i wanted to feel loved without feeling like i was begging for it
It’s kind of sad that this sheep is far more photogenic than I’ll ever be😭😂
Anyway if you’re from the US and you ever wanted to know what tumblr feels like from a non-USAmerican perspective (please note that the rest of the world is not a monolith either and none of these apply without exception):
Everybody’s talking about brands and stores you’ve never seen in real life. You generally assume they exist, but they might as well be one giant prank the rest of the internet is in on.
You find a post that just sounds wrong. It makes no sense. It’s like OP lives in a weird alternate reality. 9/10 times, it’s just some USAmerican Thing.
You’re still not entirely sure how much an inch is. Or a foot. Or even how many of the former there are in the latter. You maybe know your height in feet and inches.
You have no idea how much a pound is. You’d also like to know how the fuck pound shortens to lbs.
What the fuck is “military time”
Somebody talks about some legal process or something similar. They don’t mention which country’s legal system this pertains to. You know anyway.
People talk about politics. None of it pertains to you. Many posts contain guilt tripping. “How can you not care about this?? Why won’t you reblog this?? People need to know this about x candidate for y position!” You’re busy trying to stay on top of the political landscape in your own country.
You pick up some random slang from the internet. Monkey see monkey do. You’re called racist. You didn’t know it was AAVE. You learnt it from black letters on white background, not from the mouths of people whose faces you could see. How would you have known? You try to unlearn it.
People tell you that you must publicly denounce Chick-fil-A or you’re homophobic. You don’t even know what a Chick-fil-A is.
People say you don’t know LGBTQ+ history. What they mean is you don’t know USAmerican LGBTQ+ history. Nobody cares about your country’s history.
You’re “called out” on using an “offensive” term. It’s (a direct translation of) a completely harmless word where you live.
People expect you to have an idea of how far apart 2 USAmerican states are. You barely know geography past your country’s immediate neighbors.
You randomly switch between British and American spellings. Nothing’s real and there are no rules.
People talk about multiple hour car rides and you get twitchy just thinking about it. You suddenly understand why USAmerican cars are so big.
Somebody talks about school shooting drills. You only ever had fire alarm drills.
You see a cool statistic. The study’s only about the US. It’s unfortunately of no use to you.
People misuse/misspell words and names from your native language. It’s tiring.
(You feel sorry for the French. Nobody should be allowed to mangle the word déjà vu like that.)
You’re still not over the fact that USAmerican school children are supposed to say that pledge thing every morning. You’re never getting over that.
You still don’t know why the men are fresh or what the fuck a sophomore is.
Who the fuck pays up first and then fills up gas??? That’s made up, right??
Everybody has a weird obsession with some comfort food you’d never even heard of before you signed up here.
Fellow non-USAmericans, please add anything else you can think of.
Some of these may only apply to me, but:
Every time people talk about healthcare or workers’ rights, you want to cry.
“Christian” is shorthand for “Evangelical Protestant”.
When people make cracks about how tiny European countries are, you want to bring up your own as a counter-example… but then you remember you’ve never even seen most of it.
“Why would [person with a doctorate] from [X country] know how to speak English?”
“That’s not your real accent, is it?”
People using African-American and Black as synonyms.
People who have never been to your home town trying to convince you that it’s a warzone. (Okay, this one is mostly Facebook.)
“I would love to study a second language!” You have studied seven. The only one you can carry a conversation in is the one that’s used in all the movies.
You’re not sure who the “Founding Fathers” of your country would even be.
You’ve never been forced to read any of the classics people mention, and haven’t even heard of some of them.
Apparently a child can cope with seeing a lot of violence, but may only hear the word “fuck” once in two hours. You have no idea how to navigate that mental landscape.
Way too relatable…
Also
“Oh my god how can you not know this song/film/show it’s a classic”
First time seeing people asking for money online for things such as medical treatments or bills
How tf does college work how is it different from university still don’t know
Grammar? I mean I remember some rules
Having a vague understanding of some terms but enough to use them (I hope)
What the actual fuck is your voting system
Ok so this state is shit but why do we hate it?
