“You’re the big brother. It’s your job to give up the fries to the younger, cuter sibling.”
“Who ever said you were the cuter sibling? Becuase I always heard it was all me!”
BETH WATSON
“Dr. Shepherd! Hi! Um, yes, that would be me. I was told that I’m on your service today.”
“That you are.” Closing the file before handing it off to the nurse to discharge one of his easier cases, the dark haired man came to his feet. “I’ve heard you have had a particular drive towards neuro.”
like for a starter from derek. i am slowly getting icons made ( almost done with season eleven and about to start iconing ten ) and so that gives me more muse/variety. at the moment most starters may be gared more towards later seasons as a warning. if you want something fromearlier seasons, please message me.
IZZY CASSIDY
“Just a 911 that’s not much of a 911 anymore. Some unexpected complications came up. Hopefully I didn’t call you out of anything too important.”
“It’s fine, did someone from neuro already come down and clear it?” He asked as he picked the tablet up off the counter. Whether it was a 911 that calmed down or not, Derek’s own personal experience with doctors skipping tests because it cleared up never ended well.
LIZZIE
“It’s honestly gotten to the point where I’m surprised she even has a practice come October on the East Coast.” When the chief had called and offered Lizzie the position in pediatrics, she wasn’t going to lie and say that she wasn’t excited to accept. Being on the same coast as Derek and Amelia hadn’t happened since she was in college. Plus–escaping their mother? That was always a good thing. “Oh–thirty some off years experience? Nope. You and Amy can fight over the brain department yourselves. I’m here to work on the cute little kids. But I am kinda counting on you to give me the tour of the place.” Why was she getting flashbacks of highschool?
Derek beamed. “I’ll give it time before she finally moves down to southern California or Arizona to be where it never rains.” It was nice to have Lizzie in Seattle. Sure, growing up they were not extremely close like he was with Amelia. But family had always meant the world to him. From his mother and sisters to his wife and children. Even if it was hard to tell, family did rise higher than work. And he had to learn that the very hard way. At her comment about how he and Amy could keep the fight going over brains, his smile grew larger. That was the sly comments that he missed about her. “So you just came here to watch Amy and I fight as you hang out and play with the toys? But I guess I have some time off that I can show you around. Maybe show you where the good cafe is around the hospital for lunch.”
CALLIE
“That’s the spirit – although it kind of backfires if she finds you, cause it’s not like you can run anywhere. You’ll just be stuck there, in that OR, being lectured.” She couldn’t help but smile at the visual, a small laugh escaped her lips. Carrying the baby, Callie made her way deeper into the kitchen. She looked through the cabinets, glad that she knew the house so well – Derek clearly didn’t need another person to take care of. “Is that it over there?” She asked, motioning towards the couch as she pulled a juice box for Bailey out of the fridge.
“I would rather not think about that happening.” He joked before the motion of Callie pulled his focus over to the diaper bag on the edge of the couch. Quickly, Derek moved over to grab the bag before souring the living room for the odds and ends that were scattered around the room. Shoving diapers, wipes, a few onsies from the laundry basket on the kitchen table that needed to be put away for the last four days. “What else goes in the baby bag, Callie?” It was a stupid question, one that a father of three should not be asking. But with a begging tone to his voice, showed just how much of a mess he was.
MEREDITH
“Bailey, you gotta stay with me.” The father of three spoke towards the blonde, long haired toddler. With his five month old daughter on his hip, a bright pink backpack on his back, after Zola left it in the car when he dropped her off at school, a diaper bag that felt rather light, and his son in dinosaur pajama pants and his batman shirt trying to swerve through the other members of Grey-Sloan, the blue eyed surgeon kept them open and on watch. Not only to be sure he didn’t run into anyone or lose his son through the many souls of the hospital, but for his wife. Because he knew, once she saw the sight he was going to be in for it. Coming closer to the day care and the feeling of relief of this working out in his favor, the sounds of his son’s voice yelling ‘mommy’ ahead of him made his heart drop into the pit of his stomach. He was BUSTED.

“Please. You’ll get over it. Besides, they’re a lot cuter than you.”
“Hey now, you and I both know they get their good looks from their dad. Plus, I thought after all the years you took my fries that you owed me at least two or three!”

“Really?” Derek scoffed in a playful hurt tone. “I can’t have just one french-fry but yet you let my kids steal every last one off your plate without a word? That’s low Amy. I thought we were closer than that.”
CALLIE
“I mean…who doesn’t love dinosaurs?” Callie asked, a sympathetic smile on her lips. She started to bounce Ellie on her hip, looking around at the chaos that Derek’s morning had left behind. “You probably won’t get too much of a lecture – maybe if you’re lucky, she won’t even see him. Which is kind of terrible if you think about it, but if the alternative is you being…scolded, oh well. Seriously though – what else do you need to do? I’m here. Let me help.”
“Or at least if she does see him, I will get lucky and be clear on the other side of the building with my hands within someone’s skull.” Chuckling softly as the chaos began to sink in once more, the father had to keep moving forward as he was asked what else he needed done. “Uhh –– Bailey is pretty much dressed and Zola should be right down. Um, crap, I think we cleaned out the diaper bag last night but never repacked it. Can you get Bailey a granola bar and an apple juice for him to take on the way to the hospital and I will get the diaper bag thrown together?” If it wasn’t bluntly obvious now that Derek was a mess when he was alone with the kids, he was not sure what it would take. “If ––– i can find it.”

Waking up beside his wife’s hospital bed where she slept, the tired eyed husband moved his joints up and out into the hall to hunt down some sort of coffee to wake him up just in case something were to happen. To say Derek Shepherd was a mess was a vast understatement. The one day he had off and away from the hospital to spend with his children was the very day his wife had been attacked by a patient. Leaving Meredith so broken and damaged it broke every fiber of his heart each and every time he looked over at her. But even with Meredith so damaged, he rarely did leave far from her side – unless it was for food, coffee, or to be sure their children were alright. Nearly colliding with the red headed man he had grown a strong friendship with, Derek had to readjust himself as to not look too out of it. “Sorry Owen.”
CALLIE
Callie stole a look at him, chewing on her bottom lip – he probably had a point, but it wasn’t like there was a clear cut manual on how to handle THREE kids on your own – especially when even one could feel like a handful. Though it’d been some time since she’d last had to change a diaper, her hands moved with just as much certainty as if it’d been just yesterday. “But at least they’re cute animals.” She said with a laugh, watching as Derek managed to scoop Bailey into his arms. She brought the baby back into her arms, balancing her against one hip. Callie kissed Ellis’s forehead, a smile on her lips. “Very, very cute animals.”
“They are cute, when they are clean.” Setting his son down after finally getting his dinosaur pajama pants on the right way – for Derek was blind to the fact all of Bailey’s real pants were still in the washer, soaking wet – and his batman tee-shirt checked for stains. His eyes moved back towards the now clean baby in Callie’s arms as he tried to keep his head on straight in the midst of the chaos as time was closing in on when they needed to be out of the house. Leaving him no time to try to dig for something nicer to put on Bailey. “How much of a lecture do you think I will get from Meredith if I just take Bailey to daycare in that?”
