i've been wanting to draw this scene from my rp with @temporalreplicsimile since we wrote it!
something that has been implied about this AU but not yet explicitly stated: eva is NOT supposed to be on the hail mary. it wasn't planned for. that means she has no zero-g training at all. grace has the slightest advantage in that technically he did train for it, but not remembering makes it very scary. luckily for him eva is better at handling upsetting situations when she has something (or someone) else to worry over instead of herself
Thank you all for your patience and your support! Chapter 1 of my little Code Lyoko fan-manga is finally complete!
I hope all of my patrons enjoyed getting to see these pages early as I completed them <3 And if you guys like this enough, I'd love to continue making it. I have a lot of plans for the story and really hope I can share it with all of you.
I've been considering posting this to Webtoon, but I know that website can be pretty strict about fan-comics, so for now I'm just gonna be hosting it on my personal website, or here on tumblr.
A light content-warning: While I'm not incorporating anything too gratuitous or violent in this comic, it's definitely more adult-oriented and features some content that might be somewhat disturbing. Just wanna warn you now in case you're not into that kind of thing.
So uhhhh, YEAH! Let me know what you guys think of my first experiment doing manga! Thanks so much for reading!
A lot of people think the Yoko Taro verse is simply a tragedy and yes, there definitely is tragedy in this universe but there is also everlasting hope and the resilience of humanity.
Imagine living in a universe where God HATES your very existence and tries everything to quash every bit of you out.
And yet you hold on. Humanity holds on even when they were wiped out. Humanity continues in the gestalts, in the androids, and yes, even in the machines. Humanity's art, culture, literature, and both ugly and beautiful sides resists extinction. It continues in those that remains.
Hope and humanity stays. Hope and humanity FIGHTS to stay. God hates you and despite that insurmountable hate, you stay and you live.
if you told diogenes the cynic about being trans he'd be like "lol that's a sick troll you're epic" and you'd be like "diogenes no i'm serious" and he'd be like "lol that's even better lmao those guys are so mad about it" and then he'd start going by new original neopronouns every single day specifically to piss off the whole symposium
I just had an idea for a really dumb comedy sketch where a transphobe starts ranting about what really makes a women a woman, and diogenes returns each time with a different cis woman or outwardly femme intersex person that doesn't meet the criteria saying "behold, a man!"
"a woman has XX chromosomes"
*Diogenes with an androgen insensitive XY cis woman*: behold, a man!
"Nono, a woman can bear children!"
*Diogenes with someone who has medical complications associated with pregnancy*: "behold, a man!"
"nono, a woman produces the large gamete"
*Diogenes with a postmenopausal cis woman* "behold, a man!"

Trigger warns for self harm, violence, suicide discussions
A few days after mainCeline arrives demonceline comes back because she's interested in mainhuntrix since they're from another universe. She sees an alternate version of herself and while she's normally playful and taunting she sees red and attacks main celine.
The rest try to stop them, but queenceline is already in her demon form while main Celine has both her honmoon blades out. Unlike the spars between huntrix and othertrix both Celines are going for blood. Because they're both connected to the honmoon, and in unorthodox ways it creates a feedback loop. It turns their self loathing into hatred and they're trying to kill each other, all the pain they both felt over the years is amplified as they're fighting.
MainCeline is the better fighter, she's the most dangerous thing in the world, both worlds. Huntrix is shocked to see mainceline fighting like this, fighting like she did when she needed to keep the honmoon sealed alone. Rumi is terrified for her mother, but is even more scared for the demon queen.
Then something happens, when main celine lands a killing blow on the demon queen the honmoon reacts and stops her. But when it happens everyone connected gets a glimpse of MC's memories, feelings, and thoughts (huntrix, othertrix, and other sls). It starts with MC and mainHana finding out that mainmiyeong was pregnant. There was Hana shouting at miyeong for being so stupid and getting knocked up, she doesn't even know it was a demon yet. MC for her part I'd just hurt, she loved the two of them, deeply, and Miyeong being with someone else hurts her.
