Gauze and antiseptic This is part 3 of an Eric x reader series, in case you haven’t read part 1 and 2 do it!
I changed slightly the order of the facts which happen in the books but it’s just because I wanted to make “capture the flag” an activity for the initiates who had already passed the initiation. I changed the timeline for the benefit of the story.
BTW let’s imagine Molly was there too when Tris was attacked. I need four attackers.
It had been two weeks since you had arrived to dauntless, you had improved your resistence running and your strength, you were pretty satisfied with how in shape you were getting, you hadn’t been so fit in your whole life.
Since the fights started you had competed against four initiates, you only had lost your fight against Edward because you hadn’t really learnt his moves and he was way stronger than you. Your other fights had been against Peter, Molly and Al. Al had been quite the problem, you didn’t want to hurt him but he wouldn’t move and you couldn’t find the spot on his neck, it took you three minutes to make him black out and you had felt like shit right after it. He refused to fight and you couldn’t understand why he had chosen Dauntless. Winning Molly had been quite easy, she was really predictable and didn’t have a certain thing she was specially good at. Unfortunately it hadn’t been the same for Tris. Will and Christina were over the line and you were second but Tris wasn’t improving so you decided to ask her to come to train with you and Peter one night.
Peter had surprised you, he hadn’t been mad at you, slightly frustrated by being defeated by you but not mad, he had kept his promise and it made your heart get lighter when you heard a sarcastic comment as soon as you walked in his room of the infirmary.
Eric had kept assuring you you would lose your next fight and you would just reply sarcastically and walk away. Everything was going perfectly but the night Edward was attacked everything started going downhill.
You couldn’t believe Peter had been capable of doing that. You had thought he was a good guy, ambitious and sometimes mean, but good nonetheless.
It was crystal you were wrong. When Edward was stabbed you, Myra and Tris were the first ones to react, when the lights were switched on Edward was taken to the infirmary and you had went with him. You waited outside while Myra was inside with him, you could hear the sobs from outside the door and couldn’t hold back the anger filling your body. You started walking down corridors and you found the worst person you could find at the moment.
“How could you” you said holding back your fury, trying your best to sound cold. “I know it was you, you and Drew were the only ones who weren’t on your beds.”
“I don’t know what you are talking about” he said.
“Peter don’t you dare to lie to me. Are you planning on doing that to me too?” you asked raising your voice.
“I’d never hurt you but he was the first one, I only did it because he wasn’t good enough”
“I don’t think you are the one who should judge that Peter. I just don’t understand how could you do it. Steal someone’s life that way. I thought you were different.”
“What, you thought I’d help you do flower crown while we sung peace songs? I’m not that person. This is a fight, only the best ones will win therefore I should do my best to achieve what I want to.”
“How do you dare. You are a transfer too, don’t pretend you belong here anymore than I do.”
“Then why do you care what happens to a boy who was going to take someone’s place in the faction. He wouldn’t have cared if that had happened to you.” he said
“And why the fuck should you know that? Belonging to Dauntless doesn’t mean you have to be a bitch.”
“You are so fucking weak, there’s no way on Earth you are getting through the second part of the initiation.”
“Why the fuck do you care anyway?” you spat at him. You were getting to angry now.
“Oh I don’t care in the end all of you are weak as hell and I would stabb him three, four, five and six times if it were necessary” he said.
10 feet was the distance between the both of you and a corridor crossed
perpendicularly the one you were currently in.
The anger you had been holding back for those minutes was getting too much to bare and after his words you just exploded and started walking towards him intending to hit him as hard as you could. Unfortunately someone stopped you before you could get to him and dragged you towards the corridor he had come out from.
“Easy there Apple Pie wouldn’t want you to get hurt would we” Eric’s voice said just before your ear. You groaned in desesperation and tried to get him off. Your feet didn’t reach de floor, his arms were holding you against his chest and keeping your arms tightly against your body.
“Eric let me go” you said moving your body frantically.
“Not until you calm down” he said taking you to a corner. You stopped struggling and slowly he left you on the ground, still holding your arms.
You left out a loud sigh and stood still until you felt his arms getting away from your body.
“You were right” You said after some seconds. He just stared at you questioningly. “About Peter there was no good to save.” you said “I’m just a stupid girl transfered from amity who is going to fuck up her initiation.” you said leaning your head against the wall.
“I wasn’t exactly right, he wasn’t in fact mad at you he was just trying to be the first one through Edward.”
