There's a post floating around about how botox makes women look strange and it's absurd to treat it as a feminist cause.
I 100% agree.
Plastic surgery and botox were the one and only reason I eventually dropped k-dramas.
The actors and actresses just look so unsettling to watch, their faces look off.
Because I'm less used to men injecting themselves with botox it was even more jarring seeing actors with very noticeable procedures.
Coming across the Overanalysing Avatar series was one of the best things to happen to me, for a few days I was just a clapping seal and felt very energetic that someone just Gets It TM
ATLA movie was very good for what it is, but it confirms a lot of my fears for the new avatar stories coming forward. Before you could easily handwave a lot of concerns away but it's a bit hard now.

like there is such a huge contingent of people to whom War Crimes are a funny imaginary fake thing but sexual assault is Real and Serious and yknow to point out the extermely obvious it is because they are mostly usamericans/imperial core residents and therefore they can imagine one type of harm befalling them (therefore making it Real and Serious) and not the other (thereby making it Funny)

I really want to understand why it seems like every media that's mildly "woke" has very oddly mean fans online.
I used to see 4channers and the like pinning toxic fandoms on ~wokeness~
It's a specific kind of toxicity btw, not saying that media with a conservative bent or appeal doesn't attract bad fans, they very much do (eg: Frieren Western fans). Maybe I'm being bias by unconsciously brushing it aside and focusing on ~woke~ media.

why is it offensive to imply that someone might be autistic? why does suggesting that someone might be passionate or knowledgeable about a subject because of autism devalue that knowledge?
it's not offensive to imply that someone's autistic.
it is inappropriate to imply that autism is the only explanation that a person could be knowledgeable (particularly in the instance of the Sinners consultants, many of whom are consulting on their own cultural heritage or lived experiences), or that autism is inherently linked to superior knowledge, which is just a rehash of the ableist "autistic savant" trope that serves to "justify" autistic existence for those who do fit the stereotype and alienate those who don't.
it's also part of an increasingly vocal trend in which people who are allistic (frequently referred to as simply "neurotypical," which is problematic in its own regard as it excludes anyone who is any other kind of neurodivergent from the umbrella) are depicted as incurious, unimaginative, and generally lacking in internal lives--at worst, rendered as "NPCs" who seem to exist at a lower level of humanity than autistic people do. while no one directly made such a statement on the Sinners post in particular, the assumption that anyone in possession of specialized historical and cultural knowledge must be inherently autistic is in direct conversation with that line of thinking, which is one that I would heavily caution against. Ember Green has several really incredible video essays on the subject, which I would heartily recommend to anyone looking to hear more about this from an autistic perspective.
Saw someone recently do this in reply to someone else talking about an interaction with a knowledge-keeper, where the comment was "you can just say autistic" which was foul in context: Knowledge-keeper being specifically a term for an Indigenous person who passes down the knowledge that empire tried to wipe out, whether that's language or skills or environment knowledge or stories etc, often specifically one outside of the academic hierarchy. And flattening that deliberate system of resistance into just a symptom is foul.
Sometimes the urge to cast any kind of deep interest or care for a topic, or any eccentricity, or even just any feat of memory and knowledge as autism feels like the fuzzy version of "Everyone is a little bit on the spectrum!!"

People there feel like they're genuinely into GL stories and aren't doing it for woke points