The difference between the two worlds is in other world Queenceline got otherHana to stay and they talked it out. Mainceline however went with Hana with the intent to bring her back but it made Miyeong feel abandoned and she ran away before Celine could bring Hana back.
It goes back to the present and everyone is shocked by what happened. QueenCeline mocks MC saying she was worried whens he heard about this so called monster demon hunter and saw herself. But now she isn’t since MC hits so lightly. She says MC doesn't hit as hard as dad, she doesn’t even hit as hard as their mother.
The words and having to experience the memory again leaves MC's guard down for DemonCeline to stab her with black sword and the Honmoon reacts the same. It stops the fatal blow and we see a glimpse of QueenCeline’s past like MC’s. It is when she made her attempted final stand letting Mieyong, Ryon, and Hana run away. She is slashed and bit, as she kills them as quick as she can and is eventually overwhelmed by the sheer weight of demons and they can feel her fear as she realizes they aren’t killing her.
Everyone is shocked after feeling the fear and wounds of QueenCeline. But both Celine’s are stuck in the emotional loop that they can’t stop.
I’m just gonna lay out Queen Celine’s memories in short bursts so I don’t have to right a fight scene and constantly interrupt it. She’s a worst fighter so she doesn’t have as many memories (also because I’ve thought more about Main Celine’s past having to deal with the loss of Mieyong and Hana leaving, while raising Rumi) Queen Celine is also the worse fighter between the two so she has less which is another reason for her to have less memories shown.
After we see Celine being tortured by Gwi-Ma personally, mostly involving fire and pain, trying to break her, but also showing the 4 people she died for being happy together. (note Gwi-Ma doesn’t do this often since after Celine’s ‘death’ these moments are few and far between)
Then they see Celine (at this point Gwi-Ma has burned Celine’s skin to look like patterns just to fuck with her) watching demons surrounding the sanctuary, Mieyong and Hana are fighting but wounded, Gwi-Ma is making her watch. They are losing and the Honmoon is weakening. Celine says that she’ll become a demon if he spares them for 1 year. They can feel her hopelessness along with her love for them which breaks Hana. Gwi-Ma is foolish for taking the deal since the Honmoon was broken, but he saw the two hunters a shadow of what the SLS were and knows he could destroy the Honmoon now and is too greedy and gluttonous for his prize after all this time.
They see demon Celine with a broken mind hunting and killing people but never devouring a soul despite Gwi-Ma commanding her to. They see her slaughtering any demon who preys on an innocent around her based solely on instinct. It hurts their brains to feel how broken Celine is.
Gwi-Ma gets tired of Celine’s rebellion, so he wants to make an example of her and beat her down in front of his whole court. Then he plans to send her out to kill the hunters personally. It doesn’t work, this is when Celine kills and devours him taking on his throne and having a burning hunger in her belly that she can’t fill
They then see the first time Celine eats a soul, the hunger is worse than they’ve ever felt before and she eats the soul of a monsters human. Just imagine the worst person who deserves to get their soul eaten and Celine tracks her down. (personally I’m thinking someone in the industry that destroyed lives and used up idols and talent like they were matches to be burned, used, and thrown out)
Celine goes to the Sanctuary hoping Mieyong and Hana would welcome her back, yes she’s a demon, but she did it to save them and she killed Gwi-Ma so there’s no reason to fight. (Mieyong and Hana throw up at feeling her hope knowing what’s gonna happen) The vision ends with what happens in Part 4 where Hana basically kicks Celine out without letting her explain. The rejection is almost worse than the hunger torture and now Hana knows too.
Finally Celine is angry at their rejection after everything she’s done, everything she’s endured for them. But she mostly hates herself. She visit’s Rumi without any of them knowing and just stares at her. (Other Rumi is in shock, the hunger is painful, but feeling the love Celine felt for her when she was just a baby is almost soothing in a way) At this point she’s kind of realized that ruling the demon realm comes with the hunger. If she doesn’t rule someone else will, someone will be another Gwi-Ma who devours souls indiscriminately. So there in the dark she makes a promise, that after Rumi turns the Honmoon gold, when the world is safe from demons, she’ll let them kill her to keep the world safe from demons
(wouldn’t be a Celine if the goal wasn’t to turn the Honmoon gold right?)
