We have released over a million images onto Flickr Commons for anyone to use, remix and repurpose. These images were taken from the pages of 17th, 18th and 19th century books digitised by Microsoft who then generously gifted the scanned images to us, allowing us to release them back into the Public Domain. The images themselves cover a startling mix of subjects: There are maps, geological diagrams, beautiful illustrations, comical satire, illuminated and decorative letters, colourful illustrations, landscapes, wall-paintings and so much more that even we are not aware of.

the 80s tylenol murders. tl;dr: you know that tamper seal on new bottles of medicine everyone hates? those are there because in the 1980s, some freak went into a pharmacy and poisoned a bunch of tylenol. 7 people died in the initial crime, more in subsequent copycat crimes. they never caught who did it.

Another thing here is that the company's response to the crisis is, to this day, frequently taught in business classes as a model of how to handle a crisis.
Even though they weren't doing anything differently from other medication companies that made them vulnerable to this--and it remains unclear whether the tampering was happening in the factory, the stores, or some other part of the supply chain--they moved very quickly to recall products and develop tamper-resistant packaging, and as a result they regained the public's trust a lot more quickly than you might guess. (And the new packaging they developed also became the industry standard.)
So part of the comparison here, is that if Tylenol manages to pull off a similarly effective response to this, it could be a playbook for other companies and organizations to resist Trump's baseless attacks.

Franciscan nuns at the Convent of St. Anthony of Padua, Spain, are keeping a giant rabbit breed from dwidling to extinction. To fund their conservation efforts, the nuns sell homemade cookies and ice cream. (People)
Besides just being a big rabbit nerd it is amazing to me that a nun out there somewhere also wakes up thinking "oh i have to feed the rabbits, i'm so grateful for them" we're very different but i'd like to think that this nun would smile at seeing me care for my rabbits too.
Now rabbit nerd stuff. Something i really really love taking about is that european rabbits actually originate from the iberian peninsula and where quite slowly introduced to the rest of Europe. [the first rabbit that we know off in the Netherlands is from 1297!] when they first arrived here they wjere primarily kept in cloisters like these lovekies! And only the rich where able to eat them really. Rabbit breeds are kind of funky but this breed seems to stem from flemish gaints mixed with smaller local breeds of rabbits. I'm sure they have an amazing temperment and i love the slightly red colour on some of them! Rabbit breeds can deveolop quite quickly because of how fast they breed which means that it's pretty challenging to keep a breed stable to so! Applaud for these nuns caring about these creatures.

I think I've written something similar in the past but but...I actually ALMOST feel sorry for Musk. His life is parasitic and his death will be a net positive to humanity and the worst thing is HE KNOWS IT! Oates has a point - you'd think someone with that kind of wealth would ACTUALLY write about the elements of life and culture that he feels enriches him but he can't. Because the only thing he has to strive for is more money and more power. Two things that his acquisition of would actively cheapen the overall value. To people like Musk, the very idea of family is transactional. "What do I get out of it?" (insert comparison to his trans daughter - I'm rushing this). He COULD devote his life to something that fulfills him but...nothing ever will. When you have more wealth than has ever been owned by anyone and that STILL isn't enough, why would you or I assume it ever WILL be?! To be THAT hollow and empty and devoid of the most basic pleasures of life, if Musk wasn't who he was, I'd ACTUALLY feel sorry for him.

No, youâre not taking it away from people who are physically disabled (in fact many of the above count as physical disabilities)
No, youâre not lesser for being disabled
No, it doesnât mean anything about your future
It means youâre disabled and thus are impacted by things like ableism (including internalized ableism regarding what disabled people are or âshould beâ like and thinking of yourself as non/disabled)
It means you have a community of disabled peersâand movements like Disability Justice and radical care work built around helping people like you make it through this world built on our pain and suffering being expendable, ignored, or outright made into a profit margin for corporations
It means you should consider treating yourself as disabled and stop feeling guilty about accommodations, including setting up accommodations yourself in your life but also including work and school formal accommodations (did you know that at least in the US itâs possible to get school accommodations for depression? For anxiety? Flexible attendance, flexible deadlines, the ability to leave class if overwhelmed, test aids, class recordings and materials, so much support is out there). Maybe energy pacing and monitoring can help you, or learning spoon theory, or seeking out medical and social support. Maybe you should consider that an easy way to get someone to fuck off and/or understand the levels of effort and pain youâre going through is to tell them âIâm disabled, which means xâ instead of jumping through hoops trying to get them to understand what your condition means, or to take it seriously.
Be proud and open about disability! Claim that shit! Embrace it! Life is better on the other side.
