☀️ Happy solstice, everyone! ☀️

The endless rain and unseasonably cool weather have broken for the occasion where I live and we actually have a beautiful, sunny, warm Litha to spend outdoors. Thank you, mother nature!

I did not get up before the sun.. Oh well. Sleep is important. Next year? Yep. Always that. 😄

Being an ADHD witch, I did not plan anything for today... (Oops.) It's okay if you didn't either!

I think what I'll do is a tarot/rune reading; clean the house quickly (lol good one, nova); and hang out outside all day with my best and oldest friend, doing yard work, tending plants, spotting critters, and generally enjoying the glory of the sun. Bloody marys in hand, I think. Perhaps we'll also have a bonfire as and after the sun sets. Yessss, sounds lovely indeed. 🤗

This spring has awakened a whole new side of me. I've suddenly become obsessed with sprouting, raising, tending, harvesting, and learning everything I can about plants. I've begun identifying and researching every bit of flora as well as fauna that I come across. My desire for this knowledge is thoroughly unyielding, and I love it. My front porch is filled with hundreds of herb, tree, and flower seedlings that will soon be in the earth, and I want to spend every minute with them.

Dandelions

Yellow and happy. Super strong and resilient. Everyone hates them and they don’t care. Makes a good “kick” in garden salads. 

White Clover

Small and gentle. Always has 50 friends around them. Little dots of white and pink. Looks like a Faerie would turn it into a dress

Pigweed

BIG BOI. When I was little I used to think they looked like pot. So green and strong and taller than me.

Creeping Charlies

Bees love them! Blue! Happy! Gets absolutely everywhere! I’ve never loved something so annoying! Just look at them

Burdock

SCARY BOI. Her mom thinks she’s going through a phase. But it’s NOT a phase.

St John’s Wart

So pretty! And yellow! It reminds me of Daffodils! Old doctors would use it as a medicine because it was the old times!

Common Blue Violet

All-over-gorgeous green and purple ground cover. Sweet, tasty, and deceptively tenacious. More vitamin C than most vegetables!

The lawn of my quarter-acre yard is now about 70% violets, creeping charlie (aka ground ivy), dandelion, white clover, and wild strawberry. Hoping for 100% in the next couple of years by just continuing to let them be and randomly pulling out the grass around them. Fuck grass. Wildflower weed lawns for life!

So many new green friends! 🤗

So, I used to smoke cigarettes (quit four years ago today, woo!), and I used be signed up for coupons from my preferred cigarette brand. After quitting, I changed my account to say I'd quit and to stop sending coupons, and they complied.

Randomly, however, they sent me something for my birthday this year. But it wasn't a coupon, or just a card, there wasn't an ad, or anything even mentioning smoking whatsoever...

They sent me basil seeds, a "sprout pouch", soil pellets, and instructions. 🤗

I thought this was just the cutest thing!

Now I've got 24 little sprouts of free basil, waiting to be transplanted, cared for, and made into lots and lots of pesto, bunny food, and cocktails. Yay!