Chronologically this is the last memory between the two Celine’s
That’s the final memory, Hana is sick to her stomach realizing how much pain Celine has endured out of her love for them. How she rejected the woman she loved out of duty when she might have been able to save her if she just listened.
But more on that later. Lets show the horrific memories of Main Celine. Since she’s a better fighter and I’ve thought a lot on the subject there are a lot more.
First is the night Mieyong and Ryon died. You can see this separate post that illustrates what happened. It wasn’t written for Demon Queen Celine, but it’s basically one of my main headcanons for what happened that night.
More 1B Through Celine, they can all feel like what it’s like to feel another one of your hunters, one of your soul mates, die. It’s an agony that doesn’t go away through the memories. 10 hunters Present, and Main Celine is the only one who had to feel that pain first hand.
Next is when Main world Hana shows up and sees the Chaos. She is hurt and broken, but she lashes out angrily. She tries to kill Rumi since she’s a demon, Celine stops her and fights to protect Rumi. She tries to speak sense to Hana but the other woman is blinded by her grief. (Other Hana is shocked by this since despite how hard she became, she genuinely loves Rumi and never once thought about hurting her.) Eventually Hana stops trying to fight Celine and goes to kill Rumi with a cheap shot, Celine puts her body in the way of Hana’s axe and they can feel the blow. After that Celine goes beast mode and beats the shit out of Hana with her bare hands. She spares Hana, but warns her to never come back
There’s a whole arc I had cooked up where Hana tells the previous group of hunters about Rumi. They initially try to kill Rumi since she’s a half demon, something that has never been seen before and once again Celine fights for Rumi, making it 4-on-1. This is the first real showing of when Celine goes from being a hunter to being the Honmoon’s perfect killing machine. She thrashes them easily, far easier than a single hunter should but they went after her baby. (Rumi can feel Celine thinking of her as her own daughter, but the guilt and self-loathing kept her from verbalizing it or being allowed to even in her head.) Celine spares them but warns them that the next time any of them try to kill Rumi, Celine won’t hesitate to kill them
The next moment is short, one of the mentor’s didn’t believe Celine. Celine killed her. None of the other hunters came after Rumi after that.
Next is a bunch of short memories, of a young Celine (and Main Rumi specifically can’t fathom just how young Celine was when she raised her. She’s younger than Rumi is right now) as she raises Rumi, mends the honmoon, and fights demons. The whole time the pain from losing Mieyong never leaving her. The desire to die and be with her also is there constantly, like an anchor around her neck.
On a more funny note, one I think is Celine stumbling home after a hunt, she has a huge gash that needs to be sewn. Rumi unfortunately stumbles upon her and Celine has to put on a big smile while sewing her guts shut. This is where Rumi learned her cringy smile from her.
On a not funny note something similar happens, it’s dark at their house when Celine comes back covered in wounds, she sees the same glowing patterns that she had been hunting and killing the whole night and her body reacts on instinct. She almost kills Rumi before she can stop herself. Rumi doesn't realize how close she was since the lights were out and she can’t see in the dark yet. Celine passes it off like she did that last memory but can’t help but hate herself. It’s after this that Celine makes sure Rumi is covered because she couldn't bare to think about killing Rumi
There are also darker memories about Celine slaughtering demons with ease, it’s easier for her to do it alone than a trio of hunters were able to do. She’s a killing machine, but they can hear her thoughts and realize she’s so brutal with demons to scare them off. She lets a lot live sometimes so they could spread the word of her brutality so demons are more scared of her than Gwi-Ma
There’s also memories of Celine changing the industry with sheer force of personality so that Rumi and her partners will never have to endure what the SLS had too
The next big memory was when she recruited Zoey and Mira. Celine feels inadequate teaching the three girls since she blames herself for the 3 sunlight sisters being teachers like she had trained under. She feels love and pride over them, but knows that if she has to, if they try to kill Rumi, if they succeed, she’ll kill another hunter. Eventually she comes to love the two of them too much as Rumi and it breaks her even more that she knows she’ll kill to save Rumi if it comes to that, but isn’t sure if she could kill Zoey and Mira since she thinks of them as her daughters too. She forces herself to keep them at arms length to make the decision easier. It’s just another thing she hates about herself. (Main Zoey and Mira are shocked how much Celine loves them. They thought Celine was proud of their accomplishments and hunters and idols, but never considered or dared with their backgrounds to believe, Celine actually loved them like she did Rumi)
More short memories, good and bad, like the first time Huntrix wins the Idol awards. It’s one of the first times Celine can be openly proud of her daughters without needing to be reserved.
