“In the end, hope, wrested from reality by negating it, is the only form in which truth appears. Without hope, the idea of truth would be scarcely even thinkable, and it is the cardinal untruth, having recognized existence to be bad, to present it as truth simply because it has been recognized.”
— Theodor W. Adorno, Minima Moralia, 61

i'm being murdered! i'm being murdered! I'M BEING MURRRRDERERREEEED! *door opens* oh hi
As a former humanities student, I feel it is my duty to reblog this one.
Some misc. Wyll facts I collected while browsing his dialogue files like a madman
If Wyll dies and you ask his corpse what is ultimate goal is, his response is "Freedom from Mizora".
Wyll's mother died when he was born. Growing up, he was so close with his father that he never felt like he needed anyone else, but as an adult, he's questioned what it might have been like had she lived.
Wyll does not consider himself a man of faith - in fact, he resents "the so-called good gods for tolerating the curelty of the evil" - but rather believes "the faith that matters is that which you hold in yourself, in the ones that most matter to you."
More than one devnote reveals Wyll intentionally tries to downplay his emotions. Example: "Not too sad outwardly even though he is."
Wyll's father trained him how to use a rapier, sword, and bow.
Wyll uses "a light spritz from a vial of jasmine dust" as perfume.
Wyll considered dukes to be hypocritcal for their diplomacy with bad people.
When Wyll was a young boy, he was smitten by Stelmane.
When Wyll was eight, he snuck into the Counting House to see if the rumours of mythical treasure it held were true. The guard spotted him and took him straight back to his father.
When Wyll was fourteen, he had his first alcoholic beverage, and got so tipsy from wine that he puked in Dillard Portyr's bushes.
Wyll had his first kiss in The Blushing Mermaid when he was fifteen.
Wyll claims he's spent some time in the Underdark in his adventures as the Blade.
Wyll says he's killed a vampire-spawn before, when Player!Astarion confesses he's one himself.
Wyll claims his toughest kill was a minotaur, and one of his scars is from the battle.
Seven years prior to the game, he made his pact with Mizora to defeat the Cult of the Dragon, and was disowned and exiled from Baldur's Gate by his father. He was seventeen at the time.
Five years prior to the game, he took on the mantle of the Blade of Frontiers, after rescuing a child from a band of goblin attackers near the Cloakwood.
Karlach calls Wyll her best friend.
I have fallen deeply back into Obey Me and, as such, have also fallen into a thesis level theory about what’s happening in Nightbringer (and who Nightbringer actually is and why). Would anyone be interested in that if I were to type it up?
Ferelden travel: distances and times
Methodology at the bottom if you care about that sort of thing or want to argue.
End point -> End point -> real travel time (in days unless noted)
South Reach -> Dalish Camp -> 5.6
South Reach -> Lothering -> 5.1
Denerim -> Vigil’s Keep -> 3.4
Denerim -> South Reach -> 5.6
Denerim -> Dragon’s Peak -> 1.7
Highever -> West Hill -> 4.9
Lake Calenhad Docks -> West Hill -> 2.8
Lake Calenhad Docks -> Gherlen’s Pass -> 2.8
Lake Calenhad Docks -> Lothering -> 9.0
Ruins -> Heart of the Forest -> 4.5
Heart of the Forest -> Dalish Camp -> 4.2
Gwaren -> Dalish Camp -> 11.0
Orzammar -> Gherlen’s Pass -> 3.7 (Also distance from Orzammar to Ortan Thaig and Aeducan Thaig via Caridin’s Cross)
Lothering -> Ostagar -> 3.6Â (Also distance from beginning to end of Dead Trenches)
Flemeth’s Hut -> Ostagar -> 2.1 to get there but only 1.5 to get back with Morrigan’s help (Also distance from beginning to end of Anvil of the Void)
Redcliffe Village -> Lothering -> 5.6
Redcliffe Village -> Gherlen’s Pass -> 5.4 (Also distance from beginning to end of Ortan Thaig and Aeducan Thaig)
Highever -> Vigil’s Keep -> 5.6
Amaranthine -> Vigil’s Keep -> 1.7
Haven -> Rainesfere/Sulcher’s Pass -> 4.5
Redcliffe Village -> Rainesfere/Sulcher’s Pass -> 1.7
Haven -> Temple -> 5.9
Honnleath -> Temple -> 7.6
Honnleath -> Redcliffe Village -> 5.6
Lake Calenhad Docks -> Kinloch Hold-> 3 hours by rowboat
Redcliffe Castle -> Kinloch Hold -> 5 hours by sailboat
Redcliffe Village -> Redcliffe Castle -> the map makes no sense here, so let’s call it an hour’s walk.  Isolde certainly didn’t run 22.5 miles in that outfit.Â

Some aggregate distances:
Highever -> Ostagar -> 20.3 through West Hill, Calenhad Docks, Lothering
Denerim -> Haven -> 23.9 via West Road through Redcliffe, Rainesfere, Sulcher’s Pass
Denerim -> Redcliffe -> 16.3
Flemeth’s Hut -> Lothering -> 5.7
Redcliffe Castle -> Haven -> 6.2
Redcliffe -> Denerim -> 4.5 forced march via West Road

