Today was super fun endoscopy day. Nothing makes me feel quite as silly as sedation. I asked to hold the nurses hand because I was nervous. She was so kind and obliged. Then afterward I told Daniel about part of the procedure and said, "Wow, I had a dream I told you all that." He said, "Yeah, you actually already told me that." Pretty awesome.

Blargh. I feel like puking.

Man it really tickles me how many years women were banned from fighting in the military and now men are turning around and blaming the fact that only men have to register for the draft on feminists
Like??? Buddy…
You’re never gonna believe who set that system up

I’m gonna make myself feel old, but reblog with your high school graduating class.
Class of 2007.
Class of 2012.
Class of 2005.
2008!
2011!
2001. Oh no.
Babies, most of you.
2004
2000. I’m so old.
Uh. 1998. Geez.
1998 for me, too.
1998. Represent. Buncha babies all these other people are.
Nothing quite like going to the Dr for a problem only to find out you probably have a whole other problem in addition to the first. And "oh yeah, I guess that does explain the pain I have been having for a while now..." Anyway, nothing particularly life-threatening, but I do get to have lots of tests. Woo hoo. I was always good at tests.
All the dishes in my kitchen are done! And replies are back. Win-win!
Some of you who are raising boys should probably be warned of what I've advised my daughter to do if someone snaps her bra.
“Dear parents of boys who may be in class with my daughter:
Middle school, huh? Whew! What a ride. I know that some of your kids are giving you one-word answers to “How was your day?” and I feel your pain.
As the mother of a communicative girl, I can tell you that things like bra-snapping and skirt-pulling have officially started (remember those?). I thought that you deserved a heads-up, out of respect, that I told my daughter exactly what she should do if your son ever snaps her bra in school.
She should punch him in the throat.
I realize this probably violates the school’s zero-tolerance policy for violence. I get it that she will likely be the one who is sent down to the principal’s office and disciplined. I might be getting a phone call, and they may even ask me to come in for a meeting. I have told her there is a possibility of detention or even suspension, and that there may be little I can do to defend her.
I have also told her it is still the right thing to do.
During said phone call or meeting, I will tell the school staff, “You do what you have to do.” I realize that they have rules, and rules must be followed.
I am teaching my children that we are not special snowflakes who are exceptions to the rules. But I assure you, I will be taking my daughter out for a hot fudge sundae that night, because I am also teaching them that defending themselves is a life skill that no one can take from them.
If you have not invited another person to put their hands on your underwear, and they do it to embarrass you in public, then you need to shut that shit down.
Now, you may not like the idea of your sweet little boy getting punched in the throat. I can totally relate to that, being a mother of a boy myself (please refer to the next letter).
If the idea of a throat punch upsets you, I suggest that you take the following precaution: Teach him to not grab a girl’s bra in school.
Go ahead and include underpants, just to be sure. If he thinks it’s funny to be groping at underclothing he can’t see, and/or pulling up or down anyone’s skirts or pants to embarrass them, then you have been warned that he might be getting a throat punch.
OK? Good talk.”
——
No person of any gender should touch the body or underclothes of another person without consent (unless life and limb are at risk, i.e. : pulling someone from a burning building). End of.
Because too many forces in my society try to pressure girls into remaining non-violent, submissive, etc., and because we STILL hear garbage like “boys will be boys” and “he just wants your attention,” it is important to make this point especially to young girls.
TL;DR - If your kid lays hurtful or inappropriate hands on my daughter, my daughter will will retaliate with considerable force.
Thank you, @the_dza, for finding this 😘 Also, thank you for putting up with my Hamilton obsession.
Happy 79th Birthday, Valentina Tereshkova!
A Russian cosmonaut who was the first woman and first civilian in space. In 1963, at the age of 26, she spent 3 days in space, orbiting the Earth 48 times.
She later held a prominent role in Soviet politics, and among many other honors, has an asteroid named after her.
Now in her 70s, she has expressed a desire to travel to Mars.
Russia put a woman in space 20 years before the US. TWENTY YEARS.
Valentina Tereshkova is a total bad ass.
Farm Up 2016
Friday night is probably the worst time to post this, but I’m gonna go ahead and try anyway.
You may have heard, @monkeyfrog is letting us crash her farm for a weekend in April, and you may have seen that I’m making a giveaway for those that can make it.
But I’m also running a fundraiser for those that can - and can not - make it to help cover the costs of hosting all of us. I’m doing this because I earn an entire living based on the fact that running events is hard work and people need help. Now @monkeyfrog would absolutely never ask for help, and in fact is probably a little weirded out that I set it up, but the good people of the internet over-ruled her and donations have come in. Check it out at https://www.gofundme.com/farmup2016
And here’s the Friday Night Kicker - for anyone that wants to chip in but can not make it to the Farm and is willing to send me their address I will mail you a FarmUp Coaster of your very own.
Because by chipping in you ARE a part of Farm Up and you should get toys too. This goes for you fabulous folks already in so @coyotesqrl and @embracethelost, send me your address if you want one.
Now, caveat, I am not a professional crafter of any kind. I make these for fun so they may be a little off center, have finger prints in them, and possibly your beer glass / coffee mug might stick every once in awhile. But they are fun*, and a one shot deal, cause I’m not making 50+ coasters in one run ever again.
Reblog far and wide if you can (I’m looking at you Cary Jo), my reach is small, but your networks are mighty.
*Also the Hamilton Soundtrack is infused in each one as well if that’s your thing.
Make it happen, people!
Everyone, give a little or a lot! Give your time, money, good juju, whatever you have. These are the best Internet people. And @monkeyfrog is just amazing!
WARNING
Next week is Bi Visibility week. That means that next week you will be able to see bi-people.
I know. It’s going to be a huge shock. Suddenly all of these people will just suddenly appear. Do not panic. This will only occur for one week and then they will go back to their invisible state and you can continue to call them ‘just a phase’ and ‘attention seekers’ and ‘fakers’. Do not scream when you see a bisexual suddenly appear. This will startle them. Bisexuals might desire to enter LGBTQ+ spaces, stating that they are part of the community and are “not straight” and are “what the B stands for”. While we all know the B stands for bacon, just play along with the bisexuals for the week.