The last moment is Rumi coming to her after the last idol awards, wanting Celine to kill her. The scene from the movie plays out and Celine is alone. She feels sick to her stomach, that her daughter asked her to kill her, that everything she’s done hasn’t been for the Honmoon, but for Rumi and her daughter asked her to kill her
Celine is moving, she ties a rope around the tree with the intent to kill herself. Fuck the Honmoon, fuck Gwi-Ma, fuck life. She is numb and thinks she failed as a mother and hunter, the Anchor around her neck has never been heavier. She’s done fighting. Or so she thinks
Celine sees chaos in the town near the Sanctuary, Gwi-Ma’s demons are attacking and even without the Honmoon and her swords she goes and works out her agony on Gwi-Ma’s army.
Okay montage over, after seeing QueenCeline’s last memory both Celine’s collapse into each other’s arms crying as they finally forced to have their lives spilled out in front of them. They finally have someone who can understand what they’ve been through. They can finally let their faults and fears be seen.
So yeah this is the next part, pretty heavy, hope you liked it. It’s more choppy than what I wanted, but again, I’m not gonna write a whole fight scene only to interrupt it almost 20 times to describe their flashbacks.
See the thing about Stratt putting all media ever in the Hail Mary is that it isn’t just for lolz or to keep the crew entertained, it always struck me as something deeply sad.
Because even if all the crew survived, there was no way they could consume all possible media ever, language barriers alone would present a problem. And even then, they had a job to do and focus on first (which could have theoretically taken decades of work to figure out) so they wouldn’t have much use for The Great Gatsby or a week’s worth of poorly written amateur Guatemalan experimental opera. Let us remember that Stratt is practical and true utilitarian
Instead, I think it was another part of the Hail Mary. If the scientists failed, if the Earth died, then what? Everything would have been completely lost. Art, music, film, history. Destroyed. Without a single living soul to remember it by. It would be as if all of humanity had never existed.
But if it survived? If other alien civilizations discovered traces of humanity? Then the memory of mankind could live on and be remembered.
What better way to do that than to send everything (literally everything, the art, the music, the science, the history) out as far as humanly possible so that it might connect with someone else in the universe? It would be a long shot, a Hail Mary, but it was the best chance that humanity had to be remembered

Chapter excerpt:
“I’m sorry,” Link started, his voice sounding flat. “I should have held onto it. I shouldn’t have let go. If I hadn’t fallen…”
Urbosa furrowed her eyebrows, suddenly confused. She studied his hunched figure. “Are you hurt?”
He shook his head. His knuckles had turned white against his own arm. His breathing deepened into something harsh and slow. “I— I’ll do better next time. So please…”
Urbosa stared, and somehow that made things worse. Link’s eyes shifted away, the grip on his arm tightening.
“I’m sorry. Really. I’ll do better.”
It was the most Urbosa had heard from him in one breath. But his voice was flat and absent, like he had become nothing but a shell, repeating a mantra of apologies. A desperate plea for something Urbosa didn’t understand.

Y’know we do need a story of Rumi blowing up at Celine cause she is mad that Celine doesn’t care about herself or is able to accept that others love her. Most importantly she’s mad Celine won’t accept that she is her mom. Granted she isn’t trying to hurt Celine just it’s just frustration boiling over.
