism "thing").
This is the situation in the USA, btw:
So, please, get your vaccinations done.

Tumblr users these days, putting up the Ides of March decorations earlier every year.
stop spreading despair and nihilism
stop buying into the idea that nonviolent activism is useless, rather than (by far) the most effective form of protest
stop falsely claiming that BLM accomplished nothing and that most citizens “don’t care” when people are murdered by the state
start understanding that most of your neighbors care about your rights, and their own
start noticing that most people are moved by injustice, including against people who look nothing like them
The pushback against ICE exposed a series of mistaken assumptions.

Masked, armored, and armed to the teeth, and they're afraid of people blowing whistles at them. link to post
Can't believe the Trump administration is going to use tax payer money to take ICE agents on what is basically a school trip abroad.
What ICE could do is what scares me mostly.
They could be a sign that Orange(Nazi) is the new black(Nazi).
They could tell athletes ICE would deport their loved ones if they failed.
ICE could foment whoever is dumb enough to fall for fascist and nazi propaganda (unfortunately in Italy we still have too many idioti).
ICE could stop athletes (who are scared about US politics) and their families from asking for asylum to Italy and/or Europe.
They could shut up every athlete who wants to speak against Trump and his administration.
Tell me they don't want to avoid this:
They could say (if nothing bad happens) ICE is good and protesters are BAD.
They could put pressures on sportive judges (or plain cheat) to have American athletes win (don't tell me that's something below those enforcers).
ICE could do a lot of damage in a couple of weeks.
I wish the only ice I'll see at this Olympic Games will be the ice rinks for the athletes to perform their best and in our cheerful aperitivi but I fear that won't be like that.
why don't you do arts and crafts for 5 hours and then you'll calm down
Well, I would do that but i have 30 minutes...
...will it work?
They sent ICE to Italy
U.S. Homeland Security agents provided security support at past Olympics. But after violence by ICE agents in Minneapolis, some Italian offi
This is bad.
Really bad.
If Italy let this happen it will be a downfall for every country in the world. Trump will use ICE as his personal militia of "guard dogs", probably mostly unqualified and/or questionable people.
What happens when you do minimal screening before hiring agents, arming them, and sending them into the streets? We're all finding out.
And Trump will feel justified in using his watchdogs because nobody stopped him and his entourage.
And, to be honest, unfortunately in Italy we already have enough fascists and nazis, like CasaPound and some politicians.
Tajani, one of those politicians, Is saying "It's not like these are the [ICE] people on the streets of Minneapolis": unfortunately for him, we don't have any guarantee about that. That... (*deep breaths*) ...man also added: "It's not like the SS are about to arrive". Are you sure, Tajani? What makes you think ICE are different? Have you seen how they work? Do you remember history?
Seriously, now we have Iranian special police coming too at those Olympics. This is going to be one of the most police-Olympics ever if our government doesn't do anything. Even Meloni, our premier, hasn't said anything yet, I believe.
‘A militia that kills’: uproar in Italy over ICE security role at Winter Olympics
Milan’s mayor says agents ’not welcome’ in co-host city and that Italy can take care of security itself
Milan’s mayor says agents’not welcome’ in co-host city and that Italy can take care of security itself
Honest to god, i would see it as an act of aggression against europe and nato if ICE showed up in milan. They have absolutely no business there. What could they even enforce.
On top of that, ICE have two defining characteristics
1) they are extraordinarily violent
2) they are extraordinarily stupid.
If they show up in europe, there WILL be massive protests. And because they are extraordinarily stupid, they will not realise that their fascist dicktator daddy cant protect them here.
They will act like the lawless thugs they are and someone will get hurt.
But here, there will be consequences
Unfortunately, despite what we should learn from school, there are still too many fascists and nazi in Italy and there will be many who'd gladly cover ICE asses if they mess up.
Salvini could be one of them: that guy is notorious for being a arse licker (or a brown noser) to every dictator wannabe (Putin, Trump, ...).
About ICE agents coming to Milan, Tajani (Foreign Minister, right wing side) said that "It’s not like the SS are coming". Unfortunately for him, I see too many similarities between those two "organizations".
Giuseppe Sala, the left-wing mayor of Milan, instead has openly said he doesn't want ICE: “This is a militia that kills… They are not welcome in Milan, there’s no doubt about it,”