Where is this meme from/why is this a meme? But I guess it’s funny (I’m still confused about the Robert B. Weide meme)
What time is 8/7c?????
You are deeply disturbed by the concept of credit score and how apparently it controls virtually every single aspect of American existence even to getting getting a job or an apartment
You don’t understand how Americans don’t have National ID cards. In your country it’s virtually impossible to get anything done without a National ID card
You still don’t get the point of primaries since in yours and virtually every other country you know the party chooses it’s own candidate
You don’t get the concept of schools having their own school buses which pick up kids from home
You are used to landlords being people who inherited a second apartment and are renting it for extra cash.In the USA landlords are apparently people who own entire buildings and even entire corporations who own multiple buildings
Why on Earth don’t they allow cashiers to sit down in the USA?
People post aesthetic photos of your city but do not know your country exists
You don’t understand why are tips being considered a part of the paycheck
You see people making fun of a ads on prescription medication. Ads on prescription medications are illegal in your country.
You thought names like West, Destiny, or Storm are nicknames or a pseudonyms, because in your country you can give children only actual given names with prescribed spellings
You have no idea what a sorority or a fraternity is supposed to be and at this point are too afraid to ask
You understand 9/11 is a touchy subject, but while undestanding the significance, are not sure, why Americans react to it so strongly still
Then you realize it was a safety shock because the last war fought on american soil was in the 18. century. You think of all the times an old WW2 bomb, or mine was randomly found in some field, or construction site and the new buildings you know stand on a war ruin with surreal feeling
You see absolutely enourmous portions of food and drink. Your inner US thing detector fires up. You don’t question it anymore
You read about “anecdotic” stories that go: “Fortunately i managed to wake up in time to stop people from calling an ambulance” and try to understand why would you not want to call and ambulance after an accident
You try not to involve yourself on political US discussions anyore because you learned through error that the american spectrum of the Left und Right is so staggeringly different from the one in your country that you do not even know how to even begin with trying to align your views with each of them
Re-reading a sentence in confusion only to find out people really do, in fact, normally buy medicine in a hypermarket along with their gorceries
You see a video of someone heading at a speed towards a wall. You cringe in horror and anticipation of a painful impact only for them to make a hole. In the wall. Houses in your country are built from brick, stone and concrete
Being thrust into a sudden heated and surreal discussion on gunlaws that only starts making sense when you find out people normally own guns without a firearms license
People are buying guns at in a department store… like Walmart
Hi what the fukc even is Walmart
(this is non-US, non-European) The fact that yall use the names of months when talking about the seasons??? Like you say ‘it’s really cold for July’ or something and I’m just like??? July isn’t a season?? July is the middle of winter for some people.
Seeing a bunch of “tips for summer heatwaves” “cool lemonade recipes” in the middle of winter.
- your Credit Score exists and can be bad just because you never bought thing on credit (there is only Debters Archive in your country so you don’t get too many loans at once)
- you have separate people for bagging grocieries for you
- you have people puring your gas for you as well (you’d be refused and later laughed about for asking it in your country)
- wait, why does your ground salt has 10 ingridients, what do you mean you have no regularions about what can be added WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY DON’T NEED TO WRITE DOWN % OF THEM (you look at your 2 ingridients salt and go to kiss it)
- what is social security number and why the hell do you not have any general ID? why is it enough to screw someone’s life and why do people give it away so easily then?!
- your internet is dead and monopoly killed it (why the hell did the government allow it?)