“Oh fuck now I’m self pitying myself when someone was just stabbed in the eye.” you said. “How strong”
“Hey take it easy, you are getting through the initiation, you are the first one for now and I recommend you listen to me carefully because I don’t tend to say nice things about people. You have managed to beat one of the strongest fighters of your initiation, you have proven to be strong and intelligent enought to get on top of that list so I suggest you stop doubting yourself and get ready to keep going on because this isn’t over at all.” It wasn’t much but it was Eric after all, he had complimented you and tried to cheer you up so you should appreciate it.
You took a deep breath and smiled. “Thank you Eric”.
“Don’t get used to it I won’t go any easier on you” he said but you saw he was holding back a smile, not a smirk, a smile.
“I wouldn’t dream of it” you answered smiling and turning around. “I’ll see you tomorrow sir” you said walking towards the bedroom. You could almost see him rolling his eyes and it made you smile even wider.
Two days had gone by and you were walking around with Tris, you weren’t really headed anywhere, you simply walked and talked, trying to relieve the stress you had been bottling up.
Just as you were near to a corner four people walked in the same corridor as you and Tris and slapped you and hit Tris on the head, you felt slightly dizzy from the slap but when you felt two people pulling you up you started struggling. You couldn’t see anything and something was covering your mouth, you heard Tris making muffled noises. You bit hard on the thing covering your mouth and heard a little scream.
“Help someone” you screamed just before you were silenced again, you heard Tris screaming something too but you didn’t quite understand it, you didn’t know what to do and you were afraid of what would happen to you. You kicked hard and managed to hit someone but you were still being held. You heard footsteps nearing and heard punchs and something else, you wondered if Tris had managed to get rid of her capturers, you kicked again with both legs against what was holding you and managed to put your feet on the floor, your mouth was freed and you struggled to get your hands free.
Suddenly you were free and nothing was holding your arms anymore but that made you lose your balannce and you fell to the floor, you took the blindfold off and saw Four kicking one last time whoever had been kicking you. After that he looked at you hurriedly.
“I’m okay” you said and he rushed besides Tris.
Some moments after that Eric came rushing down a corridor.
“Who was screaming?” his voice inquired just as he walked in and found one body on the floor, Tris touching her forehead as Four was kneeled beside her holding her arm inspecting her wounds. His eyes kept moving through the scenario and then he saw you, you could see his eyes slightly widening after that. He walked directly towards you and cupped your face, examining you, looking for injuries.
“What happened?” he asked, his eyes moving to your arms and the rest of your body.
“Tris and I were walking, then four people rushed to us, Tris was hit on the head, I was slapped, two people grabbed me and two people grabbed her, we were brought here and I guess they planned to throw us over the Chasm, I think I was hit more times but I’m starting to feel that now, I guess the adrenaline made me kind of ignore it, I think Tris is worse than me but I’m not sure about what happened to her once they got her, you should ask her.” you said all that rather coldly and matter-of-factly.
“She already has Four looking after her.”he said. “Your cheek is only slightly red, I don’t know about the rest.” he said running his thumb across your cheek which made a shiver run down your spine. He then stood away from you abruptly and kneeled in order to inspect the body on the floor. It was Drew, which meant Peter had organised this, which meant Molly was probably involved too. But you didn’t know who the fourth individual was. You heard Tris crying and you felt quite bad, you didn’t feel like crying, you felt quite empty and now that Eric had left your side it was even worse.
You saw him whisper something on Drew’s ear and then he started kicking him hard.
“Eric, Eric stop!” you screamed trying to push him back, you tried to grab his arms and make him walk backwards, you put your hands on his chest and pushed him softly backwards. “He is just stupid. He follows orders” Eric just stared at you and then closed his eyes. Some seconds after that you realised Tris and Four weren’t there anymore.
“Wait for me here will you?” he asked quite softly. You just nodded as he grabbed Drew and took him somewhere, you didn’t really care where as long as he didn’t beat the hell out of him.
You sat on a rock and watched the water flow, you didn’t know how long it had been when you heard footsteps behind you. You stood up and turned around.
“There’s no way on Earth you are going to the infirmary as long as that boy is still there and the other three are free.”
“Don’t worry, I’m okay I’ll just go to the bedroom and rest until tomorrow. I’m sure they’re just some bruises.” you said still coldly. He could feel you weren’t being yourself.
“You are coming with me now, you are not going to the bedroom if I’m not sure you are alright.” he said turning around. “Follow me”
“To my apartment, it’s the only place I can know you are safe for now”
“Why do you care anyway? I’m just an initiate who couldn’t get rid of two assholes.”
“You know as well as I do who was the other person who was grabbing you, there was no way on Earth you could get both of them off alone” you just sighed as you walked. You didn’t know this part of the faction, it was different and you appreciated the change of view, not seeing the same corridors over and over again.
