i like the phrases "it's not for me," "it's not my thing," and "i'm not the target audience" because they're the most concise way to express "this thing that you enjoy has merits but idgaf about it" without being aggressive

do you think in fantasy settings with long-lived elves where elf-human relationships become common you’d have discourse about whether it’s unethical to pursue a human in your first century because your life with them basically functions as like, training wheels for the rest of your life. like regardless of whether or not it’s true, i bet there’d be a common feeling that elves who do that and then end up with another elf later are basically just using the human’s whole lifespan for character development and then moving on to a longer-term relationship they actually have to take seriously. and then there’d be a reaction that’s like how are those marriages less ethical than a centuries-old elf getting with a human with vastly less life experience, and also obviously in the first example it’s actually the human who’s problematic for being more relatively mature than the elf

i DO believe that a good writer can make mischaracterization work. oh there's a character who doesn't normally cry? figure it out!! dissect the character. make the situation cryable for them. make that character cry ugly tears even if it goes against their very nature. YOU CAN MAKE IT WORK!!!

I love how some fics are called shit like "They Only Shoot The Birds Who Cannot Sing" and it's like the most insane porn you're ever read and then some fics are called Spit On Me and it's 18,000 words of the most achingly id-scratching prose you've ever read and they're both. my worst habit as a writer is that i lovveeeeee to expand on families as character and worldbuilding but then i have to sit here like. is there any possible way for me to introduce "has an aunt whos a postal worker and single mother trying to bounce back from a recent divorce' into the narrative. can i naturally drop my aunt lore. its important to me.
