Some days I end up unable to stop thinking about how completely batshit Judenhass/Jew hate/antisemitism is. People will destroy themselves and their societies in order to hurt Jews, and why? This has been going on for over three thousand years. It's older than Christianity, it's older than the Roman Empire.

It sometimes makes you feel crazy to try and explain this shit to people because it is literally so fucking nuts how deeply entrenched and long-lived this stuff is. It makes you feel like a crazy "it's all connected!!!" conspiracy theorist to point out, say, the way antisemitism tends to be the root of all the other conspiracy theories, but the fact remains that it is absolutely true and you don't even really need to dig for it.
It's absolutely bonkers.
I had the absolutely bitter thought last week of "Well, it's going to be interesting to watch NYC's economy collapse like the Spanish economy did after the Expulsion."
I have yet to figure out how to not sound like a conspiracy theorist when I say things like "the UN, most major news agencies in Europe and the US to the left of Fox News, and most respected international human rights organizations, including the Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders are unreliable on this subject to the point where it is not uncommon for them to frame unrepentant terrorists as heroes, so you shouldn't trust anything they say rates of civilian, aid worker, health care worker, or journalist casualties," without sounding like the worst kind of conspiracy theorist, but it's fucking true, and we have the fucking evidence!!!
It might be easier to explain if you frame antisemitism as a long-standing cultural tradition.

I have a complicated relationship with Tim Burton's rendition of The Corpse Bride. I love it as a beautiful piece of stop motion art, but it isn't what it should have been, he took a Jewish story from the Pale and with intention stripped it of its Jewish origins. This alone is incredibly antisemitic. The criticism you will hear has probably been "this is a Jewish story, it should have retained its Jewish elements" but have you heard why we feel strongly about this story?
The story of the corpse bride is incredibly important to me and was born from Jewish trauma and Christian violence. Mobs would routinely attack Jewish weddings, they would murder brides and they would bury them in unmarked graves by the roadside still in their wedding clothes, they reasoned that without Jewish wives there are no Jewish mother's. Jews are intrinsic to the story.
It is antisemitism to take our story, about our pain, at the hands of non-jews and strip it for "useful" parts, in fact it is heartbreaking every time.
We are often forced to pick our battles and fighting a battle over a movie that has already been released by a director with a cult following is not worth it, you only hear us speak up in numbers when the antisemitism may lead to another century of violence, because raising our voice means picking a fight, because so many of you already see our pain as inconvenient and it is exhausting to never be heard.

Reminding everyone that antisemitism is one word. No space, no hyphen. Semitic is a linguistic category, a language can be Semitic but people can't be.

This doesn't mean that you shouldn't use the term antisemitism, but you should use it correctly, knowing that it has only ever meant hatred of Jews and can only mean this. Every once in a while, the magnitude of the Hamas massacre hits me all over again.
I'm not sure most people get it even now.
In absolute numbers, it is one of the three deadliest terrorist attacks in human history (second or third worst, depends on which estimates you trust for the Camp Speicher massacre), but if we take it in relation to the size of the population in the attacked country (which we should, because terrorism by its very nation seeks to victimizes through psychological trauma the entire target population, and not just those who were physically affected during the attack), then what Hamas did IS the single deadliest terrorist attack in the entirety of human history.
But it's even more than that.
Never, in any other attack, have the terrorists taken over as much land as Hamas did on Oct 7. ENTIRE TOWNS were under complete control of the terrorists, some for SEVERAL DAYS (I specifically remember watching a report on one town, where combat with the terrorists was still taking place on Oct 11, meaning on day 5 of this terrorist invasion into Israel). ENTIRE TOWNS WERE OCCUPIED. BY TERRORISTS. There's not a single Hollywood action movie dealing with such a scenario, because NOTHING OF THIS SCALE HAS EVER HAPPENED BEFORE. Imagine waking up and hearing in real time that the northern half of the American states Washington, Idaho and Montana has been taken by terrorists, who are driving through the streets freely, as they murder, pillage, rape, torture, maim, burn and kidnap people, and almost no one's there to stop them.
And then imagine the world expecting the US government to just... let the terrorists retreat to the other side of an international border in the north, after having murdered over 40,400 American, most of which are civilians, almost 183,000 more injured, and while taking with them across the border over 8,450 American hostages, to God knows what awful fate, for how long, or if they will even ever come back alive. Entire communities and regions would be devastated, without knowing if they'd be able to rebuild. The total would be more than 230,000 Americans directly impacted (I've adapted the real numbers from Oct 7 to the size of the American population... Remember the horrendous 9/11 attack, which saw 2,977 victims killed and a few thousands more injured, and think of what would be the emotional punch of over 230,000 direct victims).
Imagine expecting the US to let that go, and allow those terrorists to continue existing and ruling the land on its northern border. Imagine expecting the US to do so while this terrorist organization openly declares that it will repeat this large scale massacre whenever possible, until the entire country is destroyed.
And please don't come at me with "Fine, Israel can react, but not like this." Unless you have the military expertise to explain exactly how Israel can protect its people from this attack ever being repeated, and to free all our hostages, without civilian casualties (despite Hamas intentionally using them as human shields, and even directly causing Gazan deaths), unless you can translate the vague "not like this" into something practical, some actual guidelines on how this urban war could have been fought differently, even though there's no historical precedent to support that this is possible, "not like this" is just wishful thinking at the expense of the safety and right to live of Israelis.

Someone said "tornadoes aren't fucking around" and I thought, "I think all tornadoes do is fuck around."
I saw one take a garage off of two cars without moving or even damaging the cars. I saw one pick up an SUV and place it unharmed in a reasonable parking place four miles away. I've seen multiple tornadoes decide to fuck this house in particular in a dense suburban area. I've seen a tornado appear out of a blue sky. One picked up my grandparents garage and moved it six inches to the right and the next year a different tornado put it back. Neither took a shingle off the thing. They are literally just mischief.