After some time walking Eric stopped before a door and opened it. He waited for you to walk in before him.
“What are you waiting for pumpkin? I won’t bite you” he said, that made you take some steps towards the apartment until you were just before the door. He walked in behind you and closed the door silently.
The flat was clean and organised, a small table and a sofa above a carpet, some really simple paintings hanging on the walls a clock and some shelves full of books.
“Your apartment is really nice” you said shyly still standing on the same place you had been when you had entered the room.
“Sit down, I’m going to get something to clean up your wounds.” he said leaving through a door. You carefully approached the sofa and sat still, just as you did you felt a pang of pain on your back and a slight discomfort in your leg.
Some moments later Eric walked back in with a red box in his hands. He looked at you for a moment, stopped on his tracks and after some seconds he started walking again towards you.
“Alright I think the best will be for you to go to the bathroom, see where you have been injured and put on this t-shirt so I can clean whatever you have because those clother are too tight and I don’t think I’ll be able to do anything.” he said the last part lowering his gaze which was a really strange thing for him to do.
“Alright. I think I have something on my back though” you said staring at the floor. This was a quite violent subject to talk about with your instructor who you were developing feelings for.
“Oh, uh... I’ll go see if I have anything which can work for you” he said standing up.
“I’ll start getting changed” you said. “Where’s the bathroom?” you asked.
“The door on the left” he said.
“Thank you” you said rushing towards the room with the t-shirt in your hands. You removed your t-shirt in the first place and it was quite painful, your back was full of bloody scratches and your arms had bruises where you had been held.
You put the t-shirt Eric had given you on and instantly you felt his smell around you, you inhaled deeply and closed your eyes. You washed your face with the water from the tap and saw the red of your cheek was fading away.
The rough part came when you had to take your leggings off. As you slid them off they stuck to your skin, it was bloddy, you didn’t know how on Earth you had gotten those, some looked like nails and the other ones you didn’t want to know, you simply got them down completely with a grimace and inhaled at the sudden pain. The t-shirt reached your thighs and you left out a sigh at the loss of the sweaty bloddy clothes. You folded them and walked out.
“I’ve been looking but I don’t think I have any short trousers and I don’t know what else would work”
“Don’t worry it’s alright, I’m surt I’m not the first girl you see with her panties on” you said giving less importance to what was about to happen.
“Sit in the sofa” he said and kneeled before you. The sight made you feel awkward, you felt really nervous and you were going back to your senses. Eric stared at your legs and his eyes stared at the bloody marks all over them. “You say you didn’t notice when this happened?” he said as he started cleaning your injuries with a gauze and antiseptic, it stang and you couldn’t help but to let some whimpers out every now and again as your leg tried to get away from him. “I know it stings” he said as he kept desinfecting your leg, his left hand held your leg gently while the other one kept torturing you with the antiseptic. Once he was done with your left leg he started doing the same to your right one and every second it passed you felt less pain and more tickles were his hand held your leg, it was becoming quite a torture too, having his hand so close to you, it made you feel bubbly.
“I should’ve trusted you you know?” you said dreamily. “You said Peter wasn’t good, today he tried to kill me, it’s quite sad I considered him a friend.”
“People tend to surprise us and in a negative way” he said still staring at your leg.
“I guess... but you are quite the opposite.” you said still not looking at him. You felt him stopping cleaning your scratches and resting both his hands on your leg.
They ran down your leg gently until he reached your ankle and you let out a sigh you didn’t know you had been holding. “Everyone has different aspects of themselves.”
“Yeah, we tend to show different façades depending on who are we talking to.”
He raised himself slighly “I think your legs will be okay” he said cupping the cheek you had been slapped in. “Your cheek is okay too” you nodded. “Lay down on your stomach, I’ll raise the t-shirt to your shoulders okay?” he asked. You just nodded and did as he asked. You felt his fingers gingerly grab the ends of the t-shirt and felt the soft fabric moving up until it reached your shoulders.
“Saying you had something on your back was quite an understatement” he said. His hands rested on your lower back and you felt tingles wherever his hands where. His hands moved upwards and you couldn’t hold back a giggle. He quirked his eyebrow and run his fingers down your sides.
“Eric stop” you said trying to supress your laughter.
“Are you ticklish?” he asked quite increously.
“Isn’t it obvious?” you asked, your breathing going back to normal just before his hands went up your sides again. By now you were trying to supress sighs and moans because no man had ever touched you that way. No one had ever caressed your legs or your back the way he was doing and that wasn’t helping with the fact you had been aching for his touch for weeks.