[ft. Rumi and Celine's chronic inability to communicate with each other and my inability to just shut up]
[Or; everyone gets their feelings hurt]
Other than on legal paperwork, Celine never calls Rumi her daughter.
Which isn't to say that Rumi felt mistreated by Celine growing up; she didn't. Celine had, as far as Rumi could tell, done everything that a mother was supposed to do.
When, every year, without fail, Rumi would get sick with a summer fever that would leave her listless and bedridden, Celine was the one sitting at her bedside, coaxing her to eat just a little more so her body could be strong enough to fight off the virus.
When Rumi would get nightmares that her patterns had spread to all of her and that Gwi-ma had pulled her down into the dark, it was Celine who rocked her back to sleep, humming lullabies long into the night.
When Rumi punched a boy for making fun of a girl he thought wasn't a girl, it was Celine who showed up with a lawyer threatening legal action if the school didn't do something about it's bullying problem. (And it was Celine who gently bandaged Rumi's wrist and told her that the next time she needs to punch someone, to lock her wrist and throw her weight behind it.)
But Celine didn't call herself Rumi's mother and she didn't let Rumi call her that either.
The late Miyeong would always be Rumi's mother and Celine wouldn't do anything to take that away from her.
And it wasn't as if Rumi believed having someone (living) to call "mom" would fix everything;
Zoey's mom had always been a little disappointed and embarrassed that her daughter was an entertainer with only a high school diploma instead of something more prestigious like doctor or engineer.
Mira's mother didn't seem to like children at all and seemed to only have them because having children was simply what one did once one was married. And regardless, most of the child-rearing she left to nannies and, later, to Celine.
But Rumi wanted --
Rumi wanted to be claimed. Rumi wanted Celine to be selfish and say that Rumi was her legacy, the continuation of her family. That Celine's family was Rumi's family and that Celine's ancestors were Rumi's ancestors.
That they were tied together in the ways families were tied together; in obligation and duties that implied forever.
"Mother-daughter photo recreations are trending right now," Rumi said. "The social media people think it would be good if we got in on it. Get some positive press going after, you know --"
The Idol Awards may have been six months ago but the "Official Inquiry" into the code violations and disappearances surrounding Namsan tower were still on-going.
Celine had been trying to keep Rumi separate from the state of the company, telling her to not worry about it, that however the company was doing, the fans still loved Huntr/x. Rumi assumed that this was Celine's way of protecting her somehow.
But Rumi wasn't stupid.
She knew knew how hard the last few months had been, how often Celine stayed up, working into the small hours of the morning.
"I'll tell them to stop bothering you three," Celine said in a croaky rasp that Rumi recognized as too little sleep and too many cups of coffee.
"We want to do it," Rumi said.
The scratching of Celine's pen stopped. Then she set it down and looked up from the legal pad she had been writing on.
"It's a mother-daughter photo recreation," Celine said.
Rumi nodded. "Yes."
"It's a mother-daughter photo recreation," Celine repeated. "Rumi, how--?"
Rumi crossed her arms and tucked them tightly against her chest. It was a preemptive attempt shield herself from a rejection she knew was coming and Celine hated herself for causing it.
"We thought maybe we could take them with you," Rumi said. "Well, Mira and I, anyways. Since Zoey still, you know, talks to her mom."
"Rumi --"
A deep scowl appears on Rumi's face. Darker and angrier than the looks she'd given Celine whenever Celine had told her that she couldn't tell Mira and Zoey about her patterns.
Then Rumi's face twitches and the look fades away, replaced by disappointment.
"You know what, forget it," Rumi said with a sharp laugh. "I don't know why I thought -- you've never wanted to be a mom. You've always been honest about that."
"Rumi, that's not true," Celine said.
But Rumi is shaking her head.
"But it is," Rumi insisted, voice tight. "You've always said I was your ward. You've only ever called yourself my guardian. And that's fine!"
