something that i find very interesting is buzzfeed and its contributors’ obsessions with pointing out flawed characters in movies and tv. i just read an “article” about men in movies that sucked. and some of them (for example, joey donner from “10 things i hate about you” and martin addison from “love, simon”) absolutely suck, but that’s the whole point of their character and personality. like joey donner is the fucking villain in that movie, and martin addison backstabbed simon. the viewers are not supposed to like them, so making an entire list of male characters that are irritating (ON PURPOSE) and calling it journalism is so terrible.

that being said, there are some characters that the audience is supposed to like, but their whole personality is insufferable. e.g. ted moseby from himym, ross geller from friends, and any other “nice guy.” but to complain about villainous characters for being villainous and bad is the worst shit i’ve ever heard