“That’s pretty interesting information” he said, you could hear the smirk on his voice as he started running another gaze down your wounds. At the same time he did that he drew circles on the small of your back and by this point you didn’t know if he was aware of what he was doing to you.
Not making any sounds was requiring all the self control you had, and then he brushed your hair to a side and his fingers brushed your neck, you highly doubted he hadn’t seen your shiver. He kept running the gaze soaked in antiseptic down your back and by the end it was almost calming. His touch slowly soothing you to sleep, you fell completely asleep when his hands moved to your shoulders and squeezed them.
You woke up covered by soft white sheets which smelled like Heaven and for a second you felt as if you had no worries in the world. Then you remembered you hadn’t fallen asleep in a bed yeesterday and that that wasn’t your bed, it was Eric’s. You sat up fastly on the bed and looked around you. You saw a note on the bedside table.
I brought you to bed yesterday. Don’t worry about today’s training, you didn’t have any fights today and your abscence adn Tris’ is absolutely justificated. I’ll go there when I finish, I’ll get you some clothes on my way back so you don’t need to wear yesterday’s.
Your heart skipped a beat when you read the letter you had fallen asleep on his couch while his hands were cleaning your back. And you couldn’t stop remembering how nice his hands felt against your skin, his skin was rough against yours and you forced yourself to leave that line of thoughts because it wasn’t healthy for you. You would never get anything more from him, he had already done enough and you had to forget your silly crush for someone who was out of your league. However you didn’t know that Eric was unable to focus the whole day because of you.
He couldn’t stop replaying last night’s moments in his mind, what he had felt when he saw you had been hurt, what he had wanted to do to those boys, how painfully hot you had looked on his shirt and how badly he had wanted to tear it off from you, he couldn’t anyway.
He couldn’t forget your wounded legs either, your beautiful smooth legs covered in scratches, and your back, your soft skin which felt so good against his fingertips, it made him feel guilty, falling for an initiate but you were so different from everyone, you were able to reply to him whenever he would be mean and yet you were so fragile he felt you would break.
When you had giggled because of his hands on your back he had felt way too aroused, it took him all his will power to not tickle you until you ran out of breath only to straddle and kiss you right after. He had kept feeling your skin anyway, taking advantage of the excuse he had to touch you anywhere he could. He was dying to run his hands down your hair and when he tried to brush it to a side he had brushed your neck and then he had obtained the first reaction from you, he knew you had held back sounds moans because he had felt your body shaking once or twice but to get a real reaction from you, that really had made him question his strength to keep touching you and not being able to allow his hands to wander anywhere he wished. He was dying to run his hands down your waist to your hips and grab your ass. He had held himself back though, and after some minutes he had realised you were asleep. He had brushed your hair off your face and as gently as he could, raised you from the couch and under the covers of his bed. He would have really liked to lay down there with you, but he knew it was unapropiate so he went to the couche and laid there until the next day, and here he was, trying to focus on anything but you, which was becoming quite hard.
You had made the bed and tidied the things Eric had used to clean your wounds the previous day. Just as you were siting on the couch the main door opened and he walked in.
“Hello princess how’d you sleep”
“Really well but you should’ve left me on the couch, it’s your ved afterall.”
“I didn’t mind it, besides you were hurt, you needed to rest”
“Well thank you anyway” you said smiling at him.
“I brought you some clothes” he said giving you a bag with one of your t-shirs and leggings.
“Thank you” you said again as you took them. “I’ll go, get changed” you muttered, you were still wearing his shirt and you felt slightly naked.
As soon as you left the bathroom you felt filled with energy again. “I think I should go back to the bedroom” you said staring at the floor.
“Uh-huh” was all he said, he wanted to beg you to stay, to pin you against a world kiss you and make love to you until you couldn’t remember your own name but he didn’t do any of those things, you were still an initiate and you had to focus on the second part of the initiation. He walked you to the door and leaned on the doorframe.
“I... thank you for taking care of me... I really appreciate it” you said looking at him in the eye for a brief moment before staring back at the ground.
“Anytime, try not to get your ass kicked today though.” he said looking down at you. You were so small compared to him he wanted to take you in his arms and just make you know you were his, but you weren’t.
“Oh shit, I was intending on changing Peter’s shampoo for pink dye” you said sarcastically.
He rolled his eyes at you and smirked. You turned around and jogged towards your bedroom.
As soon as you got there you learnt Al had commited suicide, the worst of all was that you felt no sadness or regret. He had been on of the attackers. He couldn’t bare with what he had almost done. It was his problem. Yours was to get a certain Dauntless leader out of your head.