It did not sound fine.
"You said it yourself, you never thought about having kids. I know you never wanted a daughter." Rumi blinked and wiped at her eyes harshly. "Not everyone wants kids and you shouldn't have had to raise one."
Celine stood up and tried to maneuver around her desk.
She froze when Rumi took a step back.
"Rumi, I was twenty-two during that interview," Celine said. "I wasn't ready to be a parent --"
"And you shouldn't have had to be!" Rumi said. The words rushed out of her. "I'm sorry I kept trying to force you to be my mom, Celine. I -- It won't happen again."
Stiffly, she bowed and retreated to the door. Her hand fumbled behind her for a moment before it hit on the door handle.
"I'm always going to appreciate you taking me in, Celine," Rumi mumbled, eyes lowered as though she couldn't bear to look at her.
Americans will see someone express mild discomfort that they teach their children obliterating two civilian cities in the most horrific manner humanity has yet devised was a defensible wartime strategy and be like "to be fair,"
Fun fact! The Japanese were literally trying to surrender and were going through the Soviets (the US' allies throughout WW2) to negotiate but were only really holding out because they wanted assurances that America wouldn't execute the emperor (go figure, the leader didn't want to die because he said he gave up). America wasn't actually planning to execute him, but refused to accept anything less than unconditional surrender, and that was a condition. Regardless of conditions, Japan was going to be surrendering the moment the USSR invaded, which was planned to happen imminently. America knew this. America knew that once the USSR entered the war with Japan, they would have a seat at the negotiating table.
Anti-communist sentiments were already strong in US leadership. The US didn't want communists gaining any more ground on the world stage and nuking Japan was a way to kill two birds with one bomb: end the war before the USSR entered and show the USSR that the USA could wipe out any of their cities in the blink of an eye. People sometimes try to argue that the second bomb had to be dropped because Japan didn't surrender after the first, but Japanese leadership didn't even meet to discuss the first bomb until shortly before the second dropped. At that point, losing an entire city had little effect on leadership. They already had entire cities leveled with conventional weapons. They hadn't yet processed that Hiroshima was leveled by a single bomb. It didn't matter though. The fact that they delayed at all gave America an excuse to prove to the USSR that they could do it again. The US obliterated two cities in Japan ultimately as a shot across the bow for the USSR.
What popular history likes to gloss over is the chain of events that lead to Perl Harbor. The US initially supported Japan (along with selling resources to all sides in the European war), even as Japan committed war crimes across China and Korea. The US had good relations with Japan at that point and saw Japan's invasion of China as a way to get a foothold in a country that had a history of being restrictive of foreign trade. Japan didn't roll out the red carpet for America though; they realized that they had something that the USA wanted and planned to use that to their advantage in global politics and trade. In response, the US stopped selling steel to Japan for their war effort. US leaders/strategists were very aware that cutting Japan off from resources they'd been relying on for their war would invite retaliation, and thus Perl Harbor happened. The US only ever cared about gaining greater access to markets and labor and was willing to fight a war over it, but in such a way that Japan would make the first move.
The US might have ended up on the right side of WW2, but not for the right reasons. The war in Europe was already going in the allies' favor and the entrance of the US only really expedited the war, but it gave the US a seat at the table when deciding what happened after the war. It let the US build military bases in Europe and bring more US businesses into Europe. The US suffered the least from the war and was able to take advantage of the fact that they didn't need to rebuild entire cities like every European country did. it was politically and financially beneficial to the US to join the war late on the side that was already set up to win, especially with a little extra push.
And for the future, the US had a chance to show the world that they weren't afraid to wipe out entire cities with a single bomb. They didn't care about the children incinerated at school, or the handful of survivors who would die because of the radiation. There was no reason for the US to obliterate two cities in a single moment. The US could have chosen to end the war by then but refused to accept any conditions of surrender. The US only used those bombs to show the world how heartless they could be, and then spent decades feeding the public propaganda about how it was necessary so that no one would question why they would ever be willing to do something so horrific.
