Lets be real though. It is a goddamn shame that the opportunity to really explore a) what it means to be a woman in Thedas and b) what it means specifically to be a woman who loves women in Thedas, is never really seized to its full potential. Like, the setup is there to easily talk about how women are idolized as a theoretical thing (Andraste) but treated like garbage in practice (pretty much every female character ever).
And the moment a female character becomes unavailable to a male player, either because she's a lesbian or "too mean" to them? They make the Straight Sera mod and Slap Morrigan mod, etc.
And then of course there is specifically the misogynoir over characters like Isabela and Vivienne and even minor characters like Teia I've seen some real bad behaviour from fans about... Let alone the treatment they get from the actual devs themselves, because that shit is like a disease the way creators and fans just pass it back and forth.
i really like how the milkman exists as an entirely fossilized character who now serves no purpose other than to fuck people's wives for the punchline
Anti-city people are just plain fascinating to me
Tbf there's good reasons to not do mini-shopping each day, but like. If you live close to a shopping mart you *do* just push the trolley filled with your bags? And then bring it back? It's not a lot of effort in exchange for only having to deal with that amount of noise once a week????
You can also just buy your own folding cart. They're pretty cheap!
in a lot of major cities in the United States, you cannot take the shopping cart farther than the perimeter of the parking lot because either the wheels will lock, or store security will harass you. you very very much cannot take the shopping cart home with you.
so, yeah, a lot of people who live in the city and walk/public transpo to and from grocery stores either bring two or three very sturdy bags, their backpacks, or as @transarsonist said, a folding cart!
but this also means that people shop strategically--if there's something big they need, sure, they may drive, or they will plan ahead for that shopping trip and bring multiple people, or get the littler, less cumbersome items at another point in the week.
i can't describe to you how incredibly freeing it is to be able to walk/bike/public transpo to the places you need to go for the things you need. i wish more places were accessible like that in practice, not just theory (and even in USian big cities, there's a lot more theory than practice).
also, if the big supermarket is across town and you're doing a big shop, you normally take the bus. Most supermarkets have a bus stop outside specifically for this purpose. It turns what could be a long walk with a half-dozen big bags into 2 or 3 streets for most people.
If for whatever reason that isn't doable, there's always delivery. This is absolutely a solved problem.
i mean the core point of a "walkable neighborhood" like, a real one, is that you never really have to do that because theres an acceptable store every 6 blocks in every direction, and a corner store with snacks and some basics every couple of blocks, so you can usually get everything you need by making maybe one or two 3 block trips from any given point on the map.
the antithesis of the walkable city is for the supermarket to be in a space zoned "for super markets" where you would have to take the bus there.
That's even pretty low-intense walkable. The thing is that in cities like that, almost all the street-level slots are commercial, so it's shops all around, under the houses where people live. So more like a couple of corner stores per block, plus a mid-sized supermarket every couple.
Pictured: supermarket and grocery stores a few blocks away from my house, in the suburbs of Madrid:
(all this is 5 minutes by walk from my house)

The World Is Celebrating Eid. My Family Is Melting Inside a Tent in Gaza

Dear friends of Palestine, friends of Gaza and friends of my family in Gaza!
FINALLY!!! We are at 99% of our goal in our campaign to evacuate the living hell of Gaza and rebuild our life in Ireland!
While people post Eid outfits, food, and family photos, my family in Gaza is trying to survive another day of bombs, hunger, fear, and unbearable heat.
There is NO safe place left in Gaza.
The bombardment continues every single day. The explosions never stop. And now summer has turned the tents they live in into literal ovens.
Imagine trying to sleep inside plastic and fabric under a burning sky while drones and airstrikes continue around you.
This is NOT a temporary hardship. My family has lived through this nightmare for more than two years.
Two years of displacement. Two years of terror. Two years of watching their lives collapse piece by piece.
I am in Ireland, studying and trying to build a future, while every day I fear getting the phone call that my family did not survive the night.
We have already come such a long way thanks to the incredible support from friends of Gaza and Palestine around the world. Truly, we would never have made it this far without you.
And now we are VERY close to reaching our final goal.
Our only goal is to evacuate my entire family from Gaza to Egypt temporarily, and then reunite safely together in Ireland.
Please do NOT abandon Gaza and my family because the headlines got quieter. Please don’t stop caring because the world moved on.
Share this. Reblog this. Donate if you can. Help me get my family out alive before it’s too late.

From a hospital bed… Najah is calling out to you .💔
My name is Najah. I am not just a number in a medical report, nor just another patient in a hospital room. I am a girl with dreams, a mother waiting for my recovery, and a home waiting for my return.
Today I am writing to you with a tired hand… but my hope is not tired. The doctors confirmed that my treatment is possible and that my condition can improve, but time is not unlimited, and support makes the difference.
Imagine that a very simple decision from people who do not even know me could be the line between pain and healing, between staying on this bed and returning to life again.
Here, on this bed, every small act of support can turn into a heartbeat of hope, a chance to stand again, and a real beginning of recovery.
Pain is hard… and waiting is harder… but the hardest part is knowing that survival is close, yet still needs just one small step.
I am not asking anyone to carry this burden alone. All I need are hearts coming together through small steps that complete this journey.
With your support, I can rise, and with your support, I can return to my dreams, and with your support, my name “Najah” can truly become “success.”
Please… do not let this message pass in silence. One step from you could be the beginning of a new life for me. 💔
Najah , her mother, will not forget your silence, and she will not forgive a heart that didn't move, or a hand that didn't reach outEvery donation, every share, every word of support... could be the difference between life and death for Najah
She is suffering from a severe calcium and iron deficiency... her body is weak, and her life hangs between hope and danger.
Treatment, vitamins, and nutrients can save her
Every donation, every share, every word of support... could be the difference between life and death for her
Donate now and give Najah a chance at life!
Najah lives with her family in extremely harsh conditions where suffering and illness are deeply intertwined. Her husband is injured and urgently needs surgery, but he is unable to receive treatment, which places an even greater burden on the family and leaves Najah carrying the responsibility alone.
Amid this hardship, life in the tents becomes even more difficult, with the spread of insects and rodents causing illnesses and infections, especially among children. Every day turns into a struggle for survival in unsafe and extremely difficult living conditions.
Please… do not leave Najah and her family alone. 💔
Time is passing harshly, the need is urgent, and every moment of delay increases the pain and weakens hope.
Sharing this message or donating even a small amount could be the real difference between continued suffering and the beginning of a new life.
Do not underestimate a small step from you.
it may be the reason a whole life is saved. 💔

