A/N: It's been sooo long since I've watched the show, so forgive me if anything's inaccurate! Part 2 coming as soon as I figure out what I want to do with this :)
Summary: It's been two days since the Collector was released, and both Gus and Mattholumule are struggling, whether that be trying to get used to life in the human realm, or trying to stay alive while simultaneously trying not to remember the events of the past few months.
The human appreciation club.
The detention room.
The graveyard.
He couldn’t have imagined it, could he? All the subtle touches, the smiles, the looking away and refusing to make eye contact.
Yet, there it was, the voice in the back of his head, constantly saying “he never liked you, you’re reading too much into it”. And now here he was. In the human realm. Where the rain didn’t scorch off your skin and giraffes were real. I’ll probably never see him again. What did it matter? It wasn’t like they could’ve ever actually been anything… right?
It had been two days since the Collector took over the Boiling Isles. Two days since the end of the world as he knew it. Two days since he left. Mattholomule kept playing the scenes over and over again in his head, re-watching Augustus leave him forever. But what did it matter? Gus hated him, always had. If only I’d said something before he left, if only I’d tried harder– Mattholomule cut himself off before he got any farther, his hands shaking as he ran them through his hair. Get a grip, Matt. He stood up from the gym floor of Hexside and dusted off his pants, looking around to make sure nobody was watching before rubbing his eyes to stop any tears. Boys don’t cry. He walked over to the stage and hoisted himself up the front of it, sitting down for a second as he looked out around the gym, before standing up and walking behind the curtain. Mattholumule sulked over to his corner of the backstage area, sitting down on the beanbag chair he’d stolen from the baby class and reaching for a bag of chips he’d gotten from a vending machine the other day. With his brother gone, he’d had to rely on what little of his lunch money was left for food every day, often refusing anything the other students tried to share. Mattholomule stared glumly down at the chip bag, lost in thought…
It was right after the incident at the Looking Stone Ruins. Mattholomule’s friends from Glandis had already stormed off in anger, and only he and Gus had remained. Gus sat down on the broken pillar next to him, looking down at the Galdorstone he held in his hands. Mattholumule drew a spell circle, and the nearby pillar rebuilt itself, settling back into place with a gentle thud. Gus looked over at him and smiled softly, and Mattholumule looked away, face red.
“That’s a cool trick,” said Augustus, still looking at the other boy.
“Oh, it’s really nothing. Just a bit of construction magic…” mumbled Mattholumule, finally looking up at Gus. The two were silent for a bit. Did he imagine it, or was Gus leaning in ever so slightly? The air felt thick with tension, before something buzzed loudly. Gus pulled away quickly, checking his scroll, before chuckling a bit.
“Well, looks like I’d better be getting home. I don't want my dad getting mad again. You know, last time he-” Mattholumule cut him off by grabbing the front of his shirt and pulling Gus towards him, kissing him. Both the Galdorstone and the scroll fell out of Gus’ hands, and Mattholumule felt him relax into the kiss, moving his hands up to touch Mattholumule’s face, before Mattholumule quickly pulled away, eyes wide and chest feeling tight. Gus looked slightly surprised, tilting his head a bit and opening his mouth to say something. “I-” Mattholumule stood up abruptly, running his hand through his hair and turning towards the other boy, face red.
“Well, looks like it’s getting dark,” he said, voice shaking, “I’ll go ahead and head back to town now.” Gus stood up as well, reaching out a hand to try and stop him, but Mattholumule was already walking away, shaking his head before breaking into a run, dashing into the forest and hiding behind a tree. He clutched his chest and sank to the forest floor, letting himself cry for the first time.

“why can’t poc just make their own redesigns and we can keep these ones” why cant you realize that your actions have consequences and that you should maybe try to not enforce racist stereotypes??
like ofc its ideal to have VARIETY among both villains AND protagonists, its when your characters look like this
