While I understand and 100% respect that Jewish people who look stereotypically Jewish have a unique experience... this does not change the fact that there is no such thing as universal Jewish features and the idea of Jewish features is rooted in racism, anti-convert sentiment, and sometimes ancestral ashkenormativity.

All these photos are from long established Jewish communities, from Uganda, Ethiopian, The Lemba, India, Indonesia, Ashkenazi Jews, Kaifeng (Chinese) Jews, Tanzania, Yemenite Jews. All these people are ancestrally Jewish, most with a connection to Judaism/Jewish culture older or around a thousand years.

This goes to show that Jews, regardless of ancestry or lack thereof, are NOT connected by psychical features and trying to imply so is sooo problematic and wrong. Theres no such thing as universal Jewish features.

This also does not change the fact that... any one can have “stereotypically” Jewish features. I know converts w/ no Jewish heritage AND gentiles who have been pegged as Jewish due to have stereotypically Jewish features. And that needs to be acknowledged to.

Y’all need to recognize that black resistance isn’t interchangeable with other minorities. You can’t take the black out of “black lives matter” or “black excellence” or “black girl magic” and substitute it with “women” or “Asian” or “trans” or “gay” ect. Doing so really dilutes our message and it’s just another form of appropriation that harms black activism. You need to find your own forms of resistance and respect ours as intrinsically tied to blackness.

A thread like this was one of the things that made me realize I wanted to be Jewish. The idea that you could have a serious religious debate over a very silly hypothetical question, and that doing so would be considered neither blasphemous nor irrelevant but a way to strengthen one’s own religious knowledge, was AMAZING to me.

Me and one of my close undergrad friends used to come up with a couple of questions approximately this silly for our rabbi every single Shabbat. We apparently won the record for “stupidest question this rabbi had ever been asked” and this actually afforded us some level of bragging rights on campus. Judaism is just… like that.