- oh god the government, how it gerrymandering legal, what do you mean you have 2 options and then you chose who runs for president
- there are, in fact, cities in USA that you’re warned not to enter if you’re black. because they very well might kill you and they advertise it on the city welcoming sign. there is an app for it, I think. THERE IS AN APP FOR IT
- you don’t allow Kinder Eggs but can buy a gun in every Walmart
- there are army recruiters just going arounc high schools. you don’t think you know a single person who joined army beside specialized schools because your country does not have a habbit of invading the rest of the world for profit
- your education isn’t based on one single test. what the hell is ACT? why is it so insane? (the pinapple who won a race but was eaten. what. what sort of question is that. WHY IS THE INSTRUCTION HOW TO HELP STUDENT NOT STRESS-VOMIT ONTO THE PAPERS INCLUDED. WHY IS IT GRADED BY RANDOMS HIRED BY CRAIGSLISTS)
- there are credit companies that advertise themselves to you when you check out colleges. how is that legal (there is free college in my country as long as it’s the week classes and not weekend ones. I cannot imagine going in debt to study or credit companie being allowed to advertise on uni’s property)
- why can’t you change your doctor? what do you mean you are bound to one?! (you’re either insured or not and that’s it in your country, you can change medical center 3 times a year for free)
- why is the store price lower than it should be. why can’t it just include taxes. they don’t change daily, do they (in your country it’s illegal not to post accurate price. to the point that when wrong price it showed you get it for the wrong price no matter who made a mistake)
- there are TV… priests? religious leaders? and they can legally asks you for money (there is one on the radio in your country and he’s the biggest joke for demending money)
- it was mentiones by WHY THE HELL IS IT LEGAL TO EXPECT A TIP TO PAY FOR WORKERS WAGE, WHO MADE IT LEGAL TO PAY THEN LIKE 2 BUCKS AN HOUR BECAUSE ‘THEY WILL GET TIPS’ (there is a minimal wage for ANY FULL-TIME JOB on a contract in your country and tips are complimentary for good service) (there are laws to force company to give you fullt-ime contract if you do enough hours no matter on what temporary paper the hired you)
- police is your enemy and you have 50-50 chance to be shot in your life. you saw police maybe 5 times in your life and saw the have gun maybe once. there is ‘city guard’ who can only give tickes and are laughing stock, but you cannot imagine police being something you fear to ever meet
- the mass shootings are just somthing that happens. the last massacre i your country happend around WWII
me in the mornings & me omw to work
Halloween never ends, fuckers
Researchers have used Easter Island Moai replicas to show how they might have been “walked” to where they are displayed.
VIDEO
Finally. People need to realize aliens aren’t the answer for everything (when they use it to erase poc civilizations and how smart they were)
(via TumbleOn)
What’s really wild is that the native people literally told the Europeans “they walked” when asked how the statues were moved. The Europeans were like “lol these backwards heathens and their fairy tales guess it’s gonna always be a mystery!”
Maori told Europeans that kiore were native rats and no one believed them until DNA tests proved it
And the Iroquois told Europeans that squirels showed them how to tap maple syrup and no one believed them until they caught it on video
Oral history from various First Nations tribes in the Pacific Northwest contained stories about a massive earthquake/tsunami hitting the coast, but no one listened to them until scientists discovered physical evidence of quakes from the Cascadia fault line.
Roopkund Lake AKA “Skeleton Lake” in the Himalayas in India is eerie because it was discovered with hundreds of skeletal remains and for the life of them researchers couldn’t figure out what it was that killed them. For decades the “mystery” went unsolved.
Until they finally payed closer attention to local songs and legend that all essentially said “Yah the Goddess Nanda Devi got mad and sent huge heave stones down to kill them”. That was consistent with huge contusions found all on their neck and shoulders and the weather patterns of the area, which are prone to huge & inevitably deadly goddamn hailstones. https://www.facebook.com/atlasobscura/videos/10154065247212728/
Literally these legends were past down for over a thousand years and it still took researched 50 to “figure out” the “mystery”. 🙄
Adding to this, the Inuit communities in Nunavut KNEW where both the wrecks of the HMS Erebus and HMS Terror were literally the entire time but Europeans/white people didn’t even bother consulting them about either ship until like…last year.
