My friend Ahmed is one of many children suffering from the effects of malnutrition due to Israel's manufactured famine. He now has severe anemia and the doctor has told him that he urgently needs a source of stable nutrition.

Further, the reason why so many Japanese shows made it into the USA in the past in the first place was precisely because those in the USA saw these shows as inferior goods to be chopped up and sold to kids at a lesser cost to them than animating a whole show in the USA. Macross as a franchise was only recently able to come to the USA because Harmony Gold, the company that owns limited distribution rights to the original wanted to push their own sequels to Robotech sequel series, a series of sequels for Robotech, a show that they made by chopping up Chōjikū Yōsai Macross, Kikō Sōseiki MOSPEADA and Chōjikū Kidan Southern Cross. Harmony Gold did not want Macross' sequels to compete with their sequels, created in defiance of the original vision set forth by Kawamori (the original director), so they put sequels made by the actual original creators in a legal quagmire. Voltron, similarly, as a chopped together mess of multiple robot anime that barely justifies this fact and treats individual casts of characters as essentially exchangeable sets of characters, not characters from works with their own narrative and themes and messages.

Most localization changes that people make fun of happened unilaterally precisely because these people had never respected the original work. Like, yes, obviously, censors exist in the USA (though mentioning this to yanks make their head explode; censorship is for Bad Countries!), but would a respectful localizer push for Haruka and Michiru to be explicitly cousins rather than leaving it ambiguous enough to get past the censors that famously barely pay attention to things anyway? Is the Ghost Story dub really a funny haha better-than-original, or is it the localizers feeling alienated and upset at the very localized folklore-urban legend context, therefore not taking the work that more or less faithfully adapted a long-running and beloved children's novel series with the gravitas it deserved? Does the Detective Conan localization really benefit from changing every Japanese name to western one? Does any of this sound co-equal to anyone?

Any discussion of JP-EN as shared cultural spheres that treats Japan-USA cultural exchange as anything but the occupier plundering the cultural production of their occupied and doing as they pleased with it for close to 2 generations ignores much of history of anime in the West, especially the USA, and imagines a past where every show was given at least a pretension at a faithful-enough localization and physical media releases like Crunchyroll and Discotek media had popped up as soon as the USA started occupying Japan.
