Dinnerware is always ready to serve you. Ready to honor your wishes. Ready to endulge you with culinary delicacies. Ready to impress your guests with well defined lines and shiny surfaces. There are so many things in my home that support my everyday plans. I want to acknowledge them and thank them for their willingness to have my back. I lived at an apartment close to my college for around 5 years. While living there, nothing ever broke. The bathroom or the sink never needed service. They never had a malfunction or leak. I had the same appliances for the duration of my stay. After moving from that apartment, I realized how lucky I was for that place. Although, I was happy to move to a new town. Yesterday, I spent some time in nature. Feeling the fallen leaves crackle on the ground as I walked. Feeling the soft ground cave as I stepped on it. Letting the greenery take over all my senses. Walk among the hybernating branches and know that they are resting for the season. Feel the subtle warmth of the sun in my skin and trust that it's there everyday. A succulent garden is always ready to impress me with a wide spectrum of greens. In addition they come in varied shapes and sizes. These plants are very beautiful and somewhat easy to care. I have several at home. One of my favorites is a cactus that looks like a succulent. The Zyosia blooms twice a year. It has beautiful dark pink flowers that hang from its leaves. My mom nurtured this plant like a baby. I'm thankful that it's still alive under my care 🤤. This plant reminds me of my dear mom and her love for nature. She loved roses and vivid color flowers. She would cut flesh flowers from the garden almost everyday and display them on the dinning room table. Her touch as she arrange the small bouquet was enchanting. She truly enjoyed beautiful things. Over the weekend, I went to see the movie The Foreigner. It has a good storyline. The aspects I noticed most were the dynamics in relationships. There's a father/daughter and a husband/wife relationships. The lost time, the missed opportunities, and the misunderstandings. The feelings of despair a father feels when the unexpected happens to his daughter. The decision to keep appearances in a loveless marriage. The endless need to supply one's needs, and form connections with people that will not reciprocate it. Friends and family may not satisfy our needs because we have not made those needs clear to them. When feelings are not expressed, it's easy to end up in bad relationships but not because of the people around us, but because of our own insecurities. Assumptions and lack of communication can make us do things that go against our own values. The need for love and connection are stronger than the promises made long ago. Vulnerability is essential to get my needs met by my loved ones. Am I expressing my needs to my loved ones? The importance of time spent discovering new places and culinary tastes, must be a line item in your monthly calendar. Staying in and reading a book is not a date with yourself. Reading in general doesn't stimulate most of your sences. The main point here is to engage your five main senses: sight; hearing; tactile; smell; and taste. Now that you have decided to have a date with yourself, where do you go? 1- A Stroll around the neighborhood 2- A walk in the park 3- A fall hike in a preserve 4- A bike ride 5- A stroll by the boardwalk or shoreline 6- Exploring new restaurants in your area 7- A culinary street fare (cultural street fares) 8- A horse backride 9- A discovery walk in your town's commercial area (or any other town) 10- A stroll at a museum 11- A rollercoaster ride 12- Visits to gardens (Botanical, Estates, museums) 13- A pumpkin patch visit (any other harvest in your area) 14- A visit to zoos, animal farms or Aquariums. 15- Music venues, festivals, concerts, etc The list goes on and on, but the point is to have a good time with yourself. There are supports systems all around us. We need to recognize them to appreciate them. I once volunteered my time to assist cook for a church event. I have always been happy and willing to volunteer my time to charities. Well, another girl and I had been assigned to helped the chef in charge of dinner for that particular day. We all spent the whole day preparing, cooking, and cleaning. Before dinner time, a person approached the chef and complemented her on all the food on display and said "It's so great that everything is ready, how did you do it? While making a martyr face, chef said "I did it all by myself" Needless to say, this was the last time either of us volunteered our time to help this particular chef. I personally didn't want to be associated with a person that lies blatantly in front of my face. But in hindsight I realized that the chef really felt alone. This was her reality, no matter how much help she received, she always felt that she was carrying the world on her shoulders. Since she felt alone, she was left alone. In early October I started a thankful journal, every day listing 3 things I'm thankful for. I want to make an effort to notice the help I receive everyday. Awareness is the key to noticing the support system around me. This weekend I went to a sound bath maditation with my friend Katherine. The meditation was relaxing, invigorating, and calming. It consisted of laying in a relaxed position, listening to acoustic sounds. Some of the tones are gongs, rattles, triangles, crystal bowls, signing bowls, metal instruments echoing (similar to sharpening knifes), wind chimes, chanting, and waves crashing. All of these sounds were done live in the salon by two instructors. The echoes of the tones made the seven layers of my skin vibrate to their rhythm. We were instructed to concentrate on one note at a time and to pay attention to the gaps between the notes. By the end of the class my skin was vibrating to the smallest notes played. My heart was vibrating similar to the ripples formed by droping a stone in a calm body of water. 💓💓 During the class my body temperature dropped, conveniently, the salon provides blankets to cover your body, which you can use as a pillow. The last breathing exercises bring the whole meditation together. I felt very light and almost floating after these exercises. ☁⛅ The instructor mentioned that we may have strong emotional reactions. I haven't felt any yet but for 5 seconds I saw a vision of brushing my dog's hair 🐕😁. I highly recommend listening to this meditation or visiting places that offer it. The place I went to was @eastriverpilates in Brooklyn. It's fall in New York and mother nature has been so good to the northeast. In my opinion, this year has been great, 70 degree weather, sunny days, and minimal precipitation. This is the perfect time to go visit your botanical and outdoor museums and gardens. The leaves are changing, the trees are going in hibernation mode, and the birds are migrating. Sometimes I feel like a malabarist in the circus of life. With the constant concern that something will fall off the wagon. A bill will not get paid on time, an appointment will be missed and on and on. The anxiety of waiting for the other shoe to drop 👡 I'm taking stock of my schedule and making it seamlessly. Making sure to keep what brings me the most joy. Paying bills does not bring me joy, but when I think of the services I get in return, that brings me joy. Keeping track of bill payment: 1- Schedule all your bill payments to be paid directly from your bank account. It's safe, free, and hassle free. 2- In your online banking, schedule payments to be recurring. Estimate the amount due, adjust payments every month of make another payment for the difference. 3- Once a month review your bank account. Pay attention to automatic scheduled payments. Review deposits and withdrawals. 4- Once a month review your utility/credit card bills. Confirm that the prior month payment has been credited to your account. The banking industry has made bill payment easy for consumers. As a consumer, I have taken advantage of the online banking tools. They have brought me peace of mind. Once I have my counters clear, cleaning becomes a breeze. Do you want to inspire your kids on the culinary art? Have one of them as an assistant chef. Once you have organized yourself on the recipe. They can do all the steps below for you. Prep for cooking: 1- Gather all the pots, bowls, utensils, and spices the recipe calls for. 2- Place all used dishes in the dishwasher right away. 3- Once the appliances and spices have been used, put them back in their 'home'. 4- Wipe surfaces as you go 5- Enjoy the fruit of your labor...
