Episode 15--The Pylon Party
As I mentioned a short while ago, Erraticus won't be a story that continues on. I did mention possibly publishing the script for the last, unaired episode. This would have been the last episode of season 2.
Be warned, the ending here lands on a pretty gnarly cliffhanger which, again, will never be resolved. So, read at your own discretion.
Again, I have nothing but gratitude for every single person who's listened to and enjoyed this silly little story that grew so much larger than I was prepared for. My writing journey is far from over, and I hope that one day I can share another story with y'all.
If you choose to read the script, it can be found at our website as a PDF here (scroll all the way to the bottom): https://erraticuspod.com/final-farewell/
Cheers, and take care,
Sarah
Hi, I've been an avid follower of Erraticus for a while, and I was wondering if therr was an official discord or anything along those lines. A place where fans could talk to each other directly, and discuss theories and the things we enjoy about the show.
Also, is it likely that Erraticus will get another season? I absolutely adore the show, and was hoping to get something resembling the inside scoop on how things have been going for the wizards behind the curtain.
Hello!!!
Okay, so a confession: I (Sarah Newton, writer for Erraticus) don’t know anything about Discord, other than it’s a place where people chat about things. The fact that Erraticus would ever generate enough fans to warrant such a thing is knocking me off balance, and I’m so very humbled by this request.
I’m also humbled by your support, and the support of everyone who’s listened to our story and reached out to us to let us know that they enjoyed it.
Long story short, Erraticus is a project that will not be continued. This is for a few reasons, almost all related to Real Life limitations on time and production logistics. When I started writing Erraticus, I never thought it would be noticed, nor did I ever assume that there would be people disappointed if the story didn’t reach a finale. For this, I truly am sorry, and it will forever eat at me that I put an unfinished project out into the world. I don’t intend to make this mistake again.
That said, I started a project in 2022 that I intend to finish. It is a novel trilogy featuring: a trio of unlawful misfits forced by circumstance to live together, a sentient “ship,” a hostile setting, and a conspiracy that is larger than any of the characters had assumed. Basically, it’s written with the intent to appeal to those who enjoyed Erraticus. This trilogy is still several years away from seeing the light of day, but the moment I know anything about the release, there will be an announcement on this blog.
And, who knows? It’s possible that the world of Pax, Abel, and Lorne may one day be expanded to include an audio drama set in their universe.
For now—and as an apology—one thing I can do in the next couple of days is release the transcript for the next episode, which was intended to be the season 2 finale of Erraticus. It won’t ever be recorded, but it might round off some of the jagged edges of where Erraticus left off. Beware, however: it does contain a cliffhanger.
Again, thank you so much for reaching out to us. Erraticus was a passion project, and I hope that anything I release in the future will be half as well-loved as Erraticus was.
Yours, on behalf of the Erraticus Team,
Sarah Newton
Every podcaster thinks they're better than someone else.
In terms of recorded media, the entry cost for podcasting is basically zero, and audio editing is easy enough that the bare basics can be learned in the afternoon (mastery takes far longer but bear with me)
it’s the perfect format for the Dunning-Krueger crowd to pick a niche where their amateur knowledge lets them feel self superior while they play expert about serial killers or something.
I follow a lot of audio fiction blogs, and for a second I was like "wtf the community is so amazing and supportive!"
And then I got to the end and remembered that talk podcasts exist and are like 95% of podcasts.

1. you can imagine how a “fern signal” might work. a driver would extend a fern branch out of his car in various positions to indicate which way he’s turning.

I don’t care how contrived it is. I will always enjoy two characters who don’t like each other somehow getting trapped in the same place, and having to work together to escape, while at the same time growing closer and learning that maybe, the other person isn’t so bad after all.
more characters should be 30+ years old

for any new audio drama creators who’ve ever worried about acting in their own shows because they don’t want to hear themselves, let me tell you this:
having to edit your own voice lines is the best inoculation you can get against hating your own voice
it might not make you love it, but doing it for even just a few episodes is often enough to turn your feelings from “oh ew i sound like that??” to “this is just another set of noises i have to get through ughh”

This is a fair question, and not an easy one to answer. We are definitely in an indefinite hiatus due to...well, life.
While the future of Erraticus is uncertain, Newton has spent the hiatus working on a series of novels that is very much written in the same spirit as Erraticus (eg, a trio of law-flaunting misfits traveling through hostile environs on a peculiar ship). If we find that we can no longer continue our story with Fern, Guy, and the Innominate, hopefully she can mitigate some of the disappointment by offering a new story, albeit in a different medium.
We are so grateful for all of our listeners and everyone who's sent a kind word our way.
Thank you.