It’s actually crazy how bad feeling bad feels
A mother's plea: Help us survive and protect my child who was born in war.
My name is Sahar. Like any young woman, I dreamed of a stable and happy life. I was engaged to Mohammad, and together, we dreamed of building a warm little home where we could start our life. We spent years preparing our house, but just before our wedding, everything was destroyed in an instant by the war.
I was faced with a choice: to leave Mohammad in the midst of this chaos or to stand by him and begin our journey together, no matter how difficult it might be. I chose him. We got married, not in the dream wedding I had envisioned, but under the harsh reality of war. Our new home became a fragile tent, offering neither comfort nor security.
After we got married, I received the news that I was pregnant with my daughter, and I live in constant fear for my unborn child. I am terrified of the world she will be born into—a world of poverty, hunger, and bitter cold. We have been displaced from our home more than nine times, carrying with us nothing but the burden of loss and the hope of survival. The house we dreamed of is now rubble, and the tent we live in barely protects us from the rain and cold. How will I protect my daughter? We struggle to find enough food. Basic necessities like milk, blankets, and clothing feel impossibly out of reach. The cost of survival has become unbearable. Every night, I am haunted by the thought: how can I bring her into this world, knowing I cannot keep her safe?
After a long pregnancy filled with pain and fear, after nights without sleep, I finally gave birth to my baby girl. She was born in the middle of bombing, surrounded by destruction and poverty—not in a warm room, not in a safe place. Her first cry mixed with the sound of explosions, as if she was announcing her arrival into a cruel world she never chose.
I gave birth to her with nothing but my heart. I cannot promise her anything. Poverty surrounds us from every side, and the cold reaches her tiny body before night even comes. My baby and I are suffering deeply, not because we ask for much, but because I am unable to provide her with the most basic needs: milk, warmth, and safety.
When I look into her eyes, I feel strength. When I look at my empty hands, I break down in tears. I am a mother trying to save her child from hunger and fear, in a world that has shown no mercy even to the dreams of children.😢🥹

My mother is slowly losing her strength… and a week ago, my hepatitis came back.
We are collapsing at the same time. There is no stability, no relief — only fear of what tomorrow might bring.
I am watching her suffer while fighting my own body. This is not drama. This is our reality.
If you see this and stay silent, understand that we were asking for help in our darkest moment.

💔 From Gaza… where suffering has become daily life 💔
I am from Gaza — a father whose only goal is to keep his children alive. Our home was destroyed 🏚️,
and we no longer have a place to shelter. We move from one place to another, searching for safety, warmth, and a piece of bread 🍞.
My children go to sleep hungry 😢,and my wife and daughter were injured and are still living with pain 💔.
There is no work, no income, and no certainty about tomorrow — only fear.In Gaza, we do not dream big dreams. We only dream of a day that passes in peace 🌅,
a meal that fills our children’s stomachs, and a night where they can sleep withouut the sound of bombing. This is not just a story of sorrow, but the testimony of a human being trying to survive, clinging to life despite everything.Gaza is not numbers.
Gaza is faces, children, and hearts that grow tired — but never surrender 🇵🇸

My name is Nour, I’m 18 years old. I once dreamed of becoming a doctor—to help people, to heal, to bring hope. I studied hard and believed that education was my way out😭.
But the war took everything.💔
In a single moment, my home was destroyed. Everything I loved—my books, my memories, my dreams—was buried under rubble.😭😭💔💔
Now, I live with my family in a torn tent. It doesn’t protect us from the cold or the burning heat. We have no food, no clean water, no safety—nothing.😭😭💔💔
Every night we sleep not knowing what tomorrow will bring: a chance at life… or more pain.🍉🍉
My mother is elderly and needs care. I used to dream of helping others, but today I can’t even help my own family.💔🍉
I’m reaching out to every kind heart reading this: please, help us. Any amount, any support, means the world.🙏🙏💔🍉
Your kindness could help us survive… and maybe, one day, I’ll return to school and chase my dream again.❤️

My name is Karam Al-Nabih, a software engineer from Gaza. I worked hard for years to build my future, believing that my education and skills would give me a stable career and a better life.
But everything changed.
The war didn’t just take homes—it destroyed the entire economy. Companies shut down, projects stopped, and all job opportunities disappeared. As a programmer, I now have no work, no income, and no way to continue my career.
There is no stable electricity, no reliable internet, and no environment where I can work or even apply for jobs. Even remote work has become almost impossible.
I didn’t lose just a job— I lost my entire future.
Today, I am trying to support my family in a place where there are no opportunities left. The economic situation in Gaza has completely collapsed, and young professionals like me have no path forward.
I am asking for your support to help me rebuild my life, regain stability, and find a way to work again.
Any help, no matter how small, can give me a chance to start over.