Methodology: using the map and scale included in the RPG guide, I came up with inch measurements for the distances on provided roads or, where roads aren’t shown (like to and from Haven and Honnleath) where it would seem natural to travel, like along a river. Deep Roads calculations were taken mostly based on the fact that in The Stolen Throne and The Calling the entrance Maric and co. use is somewhere not too far from West Hill and they come across Ortan Thaig after a few days, so it’s not like all those abandoned thaigs are neatly nestled under Orzammar.  Once I had scaled the Ortan Thaig map to fit that, I scaled the others appropriately, figured out how they’d all line up, and went from there.
I tried to get really ambitious and calculate Mercator projection compensation (where the map gets more distorted longitudinally the closer you get to the poles) but that’s a whole lot of math that I haven’t used in like twenty years so, no, that didn’t work out.
From that I calculated the distance in miles (D).
I then assigned a difficulty rating (X) from 1.0 to 2.0: the higher the number, the more difficult the travel. Â Up to Haven? Â 2.0. Â Along the West Road between Denerim and South Reach? Â 1.0.
Travel time (V) is calculated by using accounts from various population migrations in Europe and North America (not forced/death marches) where most people traveled on foot over varied terrain and averaged 20 miles per day.  Forced marches on roads go at about 70-75 miles per day, cross-country forced marches go at about 55-60 miles per day.
Sailboats travel at approximately 16 mph, rowboats at approximately 2 mph with an experienced rower, and horses at about 30 miles per day over long distances.
So the formula works out like this: (D/V) * X = real travel time (in days).
You may want to vary these calculations for bad weather by adding an additional difficulty multiplier.  For example, I assume there will not be snow along the road from Ostagar to Lothering.  I also assume there’s snow, but not a blizzard, in the Frostbacks.
I’m only providing end points and real travel times in this post because I’ll be damned if I can figure out how to get tumblr to manage a table without shitting the bed.  I’ll screencap my spreadsheet and post my whacked-out lined-up maps of the Brecilian Forest and Deep Roads later (maybe not today; I have miles to go before I sleep) and add them to this post or a new one that will link back to this one.
Here’s the link to the post with the spreadsheet and maps of the Deep Roads and Brecilian Forest.
Dragon Age Character Ages Masterlist
Because it’s about damn time I just put everything in a single post that’s easy to refer to. I will add to this as more characters ever come up!
I don’t see the point in just plain listing things, so I’ve included all the math and reasoning behind these.Â
Companions are grouped by games, with other characters at the end.

What is Mireille’s favorite thing about Napoleon?
Emotionally, she loves his heart. He's so forthright and so open. So tender and caring. He honestly wants to leave the world a better place. He wants to believe in people.
Physically, other than all of him, she's actually strangely attracted to and fascinated with his wrists. Well, and his forearms. And biceps. A lot. But there's something almost magical in the way his wrist moves when he's turning his hand over, or when he twines his fingers with hers. Plus, it's a little sensitive and ticklish, and she takes a particular glee in dancing her fingers over the inside of his wrist just so when she takes his arm and feeling his fingers flex in response.
Assuming you’ve been able to, what was your favorite moment of or your favorite thing about replaying the ME trilogy with Amanda?
I actually haven't replayed with her! Or anyone... I made the choice, personally, not to get LE. That hasn't stopped me wanting to pick up and replay through my copy of 1 at the very least, but I just haven't had the time it feels like.
I do miss her, though. And I do plan on rewriting her story from the start and fixing it. I will get there. Hopefully within the next few months!
Shoot me prompts or questions about characters, y’all (to include: headcanon requests for both original or canon characters, requests for info/about that character, whatever). Here’s a handy list of my main games and characters right now - and I’m not gonna lie to you, questions/prompts about either Ikemen series would make my life: Fandoms and characters/pairings: Mass Effect - Amanda Shepard (+Kaidan Alenko); Devin Shepard (+Steve Cortez) Dragon Age - Sereda Aeducan (+Alistair Theirin); Makenna Hawke (+Fenris; also them +Sebastian Vael); Toran Cadash (+Blackwall); Magdalene Trevelyan (+Cullen Rutherford) Ikemen Vampire - Mireille (+Napoleon Bonaparte); Wren (+Theodorus VanGogh); Maguerite (+Le Comte de Saint-Germain) Ikemen Prince - Robin (+Leon Dompteur); Tessa (+Jin Grandet)
So this one character from this one phone game who has literally no right has decided he deserves a chunk of my brainspace. I refuse to fic anything for him (yet), but damn it if I haven’t started putting together a playlist.
There are times I really miss being in an active fandom experience. Mostly because I miss the energy it creates when everyone in the room (whether physical or metaphorical) is hyped for the same thing. I miss being able to find people who loved my favorite, overlooked characters, too, and giggling and swooning and theorizing together. I don’t know if I have much point other than that, but I miss it. Yeah, Discord (which I do use), but fandom over Discord isn’t...quite the same? this is what getting old feels like isn’t it
