Our hero thought but of treasure ahead
Did not consider the peace of the dead
Through the dark they went creeping
And awoke what was sleeping
A new grave they dug, which they themselves fed
temporarily human, down-on-his-luck raphael x ascended astarion. raphael trying to make a deal with him (to get astarion to turn him), loops haarlep in because raphaelâs contracts are no longer binding, all because he doesnât want to age and die to something trivial before he can get his powers back. is that anything
Iâm not a fan of ai, but I can accept that if someone chooses to use ai for their fics or their art, that is their choice. not something I agree with. but still not my business, and I will never condone harassment.
if anything, I think itâs better if these people feel comfortable enough to tag their stuff as ai, so that other people can avoid their works if theyâre not comfortable with ai-generated contents.
that said, I think ai writers will stop tagging their stuff as ai entirely if people shame or harass them for it.
so now their stuff is still ai, just untagged, meaning thereâs no way for others to know if itâs ai.
keep in mind that speculation, accusations and witch hunt harm genuine artists and writers as much as ai does, if not more.
so if you go to the âai-generatedâ tag on ao3 just to harass people for using ai, just know that youâre not actually fighting against ai â youâre just being a bully and youâre also making people more wary of properly tagging their ai-generated works as such. so youâre just making sure they no longer tag their ai-generated stuff as ai. also you can be reported for harassment, and ao3 will not take your side. (whether or not you like it, ai-generated works are allowed on ao3, whereas harassment is not.)
the âai-generatedâ tag on ao3 is there so people can either find or avoid works with ai (but in order for it to work, ai users must feel comfortable enough to be honest and tag their works properly, that wonât happen if people keep shaming and harassing them for it â the only thing harassment will do is make sure ai stuff go untagged, harassment doesnât stop people from using ai).
the âai-generatedâ tag is not there so that you can freely harass people with no consequences.
(about a problematic ship) actually i think the power dynamics should get more unbalanced and they should have less respect for each other's autonomy and they should violate more boundaries and commucate worse and fuse together in a tangled mass of tragedy until the lines between them blur and vanish and they are one single unified embodiment of unending worship

Expanding a thought from a conversation this morning:
In general, I think "Is X out-of-character?" is not a terribly useful question for a writer. It shuts down possibility, and interesting directions you could take a character.
A better question, I believe, is "What would it take for Character to do X?" What extremity would she find herself in, where X starts to look like a good idea? What loyalties or fears leave him with X as his only option? THAT'S where a potentially interesting story lies.
In practice, I find that you can often justify much more from a character than you initially dreamed you could: some of my best stories come from "What might drive Character to do [thing he would never do]?" As long as you make it clear to the reader what the hell pushed your character to this point, you've got the seed of a compelling story on your hands.
My biggest tip for fanfic writers is this: if you get a character's mannerisms and speech pattern down, you can make them do pretty much whatever you want and it'll feel in character.
Logic: Characters, just like real people, are mallable. There is typically very little that's so truly, heinously out of character that you absolutely cannot make it work under any circumstance. In addition, most fans are also willing to accept characterization stretches if it makes the fic work. Yeah, we all know the villain and the hero wouldn't cuddle for warmth in canon. But if they did do that, how would they do it?
What counts is often not so much 'would the character do this?' and more 'if the character did do this, how would they do it?' If you get 'how' part right, your readers will probably be willing to buy the rest, because it will still feel like their favourite character. But if it doesn't feel like the character anymore, why are they even reading the fic?
Worry less about whether a character would do something, and more about how they'd sound while doing it.
I don't remember where I saw this piece of advice so I can't credit it, unfortunately
But it was along the lines of "instead of asking whether something is out of character, ask 'what would it take for this character to do this'"
Which I think fits really nicely with this advice of making the actual action itself also feel in character
Edit: Here's the post I'm referencing!
Thank you to @amindamazed for the correction!

my favorite genre of fictional character is like "i am terrifying to almost everyone, i'm very good at killing, i can endure anything, i've become exceptionally good at playing into my reputation, and if you try to give me positive social interaction i will react with confusion and cower in a corner like an abused animal. and i may try to shoot you. but there is also a chance i may imprint on you like a feral dog receiving its first loving touch! good luck."
"why did you write that"
my fetish
my friend's fetish
not my fetish but it fits in the story so i threw it in there as a treat. you're welcome.

I do really love it when women write graphic and fucked up things. I feel like so often people react to fucked up fiction with âof course a disgusting man would write this đâ and it often carries an unspoken (honestly sometimes spoken) message of âa womanâs PURE and DELICATE and FEMININE mind could NEVER think of something this VILEâ. Thank you women in fucked up fiction đ«Ą
genuinely i donât think itâs possible to easily explain the explicit part of online friendships to people who donât Understand. i donât mean like, explicit in the sense of âoh youâre sextingâ or whatever. no. i mean when you and your friend start gleefully making up explicit sexual scenarios for your shared blorbos and you get giddier and giddier as you add more detail and youâll be grinning at your screen as you type away at mach speeds. and itâs entirely nonsexual in an interpersonal sense, youâre not really getting Into it, but ohhhhh itâs soooooo fun and satisfying. and you can NEVER tell someone who doesnât also do this that your mood is actively improved like fivefold because you and your friend played Sexual Tuoys together because theyâll go âwhat the FUCK.â

the bad news: I now hate my current wip and strongly believe there isn't a single joke in it that lands
the good news: I know my process enough to recognize this as the slump that I hit in everything I write when it's like three-quarters-ish done
the bad news: the only way out is through
the good news: I do know the way out!
the bad news: yeah but it's through
