We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

Before starting to reread Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (it is my summer reading novel for school), I read We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. I had never read anything else by this author and was intrigued by the synopsis, However, when I began reading the story, it actually began to bore me.

The story, told from the point of view of a girl named Cadence, turns from a story about a rich family with a good amount of secrets to a novel about a girl fawning over a non-rich guy. This romance angle continued until the very end when the novel gets a bit confusing. Im not going to spoil anything but to say the least the whole book left me not wanting to read any more by this author.

just a couple recommendations of books i have read recently. Watched was really good and I cant wait to read more by CJ Lyons. Messenger of Fear was eh. I think the book should have continued more. The ending did leave me wanting to read the next one but it took a long time to reach the point of excitement. I will probably read the next one and if i dont like it I wont read any others that come after. Walled City was intriguing. If you want more, full length reviews of these books, let me know!

Blood of Olympus book signing!!

Oh My Gods! my best friend, Kayla, and I are going to see Rick Riordan when he comes to Chicago for his Blood of Olympus book tour!!!! LIKE WHAT!?!?!?! He is literally my favorite author ever and even though his books are technically classified for younger kids and not young adults i feel like any one of any age could read them and enjoy them and that is what I think makes him an amazing author! Pics to come later! the event is not for like 25 days or something so it will be a while but AHHHHHH!!!

No Safety in Numbers by Dayna Lorentz

A few weeks ago i finished reading No Safety in Numbers and I cant say that I fell in love with the series. Now, don't get me wrong, I did like the book. I really did. But based off the reviews that were put on the cover of the book I assumed it would be a bit more intense and less of them just stealing clothes from stores and playing spin the bottle. overall I just thought the plot could have been done more effectively to show how serious the situation is. This, to me, did not come across until the very end where they say that 50 people were dead (I think it was 50 but dont quote me on that).

Character wise- I though that the characters were your typical characters that you meet in a novel like this.

Shay: I tried to like Shay but the more i read of her the less I liked her. I felt like she was kind of two-sided. One side being her loving and caring side which was seen in parts where she interacted with her grandmother and sister. The second side being the flirty, attractive, and almost slut-like side to her. I get that she liked Ryan and everything but I felt like she was kind of desperate. And she was always thinking about him and running off with him instead of trying to find insulin or other medicines for her grandmother. I mean, she couldnt even bring her own grandmother to the doctors! Marco had to do that!!! I dont really know. I wasnt to fond of her character.

Ryan- I really enjoyed Ryan's character. This is going to sound kind of contradicting to what I said about Shay but I thought they were very similar in the fact that they were both two sided. Ryan has his jock attitude and then his flirty attitude towards Shay. I liked the way he always thought about Shay and cared about her. I think it is much more interesting from a guys perspective than a girls perspective to read about the romantic parts of a story.

Marco- Im going to keep this one short and simple. I loved Marco and think he is under appreciated

Lexi- Another simple one. I loved lexi for being different and almost like an outcast but I actually wanted her to end up with Ryan because I thought that they would have been cute together instead of the stereo typical cute boy ends up with cute girl blah blah blah.

overall I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it

Because I go to B&N basically every other week (and since my brother works there and is constantly picking me up books) I thought I'd share what books I got recently

1. City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare---last book in the Mortal Instruments series; loved it!

2. Partials by Dan Wells--havent read it yet; is it good?

3. No Safety in Numbers by Dayna Lorentz--havent read it yet; friend read it; she loved it

4. Kingdom Keepers 7 by Ridley Pearson--it was okay; not really an ending I liked since I love Cliffhanger endings

I feel like there was more books but I just cant think of them right now since Im not at home so yeah hope you guys check out some of these books!

New Book Recs

As my Freshman year of high school comes to a close(Only 3 days left and their all finals!) I wanted to recommend the books we read this year.

First we had to read Romeo and Juliet over the summer and while I enjoyed the story it was kinda boring since I already knew what happened. But I am a huge Shakespeare fan so I enjoy reading his work.

Here was what we read during the year:

1. The Odyssey by Homer

4. Julius Caesar by Shakespeare

Ending of Allegiant

A lot of my friends are just beginning to read the last installment to the Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth and they aren't too pleased with the ending. Now, this seems to be the way a lot of other people feel by what I have read online. I; however, strongly disagree. I think the ending was appropriate and, although it was extremely sad, it was well thought out and made for an interesting take.

There are so many dystopian novels out there that end with a happy ending for the protagonist. Doesn't it get kind of boring and repetitive? I applaud Ms. Roth for breaking away from the norm and ending her novel the way she did.

SPOILERS AHEAD-READ AT OWN RISK

In Insurgent, when Tris is in erudite headquarters on the operating table she sees her mom and asks her if she is done yet, to which her mom replies no. Then at the end of Allegiant Tris sees her mom again and her mom tells her she is finally done and then this is when the reader knows that Tris has died. I believe that this is was a excellent way to connect the two novels. Although you may no be happy that the character you loved has died (as I was furious when Uriah died), it was a compelling way to bring the story to a close and add a full circle type of effect.

New Books!

Hey guyz! So I went on a little trip to Barnes and Noble yesterday and picked up a few books.

The first being Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell. I have heard amazing things about this book and finally decided to give it a go. The second book I got was The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau. I heard it's like the Hunger Games/Divergent only different...if that makes sense. My friend recommended this book to me and since we like the same style of books I figured I would like it. Finally I picked up Dont Close Your Eyes by Lisa McMann. This book is actually one of her trilogies all in one book. The 3 books in the trilogy are Wake, Fade, and Gone so go check them out.