“Inuit traditional knowledge was critical to the discovery of both ships, she pointed out, offering the Canadian government a powerful demonstration of what can be achieved when Inuit voices are included in the process.
In contrast, the tragic fate of the 129 men on the Franklin expedition hints at the high cost of marginalising those who best know the area and its history.
“If Inuit had been consulted 200 years ago and asked for their traditional knowledge – this is our backyard – those two wrecks would have been found, lives would have been saved. I’m confident of that,” she said. “But they believed their civilization was superior and that was their undoing.”
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/sep/16/inuit-canada-britain-shipwreck-hms-terror-nunavut
“Oh yeah, I heard a lot of stories about Terror, the ships, but I guess Parks Canada don’t listen to people,” Kogvik said. “They just ignore Inuit stories about the Terror ship.”
Schimnowski said the crew had also heard stories about people on the land seeing the silhouette of a masted ship at sunset.
“The community knew about this for many, many years. It’s hard for people to stop and actually listen … especially people from the South.”

Indigenous Australians have had stories about giant kangaroos and wombats for thousands of years, and European settlers just kinda assumed they were myths. Cut to more recently when evidence of megafauna was discovered, giant versions of Australian animals that died out 41 000 years ago.
Similarly, scientists have been stumped about how native Palm trees got to a valley in the middle of Australia, and it wasn’t until a few years ago that someone did DNA testing and concluded that seeds had been carried there from the north around 30 000 years ago… aaand someone pointed out that Indigenous people have had stories about gods from the north carrying the seeds to a valley in the central desert.
oh man let me tell you about Indigenous Australian myths - the framework they use (with multi-generational checking that’s unique on the planet, meaning there’s no drifting or mutation of the story, seriously they are hardcore about maintaining integrity) means that we literally have multiple first-hand accounts of life and the ecosystem before the end of the last ice age
it’s literally the oldest accurate oral history of the world.
Now consider this: most people consider the start of recorded history to be with the Sumerians and the Early Dynastic period of the Egyptians. So around 3500 BCE, or five and a half thousand years ago These highly accurate Aboriginal oral histories originate from twenty thousand years ago at least
Ain’t it amazing what white people consider history and what they don’t?
I always said disservice is done to oral traditions and myth when you take them literally. Ancient people were not stupid.

Finally! 7 Months on Estrogen! Since my 6 months mark nothing much has changed. My boobs are still kinda sore and my boyfriend realised that I’m slowly developing hips! Like actually a butt and my waist seems a bit slimmer. I’m thinking about starting waist training but this is something I decide after that month. One month into taking progesteron my mood stabilised and I don’t cry as much as I used to anymore. Left is me pre everything and the right pic is a selfie from today, you can clearly see the difference! Yay! Y'all can check out my old Insta for more pre transition posts: roxy_hblfa And then go to my actual account: roxystonebreaker and follow me if you want.
Thank you and spread love☆
Licia Ronzulli, member of the European Parliament, has been taking her daughter Vittoria to the Parliament sessions for two years now.
Every time this is on my dash, it’s an automatic reblog.
“There comes a point in the final book where each House has the choice whether or not to rise to a certain challenge, and that’s everyone in the House. The Slytherins, for reasons that are understandable, decide they’d rather not play. The Ravenclaws, some decide they will, some decide they won’t. The Hufflepuffs, virtually to a person, stay, as do the Gryffindors. Now, the Gryffindors comprise a lot of foolhardy and show-offy people, that’s just the way it is, I’m a Gryffindor, I’m allowed to say it. You know, there’s bravery, and there’s also showboating, and sometimes the two go together. The Hufflepuffs stayed for a different reason; they weren’t trying to show off, they weren’t being reckless, that’s the essence of Hufflepuff House.” J.K. Rowling
Hufflepuffs stays.
Nice punch.
