Made a silly little animation for this month’s VGen challenge theme of paws.

An adventurer goes through the hardest battle of will against the softest forbidden treasure in the forest: the guardian's toe beans.

It goes exactly as well as you would expect

REDRAW OLD ART.

Progress is weird because you usually do not notice it day to day.

Your eye and your hand train at different rates. Sometimes your eye levels up first, which means you can suddenly see that something looks wrong before your hand knows how to fix it yet.

So if you are ever staring at your art wondering if you have improved at all, here is some wisdom from my far younger years, in case you are a youngin who has not been smacked with it yet:

Redraw old art.

Not because the old one is bad. It got you here. But because it gives you actual proof that all those tiny invisible practice points were stacking in the background like some sneaky little RPG stat.

2022 vs 2018. Be kind to past-you. They were doing their best with the tools they had.

Animation is hard

As hard as I am :) :( I may have to stick with doing illustrations without taking on ambitious passion projects

No better way to get better than to do it but I'm not sure if its just best to do something that'll allow me to "post" more often

I just want to share cool stuff and get better at different art aspects alongside the rest of the nerds here :') please

I need to figure out how other content creators do it

Anyway if the next upcoming thing takes a hot second it might be because my ambition and hyperfixation took over again, my late nights are how I learn best.

Some #animation practice for my lycanthrope blood hunter. Never got to finish it as my computer blew up on me, but I was able to dig this one out from the server I'm in so it might get back into it.

Our D&D dungeon master let her have an in-between form to make her a bit more expressive, which is great news for me because I'm an absolute weeb for reactive and responsive big ears. So you'll probably be seeing elves with ears big enough to make Dumbo blush in future posts too, since that's the race I end up playing most of the time.

I think her actual lycanthrope form (not this one) makes her my first proper monster girl that isn't just humanoid with big ears

(I love humanoids with big ears though)

Just to add - this was mostly an animation/anatomy base test before adding clothing, so nothing super polished here yet but yes shes going to be wearing clothes this is just an under base aaa

Sometimes it's better to redraw a piece than keep trying to endlessly fix the wrong version of it.

Not always, obviously. Sometimes the healthier call is to finish the thing, learn what you can, and move on. But this was one of those times.

This is also one of those bits of advice that hit me harder as I got older. My friend @void-tech told me this years ago, and even though I did ask for the advice, actually following it was a lot harder at the time because it basically meant "redo it properly and suffer a bit more for your craft."

Annoying advice. Unfortunately, very good advice.

Younger, stubborn me did not want to hear it, mostly because I really did not want to redraw that weird hand a second time. I was so proud of that poor misshapen arrangement of broken bones. It was properly drawn, I swear.

Thankfully, my eyes have improved since then, and it's the kind of advice that stuck with me and keeps proving true the more I grow.

They've been a huge part of my growth over the years, and I owe them a lot for that. I still carry a lot of what they've shared with me, and they're genuinely the best.

Also their creature designs are sick and I look at them very respectfully.

Most places suggest making an intro post, so i figured i should probably make one 

hello to what i can only assume is currently myself and the future goblins passing through (and my sneakie bestie westie who convinced me to make a tumblr) 

this account has technically existed for a while, but only in the sense that an abandoned building technically still exists, so i'm trying to use it properly now. there will be some experimentation while i figure this place out 

i'm a fantasy character artist, i've been building a site in the background for the past few months, and there will probably be some posts about that too as i get everything settled in 

if anyone has tumblr wisdom to spare, i will take it
